Just got word on the Spike miniseries. Does this mean that Spike will no longer be in S9, or will he be swtiching back and forth between the two series?

I love the idea of Spike having his own story, but not if it's at the expense of the continued development of his and Buffy's relationship, which is pretty much my main interest at this point.

Sigh.
 
I seriously doubt that Spike will be permanently leaving "Buffy." He's to integral, whether the Bangels like it or not, to the story line at this point. He might be gone for 2 or 3 issues, 4 at the most, and I have a sneaking suspicion that, when he DOES return, it's going to be with some fantastic news. (Avenger Visions aren't QUITE as accurate as Slayer Dreams, but they're pretty close, and I've had a positive DANDY))

The only integral part of Buffy's story is Buffy. Everyone else can be/is replacable. Willow's gone, Xander and Dawn are MIA and the story goes on. Spike won't be any different.
I just went with the time of 5 issues while the mini-series is published - but maybe it will not be until after the Willow mini series.

I am glad that he is getting a mini-series and from the descriptions that we are hearing in interviews and issues - it sounds like the perfect time for him to move on his own. Buffy can never really accept being in a mature and long lasting love relationship with him until she can integrate both her Slayer Life and Buffy/Woman. I see her despair and emotional need for this "normal life" that she keeps longing for very much connected to the events of the Twilight disaster and the death of Giles. Of course she would be desperate to change her life away from all the misery that she has lived as a Slayer and The Chosen One. And irrespective of how much Spike has changed and always fights beside her and tries to help her, IMO, she sees him as symbolic of all the dark places and dark times of her Sunnydale history, Twilight events and their own history. I think that is why she used such harsh words about him "Say something stupid. Or needy. Or creepy. Anything to make me forget..." and then follows this with "But just turns out it's just more bizarre slayer crap..." as the contrast to everything she thought was real and Buffy taking charge of her life and being an adult.

Andrew kidnapped her and invaded her life and then, IMO, pushed her into an even more vulnerable position from her having lived through the false pregnancy. Buffy was already in that "free fall" about her self-identity and life, and she thought that she had made a huge step forward by having made the difficult choice of having an abortion. Andrew took all that away from her and beat her down all over again.

This BBot2 story to me is a repeat of the same "doing it for the greater good" and "doing it for your own good." Angel, IMO, should have told Buffy about the information he was getting from Whistler, and Andrew should have told her about his plan. She had every right to have both these men tell her what the hell was going on and instead of taking her life in their hands, Buffy should have made the decisions about her life. kudos to Jeanty for using that image of Marvin Gaye who wrote "What's Going On."

Interesting read about their motives. It's good that Scott explained himself about why they chose to give him his own mini.

OK, that makes me feel a little bit better about a Spike series. 🙂 I wasn't too excited about it when I first read about it.
