The way Joss phrases it, there's no way she's actually going to have the baby. He stresses his disappointment with the glorification of pregnancy (particularly in situations where the mother clearly isn't ready/equipped to raise a child, which is the case with Buffy), and as much as I hate the comics, I do have tons of respect for him for tackling this.

I wouldn't be surprised if something else came of it, but even if it is what it is, it's significant in terms of character development.

I'm just really tired of Buffy being so irresponsible. I know I'm sounding horribly judgemental, and I know wonderful people make mistakes. But comic book Buffy is a thousand times more selfish, immature and irresponsible the tv show Buffy ever was. Buffy had sex in high school and college responsibly but now that she is what 25 she just decides to have drunken one night stands or space sex with Angel even if it causes the world to end. I don't expect her to be perfect, but it would be nice if the comics could end with me still having some respect for a character that on the tv show I considered a role model growing up.
