Spike's soul (spoiler)

Here's the thing: Spike told Fred that he was in limbo or something like it, that he thinks he's going to hell.

What i don't understand about this is that it's been clearly established that when a human is turned, his/her soul is no longer there, that goes where it was supposed to. When he was originally turned, he seemed to be a relatively decent boring, sniveling type of guy who wouldn't hurt a fly. Shouldn't his soul have gone to "heaven" or whatever then?

And if he's being punished for what he did in season seven, isn't that a little open to interpretation as far as "evilness" goes; wasn't he under the thrall of The First?

Just curious as to what your thoughts on this are.

My thoughts exactly Kindred...I could never understand why Spike would be going to hell for two reasons...
One, his soul was good and as you said should have gone to heaven when he died and the demon took over.
Two, he made the ultimate good with the whole self sacrifice by putting Buffy and everyone elses life above his own.
The only thing I can figure is it's like Angel mentioned...that the soul is back but the demon is still there. The demon should go to hell but the sould should not. But it is still strange and I would really like to see if and how they explain it...
 
However he didn't just die, there was more to it, he made the hellmouth collaps with the amulet, maybe ... just maybe that has something to do with him being sucked into hell.
 
I'm sure it does...but I still hope they explain why despite all of the other things mentioned above...I just hope they clarify it all. For all we know the big bad guys were trying to hit Angel but it's all linked to that and there are so many things that need answering before we know why this is happening to Spike...
 
I do not understand

What I do not understand is what is he exactly?
Is he half human half vampire, is he a ghost vampire or a ghost.
Can someone explain this coz the show has not
 
Even if his soul went to heaven when he was turned... his original soul would have been returned to him when he saw the Demon in Africa. So, his soul technically is not in heaven anymore. It's in Spike's body.

Now, when he was caught in the hellmouth collapse, and we saw him burn, did he retain his soul at that moment when going into the amulet, or was it released? At this point in time, does Spike really have a soul, or does he just think he has a soul and is doing good because of his new character development.

But yeah, I agree, that if he did retain his soul when trapped in the amulet, and considering all the good things he has done, and hey, saved the world, he should not be going to Hell. There is something about this story that is not fitting. And I'm guessing we are going to discover it next week with the spike-centric episode.

what about angel?he went to the hell and he wasn't bad whe he was human,...he wasn't like william,but wasn't like angelus neither
 
Angel went to Hell because it was all apart of the Acathla deal.... Whoever opened it had to go to hell, It had to do with his physical being, his blood, nothing else was established.... I'm just blowin' smoke, i only know what i think.

But, thanks for replying everyone.... It was really driving me nuts, making me wonder if i had missed some pivital thing...

Or MAYBE Spike just told Fred that he's afraid he's being sucked into hell so that her sympathetic, compassionate self WOULD HELP HIM!

I guess that with the revelation that "The Reaper" was the one making Spike pop in and out, we know that he wasn't actually going to hell but was under the thrall of the bad man.

wow! i didn't think of it like that! he might not have a soul but thinks he does cos he's a good guy- it didn't occur to me that the blue thing that flies out of him in 'chosen' could actually be his soul escaping and going back to heaven or whatever.

He's a ghost of a vampire with a soul, so I think he actually has a soul.

Spike may have still been sensitive 'cause he still retained memories from his human life and he can never escape his rejection... he's just sensitive... only without a soul, he likes to kill. When Angelus was "born," he still held in his heart his father's disapproval and he will always feel those human memories, no matter how much of a monster he is.


I have some theories about why Angel and Spike will both be going to Hell. For one, their soul is tied with their inner demon, so their souls will still go to Hell with that demon. Also, Angel has killed innocents after he was resouled, as seen in "Orpheus." Spike killed throughout S7 and as Angel said, it doesn't matter how many lives they saved. All that matters are the lives they took.
