New Comic Book

In the latest issue of Dark Horse Comics' Buffy the Vampire Slayer series, in stores today, Buffy weighs the life of being the "chosen" Slayer against the life she's about to bring into the world. After some soul-searching with the son of another former Slayer, Buffy decides to have an abortion.

This is sure going to be a different Buffy then we know! If I am right, the son of the former Slayer was an African-American that had a one night sex act with Faith? This is going on a thin line with the fan base. Having an abortion, they could lose some fans with the outcome of this new book.

It is interesting ... but some folks don't want to be spoiled. You should take the spoiler out of your thread title and add a warning that this thread contains spoilers.

I already knew and don't mind comics spoilers, but some people do mind them.

Anyway it will be interesting to see where Joss takes this.
 
I agree, this is quite spoilerific, despite the title not including specifics. (Heh, that's almost a rhyme).

Despite this being an interesting topic, it's still not enough for me to start with the comics. It seems so far apart from the Buffy we knew and loved on tv, I personally, just don't like it.

Yes put some spoiler alert, people got mad in the past fot things like this 😀

It's a topic I'm definitely interested in, I don't read the comics but I'll check that issue.
 
Aww.... I'm really sad that she's going to have an abortion. It doesn't make me less of a fan of the series, but I do wish we'd gotten to see Buffy as a mom. And it would have definitely made an interesting addition to the already complicated Buffyverse.

that's sad, but not surprising in the slightest. Why bother making her pregnant in the first place? I know, I know, it's for the drama and character development, but still...I'm kinda sad.
 
Yeah, no really great shock here. I will be interested to see if she decides to include the father, assuming that she knows who he is, in those plans.

("...assuming that she knows who he is..." really sounds terrible, and I didn't mean that as any kind of judgement, really. I just meant that this is the Buffyverse, and mysterious conceptions have happened before, and will no doubt to so again in the future, magic or no magic)
 
I really wanted Buffy to keep the baby, i was sooooo happy when i found out, i just want her to be happy, but why does Joss always have to ruin things 🙁
 
The part where this is addressed, in the comics, kinda broke my heart.

I hate to see my characters hurt. 🙁
 
I like that Joss isn't going down the predictable route and making her have the baby. I don't think abortion is really brought up enough in TV/popular culture but then I can see why as I know it's still a bit of an iffy topic in America.
 
If she keeps the baby, things could get very similar to Angel season 3, where Angel and his friends help raise Connor, or Buffy season 5 and 6 where they (basically) raise Dawn after Joyce dies. I'm interested to see where this goes, and who the father is

It was much simpler with Angel and Connor, since the pregnancy took place off screen, and the baby became a teenager within a single season. Joss can't do that with Buffy (well, he could, but using that same plot device again would be EXTREMELY poor writing) So terminating the pregnancy in some fashion is the only practical option. Sad, tragic even, but inevitable.

As for who the father is, I seriously doubt that we ever will actually know, and it's probably better that way, if for no other reason than that he doesn't have to become involved in Buffy's ultimate decision. In fact, it would probably be best if Buffy herself didn't know. Just the consequence of a blind drunk, unprotected, one night stand.

My thought exactly, and I said it in The Back Steps section. Something seems wrong here. Why would they write an arc about Buffy being pregnant and then make it disappear like nothing? It doesn't make sense.

I also said that the comics show that Buffy decides to have an abortion. Nobody said that she does. I don't really believe it ends there. If it does, it's stupid of Joss.

True, can you imagine if they never told us who the father is though? People would rip Joss Whedon in half lol. It's such an important thing, I really do hope they tell us who the father is

Given how twisted and evil Joss can be with his story lines, absolutely. In fact, the more that I think about it, the more I believe that he never planned on revealing who the father of Buffy's baby is, unless it winds up being some kind of season finale cliff hanger.

Excellent point. It just seems to be a waste of a good plot element to NOT have the baby or pregnancy be important in some way.

And I'm still suspicious that Willow is somehow involved in the whole thing, magic or no magic.
 
Yeah...i'll wait to see..saying that she DECIDES to rather than wording it that she HAS one tells me it's not going to be so simple or absolute.

yeah, Joss did seem to stress the word decide in all the interviews, the actual action...not so much. Guess well have to wait.
