Spike belonged in Angel from the start

if you watch season 5, you can see the Chemistry between him & Angel, & well, he seems to belong there, his existence in Btvs was almost worthless. not worthless but he was better in Ats.

But I liked him more in Btvs. I thought that it really developed his character. I love Spangel and all, but whenever he's with Angel they both start acting like annoying little kids. :biggrin3:

I much preferred him in BtVS. And I agree - he has chemistry with everyone he's on screen with (even the door in Dead Things 😛).

I don't think he'd have got such an amazing character journey if he'd been in AtS from the start.

And he's such an integral part of BtVS for me, that I can't imagine it without him.

I thought he was sorta out of place in Ats?, i loved Spangel but they did act like little kids nipping at each other all the time.
Nah i preferred him in Btvs.

To me he needed to be on Buffy to see his character best. I enjoyed him all Angel but if he was on there it would have messed up the dynamic to me in those other seasons. I love Spike and Angel together though.

they gave the show a great deal of comic relief, but he did get a good deal of character development in Btvs, but it got old, somewhere in Buffy S7 it got boring. in Angel I find that the characters were more close to him, more his type, he never really connected with anyone in Btvs except for Buffy. & I liked how him & Angel always acted like they hate each other, they were like best friends, but aren't willing to admit it. i laughed my a** off when they were arguing & screaming at each other, then Wesley asked them what was it about, they said it was about an astronaut vs Caveman lmao.

The best case scenario would have been to have Spike move over to Angel halfway through Buffy's season 6 and only going back to Buffy for Chosen. This would have saved us from Spuffy: The Ike and Tina Days and he'd be fleshed out more with a cast he had a bit more chemistry with. Marsters said he preferred the working environment on Angel over Buffy (probably because the main cast were closer to his age) so c'est la vie - what could have been. 😀

Well, as we say, James could have chemistry with a brick if he wanted too. The man just has chemistry with everyone.

My issues with Spike in Season 5 are many, and despite, I love watching him and Angel interact. Hello Sexual Tension! 😉

I agree that the interaction between Angel and Spike in Season 5 was great, but I think that the reason for that was the way that Spike developed on "Buffy," especially in Season 5 through 7. He could never have interacted with Angel during that time because he was still intimidated and dominated by who he saw as a more powerful vampire. It took three years of development and, eventually, trust, support, encouragement, and, whether you choose to interpret it as the friendship, romance, something in between, or something totally unique, love given to him by Buffy, AND his regaining his soul (which would never have happened on Angel's show) to make him the character that he was in Season 5. Without that development, he would never have stood up to Angel the way that he did, would never have refused to take any of his B S, and would never have discovered that he was perfectly capable of holding his own, or even beat Angel, in a physical conflict.

Up until Season 5, Angel had more or less still seen in Spike the "Willie" that Dru had made. Something beneath him and even somewhat comical. Without Spike's time with Buffy, without the things that he learned from her, he would still have been that "Willie," though maybe a bit more formidable. As it was, in that final season, he was able to face Angel as an equal, not someone to be ignored and contemptuous of. The two could never be friends, but at least, because of the man who Buffy helped Spike to become, they could share a mutual respect.

I think he belonged on BTV..but he should have been in more episodes of ATV before season 5

Spike was an integral part of the Buffy cast when he returned in season 4 to i disagree that he belonged in Angel from the start. Like White Avenger said the reason Spike worked so well in Angel was how his character had developed in Buffy.

I also don't see how Spike would have fitted in LA from the beginning. I couldn't see him working with the AI in the hotel environment, he was much better suited in Buffy where he could play the outcast.

Furthermore i would have missed his interaction with Sarah who would have had no love interest without Spike in the later seasons.

I would say Spike was best as an unwilling ally in season four. He really shined in that season, as he worked with the Scooby Gang yet continuously mocked them and rooted for them to die. Definitely the highlight of a season of Buffy that otherwise wasn't quite up to the standard that had been set by the former two.

Spike was best a) alive (or y'know, undead) and b) on screen.

I love him so much, I don't really care where he is. That said, he couldn't have been the Spike in S5 without his development on Buffy, but AtS did give him a chance to expand more, since he was away from Buffy and had to make decisions based on his morals and not hers.

I think that he was the most likeable as a villain, but the most lovable as the "Tragic Hero" in the later seasons of Btvs. And then on Angel he was just... There. The irritating little brother. Years of development gone... :biggrin3:
