i think spike was totally wrong in the end of touched. i think he just said buffy didn't love him because he wanted her to go on with her life and not grieve over him he wanted her to be happy and not sad. and i so loved it when buffy told him she loved him

here here!!!!!!!!!!! a round of applause.

(except are you maybe talking about the "I love you" and "no you don't" at the end of Chosen, not Touched?)

I believe that he said that just so that she could move on and start a new life. He didn't want her to be upset about his death.

yeah, i like when she told him she loved him. I get goosebumps

I dont i think that what Spike said is true 'No, you dont'.....i think she loved him in away she loves her friends..i dont think she was *in* love with him i think she loved him...get ma drift...anyway thats my feeling towards it anyway...and can i just say...when she killed Angel she was alot more upset...and had to move away i thought that in the end of Chosen after he died she just didnt seem that bothered...like she wasnt cryin or anything...she actually smiled..now if the person i loved died i dont think id be smiling....

I think that Buffy loved Spike sorta the way she loves her friends, but maybe a bit more. Sure, she didn't seem so bothered by Spike's death as she was of Angel's death, but Spike's death was more heroic than Angel's in Season 2. Spike wanted to die, whereas Buffy killed Angel while his eyes were closed. I think it bothered Buffy more that SHE, herself, had to kill Angel in order to save the world. Buffy wanted Spike to come along with her, but he refused. He knew what he was doing was the right thing and she knew that he knew (wow, that got a little confusing) so everything was alright. Plus, perhaps she knew ahead of time that Spike signed a contract to do the whole season of Angel so that must mean that he comes back, and she'll be able to see him when she's not working on movies and such.

I'm hoping that I don't get killed for saying this, but I totally agree with ~*Angel's_Girl*~ and Little William. Buffy cared about Spike, and she loved him. Maybe more than she loved some of her other friends, but she didn't LOVE him. To her, Spike was a safe place to be. She didn't know how she felt about him, but he was always there for her no matter what. She told him she loved him at the end because she knew it was what would make him happiest.

In a question and answer session with James Marsters this month he said this when asked about Spike denying buffy's love for him.

"That's the truth. That's the truth. He shows his manhood by saying that. Uh, I thought that what the final episode did very well was uh, admit that Buffy really is in love with Angel. And that- that the sexual relationship she had with Spike was unhealthy, that it was unwise, it was, you know, fun to watch, but it wasn't good for Buffy. And um, um, and that, Buffy was discovering a level of respect newly for spike that she hadn't felt before and as a friend she wanted to, she knew that he loved her and she wanted to give him something cuz he's about to die, and he shows his strength by saying well no, you know, that's very kind for you to say, but that's not true. And um, I'm comfortable with that, I don't need to be the one, you know, I don't need to be Buffy's one, I think- I think that would have been real strange in, thematically it would have been really difficult. Uh, Spike is evil. You know, they never played Spike as the boyfriend you really wanna have. I'm getting laughs, some of you have had these guys. And, and you know, I- I kinda was having a problem with the character because, you know, the truth in life is, if a guy is a jerk to the other- to the rest of the world, he's gonna be a jerk to his girl too, or his lady too. Yeah. Nice guys rule! And the problem with Spike was, is that we kept doing stuff that was supposed to offend you guys and you didn't care! That's- that's why it was such a dramatic kind of instance of Spike being a monster, that's why they had to th- throw in that bathroom scene at the end of season six, because they- They had me going after victims, cattleprodding Buffy to show my love? Hello! So, you know I- I- I uh, sorta get uncomfortable because people still wanted Buffy and- and- and Spike to be together"

and I totally agree with that.

I think buffy smiled because she was proud of him for sacrificing himself? I think she really did love him she just didn't want to admit it to herself

omg i cried sooo much...

i think buffy did love him so much it was hurting her bad but i dont think she was In Love with him....like i love my ex so much but im In Love with my current bf...does that make any sence?

I agree with Angels Girl and PadmeGinny. I think Buffy only told Spike she loved him to comfort him, kind of like 'your gonna die and this is all i can give you' thing. Maybe she felt a little guilty too because Spike had given her so much and she had just used him coz she needed someone there, so she told him she loved him to make up for that. Plus she gave him the amulet to wear, so technically it's her faulty he was in that position in the first place.

I think she loves him she isn't IN love with him but she loved him, as more then a friend. it was still great she said it, lots of teary eyed peoples

When she killed Angel she was also alot younger. She hadn't sacrificed as much yet. By the time Spike died she had lost her mother, another love, her own life and so on. Not to mention she didn't have to be the one to kill Spike. It really isn't fair to compare her reaction to Angels "death" to Spikes. And she left town because her mother told her not to come back if she walked out the door. I will admit it is doubtful that they will ever get Spike and Buffy together in the end but that doesn't mean she was never in love with him. I watched the last few episodes of season seven more carefully and I am more sure than ever that reguardless of how she feels for Angel or who she ends up with that he will always have a piece of her heart more than a friend would. Haven't any of you ever been in love with two people?

I think (as a few people said) Buffy loves him, but she wasn't IN love with him. She'll always be IN love with Angel (I really think he's her soulmate), but she can *love* more than one person; ie, she loves Xander. In Spike's case, it's a really storng love, because he was there for her (ie, when she felt she was in hell after coming back, Touched when everyone else had seemingly deserted her). She told him she loved him because it was the truth. Spike is genuinely IN love with Buffy, but I think he was perceptive enough to pick up on her feelings...his "No, you don't" was probably a combination of that, and his wanting to get
Buffy the hell out of the Hellmouth, since it was kind of in the process of collapsing at the time.

God, did I just psychoalalyze Buffy and Spike? Probably cause I jsut wrote a fic hooking the two of them up for the first time in my life...LOL.

i guess from what other people have said i agree w/ what most of u are saying. she wasn't IN love w/ him but he did love him as a friend and maybe something more
