I know Anya was back to being a demon at the beginning of Season 7, but I can't forgive Spike for beating her to keep her from saying he had a soul. I love Anya and that was just uncalled for but none of the other characters seemed to think it was a big deal. What are your opinions on this?

I honestly love Anya's reaction "Oh my God --How did you do it?!" Or something like that, don't quote me on it. Spike's reaction caught me off guard, but I can kind of see where he was coming from--He was being tormented, he was kinda previously crazy, and as he said himself that his blood "doesn't exactly flow in the direction of [his] brain" haha.

I don't think anybody else got it, Buffy didn't because she had to guess after his little church episode. Right? I don't know the whole scene at the end was sort of sad, him leaning on the cross.. I was like.. Going to die, please move now. But he was really messed up, and as much as I didn't like his actions, they weren't completely understandable.

The only thing I regretted from that scene was that the writers didnt give us a nice Anya vs. Spike fight. Anya seemed very superpowered in that episode and after he hit her, she looked like she was going to take his head off.

Yeah, that didn't bother me too much. Spike knew that Anya was back to her old demon self, not to mention he wasn't exactly stable at the time. I don't think you can really hold that against him too much.

I think that it was more Anya wailed on Spike. So, I was not overly concerned with Spike hitting Anya. Anya kicked the crap out of him.

When did Anya kick the crap out of him? I don't recall her having the chance to hit him.

What I don't get is there was Spike trying to act like he's changed without anyone knwoing about his soul and he goes all crazy vamp on Anya when she "sees him". Why keep the soul a seacret in the first place? He got it for Buffy, doesn;t she have the right to know about it then?

First, remember he is insane, cute, insane spike 🙂.. Anyway, remember the circumstances--Buffy finds him in the basement while zombies are after Dawn, and he is being tormented by the first-- not really social time--but he did hint at it with the cuts on his chest. "I tried to cut it out" or something. Basically, Spike was out of it, and Buffy was more concerned with Dawn--

Also, now that he had the soul, he must have realized that getting it back wasn't going to change the fact he tried to rape her. She was still jumpy around him, and she had every right to be.. She was "hoping he was a mirage" and he must have been feeling really guilty and crappy about what had happened--"Hey, by the way, I got a soul now! Hip hip hooray!" Just doesn't fit..

I also think that this explains a lot of what he was feeling.
It's from "Beneath you" Around the time where Spike and Buffy investigate the place where the dog was eaten. (RIP puppy)

Look, this... us working together"”it's not a way for us to get back together, if that's what you want.

SPIKE
It's not. Look, I can't blame you for being all skittish.

BUFFY
Skittish? That's not a word I would use for it. You tried to rape me. I don't have the words.

SPIKE
Neither do I. I can't say sorry. Can't use forgive me. All I can say is: Buffy, I've changed.

BUFFY
I believe you.

SPIKE
Well, that's something.

BUFFY
I just don't know what you've changed into. You come back to town. You make with the big surprises. Twice. I don't know what your game is, Spike, but I know there's something you're not telling me.

SPIKE
You're right. There is. (stands) But we're not best friends anymore, so too bad for me. I'm not sharing. We've been through things. The end of the world and back. I can be useful 'cause, honestly, I've got nothing better to do. Make use of me if you want. (gesturing to the sidewalk)And there's nothing here. Just a bit of slime. Mounds of displaced dirt and such. Whatever our beastie is, he's gone.

all in all, i think that this extra attention give to spike hitting anya is completely unnecessary and seems to be blowing things out of proportion (for the same reason previously mentioned).

I really didnt think to much of it. But i do think thats when Buffy started relizing that Spike was different some how.

My opinion is that Spike came really close to being tore to pieces, that's what I think. Trying to to say that Anya was some helpless victim here is totally incorrect. After he hit her she backhanded him clear across the room for crying outloud! : punch: I'm not even sure if he actually hurt her in any way at all, she seemed to shrug off his attack with no difficulty.

It never bothered me because Anya was a demon at that point a demon who was actively hurting people. No matter the reason for the attack he did nothing wrong.

As for Spike not annoucing it from the roof tops that he had a soul. It was a private matter, the only person who had the right to announce it was him. His reasons were his own and his only. The following is not exactly the best analogy, but it serves my purpose. Say you are gay and you are not ready to tell the people close to you and someone just by looking at your "aura" could tell you were gay and was about to announce it you would not want it to get out. It was the same for Spike except his didn't have any possibility for people hating him because he had a soul.

But I wouldnt hit them, just because Anya noticed something that Spike didnt want anyone to see doesnt mean he has the right to hit her even though I loved seeing her hitting him. And how was she suppose to know that he didnt want anything to be said, its still a whole freedom of speech thing going on there which just doesnt give Spike the right to hit her to shut her up.

But Spike got lucky that Anya was stopped from attacking him.

But you have to remember, this is Spike. For the last hundred years he's solved his problems by killing or beating the hell out of them. Soul or no soul, that's the only way he knows.

She is a demon and freedom of speech only applies to humans. She has no Constitutional Rights as a vengence demon.

Yeah right.

it was a private matter..you wouldn't just announce your sex life..to anyone..plus I'm sure xander would have made some smart remark..and spike would have ran off crying..
