Spike babysitting Dawn

I have always found it funny that the mean vampire, the slayer of slayers, William the Bloody, was babysitting the Slayer's little sister. What if his old gang found out about it? How would Angelus react to that? What would Drusilla say? Good heart or a pathetic vampire?

No vampire would have though of him as having a good heart, at least not one without a soul.

As for the old gang, I got the impression that Darla was never particularly fond of or impressed by Spike, so I'm sure she would have just rolled her eyes as usual when dealing with something he had done. Angelus probably would have made several nasty comments about how pathetic he had become. Drusilla would have been appauled and would have made it clear that she wasn't going to have anything to do with such a sissy vampire. Didn't Dru grow tired of Spike when he lost some of his evil edge?

Coming right down to the basics, however, is babysitting Dawn much different from nursing and protecting Dru the way that he did in Season 2, only, of course, without the sexual element. It's been said time and time again, Spike is NOT your typical vampire. Even when he was evil, he was compassionate and protective of someone who he cared about. Can you imagine Angelus taking care of Dru if he had been in Spike's place? Granted, Spike used to eat little girls like Dawn, but, as of Seasons 5 and 6, He considered her, and her mother, as friends, and I have no doubt that he would have protected either or both of them if the need arose. And no, I do NOT believe that he would have done it out of fear of, or lustful feelings for, Buffy. His affection for Dawn was something completely separate from anything that he felt for Buffy.

I had to smile there because in my eyes Spike was the only guy who treated Dawn like teenager, not like a baby. He listened to her oppinion and the things she said. So in my eyes Dawn liked him and he liked her. In a special Teenager-Vampire friendship! I don't think that Spike care what other vampires might say, I mean he works together ith the slayer, what could be worse for a vampire?
