Is it just me, or are people sometime blowing this thing up bigger then it is. Cause in my opinion it was a rather small thing. Something I wouldn't mention when talking about Spike or Spuffy in general. What do you think? Was this really important?

I think it was somewhat important, it was a big thing. Sure he wasnt all their but it was still wrong to do, he almost physically forced Buffy to have sex with him and he wouldve succeeded if Buffy hadnt stopped him. Sure now basically 2 years later it isnt that big of a thing for the charecters since Spike has a soul now.

I totaly agree with you. I maen all my friends are seeing it for there first time and they thing it is a huge deal. I think it is not a big deal but not a small deal ya know! LOL
Willow: Happy hunting Buffy: Wish me monsters

It's a huge deal, but not as huge as the writers had hoped it to be. Spike had gone insane over Buffy and a part of him didn't understand why she didn't love him the way he loved her. He wasn't being evil, he was insane. And in his mind, for a good reason. It seems like a huge deal because you don't always forgive and forget after being raped.

did anyone else hear spike make a weird noise when he got on top of buffy? it sounded like a wrrring noise

I had the way some Spike lovers try and gloss it over and pretend it wasnt rape. Yes shes said "get off me" before and not meant it but you could hear the panic in her voice. Well acted for Sarah and James.

I feel that anything having to do with rape is a huge deal...but I also agree that Spike wasn't all there. I think he got played with one time too many...not that it was Buffy's fault at all but I believe he was totally out of his mind too...after everything he tried to do/be for her I can't believe that he would have done something like that in his right mind...he was desperate, crazy, in denial and oh so very WRONG...

I undertand his emotional condition, but it was a huge thing for me-rape or an atempt should always be displayed in a negative way....

I personally don't even see it as an attempted rape, too big a word for it, they had a bit of a wrestle, but if he would have gotten the upper hand, I don't believe he would've really raped her. I also believe that the writers wanted it to be a bigger deal then it turned out ot be.

not to sound mean but then you mustve seen a different scene from the rest of us because its clear what Spike was trying to do to her, you can even tell by the script.
BUFFY: (calmer) I have feelings for you. I do. But it's not love. I could never trust you enough for it to be love.
SPIKE: (laughing) Trust is for old marrieds, Buffy. (Buffy rolling her eyes) Great love is wild ... and passionate and dangerous. It burns and consumes.
BUFFY: Until there's nothing left. Love like that doesn't last.
SPIKE: (pacing) I know you feel like I do. You don't have to hide it anymore.
BUFFY: (rolling her eyes) Spike, please stop this.
SPIKE: (whispers) Let yourself feel it.

He moves forward, puts his hands on her waist, pulls her toward him. She resists.

BUFFY: No....
SPIKE: You love me.
BUFFY: Ow, no, stop it.

They struggle, Spike trying to kiss and grope Buffy, Buffy trying to push him away. Sound of fabric ripping. Spike's hand is inside Buffy's robe.

BUFFY: Spike, no - ow - what are you do-

She loses her balance and falls backward toward the tub. Her hand grabs the shower curtain for balance, but it rips off the shower rod and Buffy falls down, hitting her back against the side of the tub.

BUFFY: (yelling) Ow!

She falls to the floor beside the tub, groaning in pain. Spike gets on top of her, holding her down. He grabs her face and tries to kiss her as she continues trying to fight him off.

SPIKE: Let it go. Let yourself love me.

He continues saying similar things as Buffy continues saying "no" and "stop" and "ow." Spike pulls at her clothing.

Buffy gets onto her stomach and tries to pull herself toward the door, but Spike is on top of her, holding her down, pulling her arms away from the door as she continues yelling and protesting.
Open on the same scene, overhead shot of Spike straddling Buffy on the bathroom floor. Buffy continues struggling.

BUFFY: (yelling) No, stop it!
SPIKE: I know you felt it ... when I was inside you...

Close on his hands trying to open her robe. Sound of fabric ripping.

Buffy breaks partly free and starts crawling toward the door again. Spike grabs her ankle and pulls her back toward him, flips her over, pins her hands to the floor.

BUFFY: No, ow, ow! (sobbing) Please, please, Spike, please...
SPIKE: You'll feel it again, Buffy...
BUFFY: Please don't do this...
SPIKE: I'm gonna make you feel it.

He rips the front of her robe open. Buffy screams and struggles against him as he tries to get her robe off.

BUFFY: Stop!!!

She gives him one last shove with her Slayer-strength and Spike goes flying backward, crashing into the sink and the wall. Buffy gets to her feet, holding her robe closed with one hand. It's torn so that one of her shoulders is exposed.

Spike gets up, panting and staring at her.

BUFFY Ask me again why I could never love you.

Spike looks like he's just realizing what he was doing.

SPIKE: Buffy, my god, I didn't-
BUFFY: (angrily) Because I stopped you. (quieter) Something I should have done a long time ago.

A tear runs down Buffy's face. Spike stares at her looking horrified.

My feeling on the matter: Rape IS always a huge deal, as is attempted rape; however, this is not a normal part of spikes personality... He was deranged at the time... But it was still a big deal.

Wow when you read it, that whole feeling of shock comes back just like the first time you watched it. When i saw it was was totally disgusted b/c Spikes my fav character. It took me a few eppys to stop hating him for that. but now that i've seen season seven it doesn't seem like that big of a deal, and i think Buffy got over it a little too quickly. It was never mentioned really after it happened, so that made it feel like it wasn't that big of a deal.

Even as a Spuffy shipper, yes this scene is very heartbreaking. Spike was reeling from his very passionate opinion of their relationship, not dealing with the rejection from Buffy and the guilt from sleeping with Anya.

Watching every other episode though, most of the time Buffy tried to push him off and tell him to stop, and eventually gave in every time, wanting to be with him. So, I could see how he would be confused by her saying no and stop it over and over.

While I do not condone rape or attemted rape, I do see the circumstances in this scene. I feel that if Spike really wanted to do such a harmful thing to Buffy, he would have attacked again even after she had pushed him into the sink. But it was then that he realized exactly what he was doing and apologized. I think both parties were responsible for stopping the situation, Buffy starting it and Spike responding to what he was doing.

And yes, it was never blown up to what the writers wanted it to be, and yes, many Spuffy shippers gloss over the idea, not knowing what to say about the situation. But there are also many things that Bangel shippers gloss over, so it's a no-win situation for both parties.

And I think that with Buffy obviously forgetting about it (since it as never mentined again) and with Spike going to get his soul because of the extreme guilt that he was feeling for what he almost did to person he loved, brought the scene down to a different level.

What have us B/A glossed over? Angel never tried to rape Buffy and if he did I wouldnt gloss over it but I would like to know what we gloss over when it comes to Buffy and Angel(not Angelus) because im always up for a good debate.

Nothing was really said about the rape after that but it was basically shown that Buffy didnt want Spike(sexually) that way anymore and she didnt trust him completely.

SPIKE
Hey, hey, hey! No touching. Am I flesh? Am I flesh to you? Feed on flesh. My flesh. Nothing else. Not a spark. (nods) Oh, fine. Flesh then. Solid through. (starts unzipping his pants) Get it hard; service the girl.

Buffy is disgusted and smacks his hands away from his pants.

BUFFY
Stop it!

Spike reflexively reaches up and grabs her by the throat. Buffy grabs his shoulder and throws him across the room. Spike lands on top of some pews, breaking them into pieces. He sits up a little, propped on his elbows behind him.

SPIKE
Right. Girl doesn't want to be serviced. Because there's no spark. Ain't we in a soddin' engine?

Spike's looking around the room. Buffy walks over to him.

BUFFY
Spike, have you completely lost your mind?

SPIKE
(lucidly) Well, yes. Where've you been all night?

BUFFY
You thought you would just come back here and... be with me?

SPIKE
First time for everything.

BUFFY
This is all you get. I'm listening. Tell me what happened.

SPIKE
I tried to find it, of course.

BUFFY
Find what?

SPIKE
The spark. The missing... the piece that fit. That would make me fit. Because you didn't want... (starts to cry) God, I can't... Not with you looking

Well, considering everything that Angel did bad to Buffy, he was Angelus.

So, to me, looking from that point of view, everything that Spike did to Buffy (trying to kill her many times, starting a relationship with her, attemtping to rape her) was done as Spike, pre-soul. The chip meant nothing, it was merely a thing that was holding Spike back, (until he fell in love with Buffy).

So, If you can gloss over everything Angel did without a soul, then everything Spike did without a soul would qualify as well.

Angel, (as Angel) left Buffy in Sunnydale. Spike (after the soul) never really did anything to hurt her, he only stood up for her.

So, basically, we are in the same boat.

SpikedBuffy is right...and just my oppinion...in season two, Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered...I think Angelus showed up at Buffy's place to do more that just piss her off if you listen to what he says...and Spike DIDN'T have a soul when he was bad...and not that it makes for any better of an excuse but Buffy really screwed with that mans head..."Service the girl" he knew...she screwed him up more that we realized...but he never came closer to hurting her like that after... I don't feel that Angel/Angelus was any different altogether then Spike/Willam...they just made it more apparent with him...
