Do you think the real reason Spike felt sorry for Joyce in "Forever" because of his relationship with his mother (before he vamped her)?

I don't know if it had anything to do with the relationship he had with his own mother. I think that Spike was being completely honest in "Forever". He liked the lady. Even after Joyce discovered Buffy's Slaying world and vampires, she was always kind to Spike.

I think it's pretty apparent throughout the series that there is something different about Spike in relation to other vampires, particularly when he doesn't have his soul. Virtually every single vampire we meet, even the "big" ones like Angelus and Drusilla, have no real consciousness or true feeling towards other at all (Darla might a bit, but only really towards Angelus), except Spike. He was evil, for sure, but he always seemed to be able to develop his feelings towards others much more than any other soulless vampire.

I think Spike's relationship with Joyce was kind of symbolic of that (the way he was with Dawn as well). They always got along, and even before Spike was into Buffy, he was always nice to her. I think he was genuinely sad when she died.
