Spike In Season 8

If Spike had not moved over to "Angel" after Season 7, what do you think he would be doing in Season 8? This is not intended to be a Spuffy yea of nay question, but rather, what would he be doing to help with Buffy's new Slayer army? Or would he be another "rogue demon hunter," operating independently of Buffy and her girls?

As much of an asset as I believe that he would be to Buffy in training the young Slayers, and as much as I want them to be together, I honestly believe that Spike has earned his chance to be something more than Buffy's sidekick. I could see him leading and training his own elite squad of Slayers (more like the Slayer version of the Navy Seals than the Spikettes in "After The Fall") taking on the missions too dangerous for the average Slayer squad, only checking in with Buffy for an occasional guest appearance.
 
If Spike hadn't shown up in Angel he'd still be dead. If you're talking about "what if" Chosen was also rewritten, Spike would obviously be offered the option of leading his own squad since Andrew is a Watcher/Squad Leader. Spike's arguably the world's third greatest expert on Slayers (after Giles & Ghost Wes). He may or may not know more about them than Buffy (in S5 she went to him for answers about Slayers) and he definitely knows more than Faith.

Personally, I agree with James Marsters and think that Spike was more crucial in Los Angeles in the day-to-day. If you've been following After the Fall you'll see that Spike operated as
Los Angeles' primary Champion
for a while, that's something he never could have done at Buffy's side.

Even though I'd take bets that Spike would demolish any Slayer aside from Buffy head-to-head including Satsu and Kennedy (Faith is probably stronger than Spike, but I think he'd probably win in a fight to the death), how much could Spike contribute within the new Watcher's Council outside of moral support? I mean Spike's tough, but among thousands of Slayers how much help is he really going to be?

In LA on the other hand, he's roughly on par with Angel and tougher than Connor, Groo and Gunn, so he's pretty darn valuable there. Not to mention the fact that he's pretty much Angel's only friend nowadays since Lorne quite AI, Wes is ghostly/dead, Gunn's out of commission, Cordy's ghostly, and Illyria's crazier than usual.

As far as fighting skill goes, Spike is the only opponent Buffy ever faced who she was never able to decisively beat. In fact, Spike (and I just know i'll get some argument about this) actually was at the point of beating her in "School Hard" before the intervention of Joyce and her fire axe. As for Faith, despite how long she's been a Slayer, her personal experience (not the Slayer "quickening" that a Potential gets when she is called) is rather limited due to coma and prison time.

And I seriously doubt that Spike would ever be willing to cooperate with the Watchers' Council, even if one still existed. (Remember what Giles told Faith in the "No Future For You" arc? "For all intents and purposes, I AM the Watchers' Council. Giles and Spike are even less mixey than Spike and Angel. His value to Buffy would be the same as it was in Season 7 with the Potentials: sharing his experience in demon hunting and honing their fighting skills.

That pretty much what I always imagined too. There would be some good stories in that and also, of course, some visits back to HQ...

Plus, he wouldn't even have to leave IDW to do it. He could have his own series there (well, certainly he could still drop by Dark Horse for a visit occasionally, and the former Sunnydale crew could visit him) He's already got a pretty good team set up with the LA Slayers supplemented by Connor and the Spikettes, and, of course, Illyria. I know I said originally that he should have a crew of just elite Slayers, but if he's got all of these great fighters available anyway, why not use them?
 
I don't know if anyone has read buffy #23: Predators and Prey yet, but in my opinion, Spike would be just perfect to bring in to take on that hag Simone.

Not entirely true. Remember "The Harsh Light Of Day"? Buffy staked Spike in that episode but the only reason he didn't dust is because of the Gem of Amarrah (spelling). Spike was one of Buffy's toughest opponents, but if he truly could take her then why didn't he years ago? Even in "Halloween" (s2), when Buffy was merely in her second year of slaying, Spike still could not best her. Otherwise he wouldn't have sent one of his MANY vampire lackeys to film Buffy in action, so he could study her skill(s) to aid him in combat against her.

Also, who knows if Spike would've actually BEAT Buffy in "School Hard"? Sure, Joyce intervened before he could make his final blow but who's to say that Buffy wouldn't have caught the barb in the clench of her palms like she did the sword in Becoming pt. 2? You never know.

I suppose Buffy didn't kill him in season 2 because he always had this excess support and didn't creep alone in the cemetary like other vamps. In season 3, 4, and 5, she spared him because he was convenient.

Okay, I'll rephrase. Te's the only Big Bad who's gone up against Buffy who didn't eventually end up (figuratively) pushing up daisies with the exception, possibly, of the First Evil. I'm discounting Angel here, including Angelus.

If joyce didnt intervene it would've been slayer number 3 for spike.
Role-wise? I think that he would off be doing something, being independent of Buffy so that Joss could show the audience that he isn't just her sidekick. But maybe that's just my opinion.
 
I'm not sure what Spike's role would be. I'd say he'd get a squad of slayers for himself but I'm not sure how Xander would necessarily feel about that, or if the other slayers would even be comfortable following a vampire.

If he did get a squad though it'd have to be somewhere away from Buffy. She's at main operations at the Scotland base and Xander's squad leader there so there'd be no reason for Spike to have a squad there also. He'd have to be leading one in some other part of the world.

I do think, that if there had been plans about Spike being in season 8, the Chosen finale wouldn't have had the "I love you, no you don't yadayada" thing.

If there had been anyway of Spike coming with Buffy out of the Hellmouth, and on the bus, I do think their relationship would have been restored, and maybe deepened. Although..Spike would have a problem getting on the bus. Remember how the sun was up? And with all the running...Spike would have turned into a nice pile o dust long before Buffy began her roof jumping
 
I think he would probably have his own squad of slayers. He would do a good job, though he probably wouldn't want to be far from Buffy because let's face it, he loves her. Also whether you're a Spuffy or not she cared for him. They probably wouldn't have a relationship, but who knows. I think it would have been awesome though. Dark Horse has appologized for selling the Angel characters and I'm glad they did because that pisses me off! It would be nice to have them crossover more. First it's different networks and now it's different comic books. Jesus man, the universe is against us.

God, I so agree.
I HATE Simone. I understand Buffy's reasoning, kinda, but I really want someone to go and shove a stake up her ass, or down her annoying throat, either way, i'm not fussed. 🙂

And Spike would be the perfect person for that! He's a very no nonsense kinda guy, wouldn't have let the Simone situation get as far out of hand as it has.

That's one Slayer Number 3 i'd willingly hand over to Spike...
