I just re-watched this episode, and as odd as it may sound, I think this was James Marsters at his absolute best. He's not even one of the focuses of the episode, that goes to Caleb, Faith and Buffy, but I really thought the way he was used made it one of the most impactful episodes of the season.

It's kind of subtle, but I really noticed it this time. The interactions with Faith really help reintroduce her and give her a way to connect back with the Scoobies. And when they storm the vineyard at the end, and Caleb first starts talking with Buffy and Spike, the look that he gives Caleb is really cool. It's the same sort of thing a few minutes later when Caleb grabs Xander and carves out his eye.

I mean, a big part of that episode is getting Caleb over as this new top villain. Now, he does a lot in to make that happen on his own, but the way that Spike reacts to him helped that tremendously I thought. Here's this incredibly tough vampire, someone who's probably second only to Buffy after S3 in terms of power, who's never taken crap from anyone, and he's totally shaken up by Caleb. I found that really interesting, re-watching it.
