Who's seen it?

I just got back, it was soooo good. I absolutely loved it, Iv'e been trying to stay away from the hype and any of the online videos cuz I wanted it all to be new.

Some bits were so Whedon, I think I was looking for Whedon bits way to much, like was anyone else thinking Sunnydale falling into the hellmouth with the opening?

And how Pearson died, my mind immediately saw Anya. That was a fantastic idea, I loved Pearson but it was a great motivator to get them to come together - Although I totally saw it coming, the moment I saw him getting more personal screen time and we learned a bit more about him, it had stinkyness of Whedon making us like someone to kill them!

It was so funny as well, I loved when Tony said Agent Pearson's first name was Agent, that was great.

The hulk and Thor walking through the broken window thing, standing there all triumphant for a moment and then Hulk just punches him off screen, I was laughing so hard!

Oh and Thor saying Loki was his brother, Black Widow points out he killed 80 people and he's like 'Well he's adopted' - so so funny, great delivery!

What about the bit at the end? Superskrull? He definitely had the mouth and he did look a bit red tinted right?
 
Isn't "Pearson's" name Phil Coulson? Lol.

Anyway, I saw it last night and it was fantastic!!!!

I loved that part with Hulk punching Thor, too. Haha. I think Bruce Banner/Hulk was the stand out character for me in this movie. I was initially skeptical because Im used to Edward Norton being Banner, but Mark Ruffalo totally owned the part.

I loved the sort of bromance between Stark and Banner. Stark as usual had some brilliant lines. Everyone did.

I was on the verge of tears when Phil died. I knew before going into the cinema that a character died, but I didn't know who. I'm really sad it was him. He's been in it since Iron Man and I really liked him.

I don't think Cobie Smulders' character was developed enough, but I suppose theres just not enough time for that.

Who IS the guy in the end-of-credits scene? Someone told me he's the god of death or something. Anyway, it appears as though we'll be getting a sequel. I was worried that they were starting with too powerful a villain and that it would be difficult to top Loki and his alien army in a second movie, but it seems it can be done.

Overall, Avengers was a thoroughly enjoyable film with plenty of action and comedy. I'm really tempted to read marvel comics now, but I have no idea where to start. 😀

Not a clue were I got Pearson from lol!
I saw it yesterday and completely loved it to pieces!! I seriously think it is now my favourite superhero movie ever and I didn't think much could top X-men: First Class in my eyes! I was scared I'd hyped it up too much in my head and it wouldn't be as good as I wanted it to be but I was SO impressed!

But...

COULSON. COULSON COULSON COULSON. SON OF COUL. I AM ACTUALLY GUTTED ABOUT COULSON. But it was Joss so I guess we couldn't expect to walk away 100% happy!

(I've been wanting to scream and shout about Coulson since I saw it but didn't want to spoil people so thank god for this thread 😛 )

I loved the banter between them all , probably more so than the epic fights and stuff! "I was watching you sleep" "Dost thy mother know thou wearest her drapes?" (seriously couldn't stop laughing at that line!) "He's adopted!" "I get that reference!" all those kind of moments were my faves :')

I seriously have no complaints about this movie. Well apart from poor Coulson :'( I was worried that some of the characters would get shoved to the side for the bigger ones but I thought they got a pretty decent amount of screentime each so I was pleased!
 
I think Kree Skrull would be a bit too much for an audience next movie... then again if they pull it off DC and the makers of Green Lantern movie will be kicking themselves completely 🙂

Saw this three weeks ago at a press screening, I've never left the cinema on such a high before!! It was Brilliance... sheer brilliance!
 
I took my boyfriend to see this yesterday. He was really chuffed it was out on his birthday. I loved it. Best movie I've seen for a very long while. I think I was more excited about it than Andy. I absolutely loved the part where Hulk punched Thor. Brilliant timing. And when Hulk smashed up Loki near the end. And the adopted reference. All of it was brilliant. I am seriously considering going to see it again. I kept thinking 'Oo that's Joss'. Steelwork had some great lines but I always find his lines entertaining. I like his character a lot. I think RDJ delivers the lines really well. When Coulson died I was sad but I knew he was going to have a final stand against Loki, that's very Joss IMO. I liked his character a lot though it's a shame he isn't going to be in it any longer. It was good to see Robin from HIMYM in it too 🙂

Immense though. I'll recommend it to anyone.

I was thinking the same, that it might be to much another alien invasion.
 
I saw it yesterday. It was really great! One of the best movies I've watched in the movie theater.
Besides The Avengers, the best movies I've seen at a movie theater are Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and Jurassic Park.

And putting a movie on a list with Jurassic Park is about the highest compliment a movie can receive from me. 😉
Joss did a really great job.

And Since I'm a big film music fan, I paid much attention to Alan Silvestri's score. What can I say, Joss made a good decision engaging Silvestri.
The man made the music for Forrest Gump and Back to the Future. He really knows what he's doing.
I also liked how the music was more of a classic movie score. I've nothing against those Hans Zimmer/Dark Knight type scores that sound more electrical and all, but a good old symphonic score is just something great. 🙂

Bottom line, I'm really satisfied with the movie. Joss really didn't disappoint me and all the excellent reviews didn't promise too much.

After watching it again, I think it could also be someone else but I can't recall their name but it's along the lines of the god of death... which is probably more in keeping with Whedon's love of mythology 😀

And yes I squeeled when Joss' name came up at the end <-- sad person lol

Saw it last night and was pretty impressed, much better than Cabin in the Woods IMHO.

As I'm a big science nerd it was great to hear people talking about overcoming the Coulomb barrier, Iridium rich asteroids(K-T boundary) and so on.
Really adds a layer of realism to a film which is essentially about people with superpowers. As Stan Lee said in the film ''superhero's in New York...give me a break'' lol.

Oh and did anyone catch the Shwarma reference that Tony Stark makes at the end of the movie?
In 'Teacher's Pet' Season 1 of Buff Xander talks to miss French about it at her house.

I never knew what Shwarma was either until I saw that Buff episode.

Probably unintentional linkage between Buff and the Avengers, but hey, I can dream. lol
 
Just watched it, loved it!

I'm not a fan of reading American comics, but I am a fan of the characters, so I scour their Wiki pages instead of reading the actual issues. Stark was awesome and hilarious as per usual and I loved the interaction between him and Rogers. Loki was great, but he got more tiresome towards the end when he kept harping on the same lines and theme. And COULSON. Dear god. Still, only one death must be a record for Joss.
 
Finally I can stop avoiding this thread now I've seen the film. It was brilliant, I'm so proud of Joss for pulling off an excellent film with so many cast members. I so didn't see Coulson's death coming but it made sense on how it truly bought everyone together. Typical for Joss to kill off a character out of the blue haha!

Looking forward to seeing the film again at the weekend.
 
I saw the movie last week, and I really loved it !!

Joss' writing is recognizable at so many levels.

I'm going to see it again tomorrow 🙂

Loved the movie. Laughed a lot.

For Joss, too many characters survived. Nick Fury as Urkonn-lite was priceless.

Oh, and the the first Natasha scene the text of the Russian ad in the background was gibberish. 🙂
