Ok, so I'm watching S5 of Angel for the first time and I keep noticing the little exchanges between Spike and Fred.
What would you have thought about Spred?? I, personally, think it could have been very cute. I loved their scenes together!

I would have loved it. The little smiles they'd give eachother were adorable. But I think Spike thought of her more as a sister than anything.
Well, I'm a diehard Fresley, but I still thought their little flirtation was fun and very cute. It would have been adorable to see the effect sweet little Fred would have had on Spike and vice versa.

Spred wouldn't work in my head. Fred is simply not strong enough to handle one like Spike. She is too sweet. And Spike sadly requires someone who can hit back. Fred would most likely slap him one time, and then cry and be sorry. I think the chances of Spred never even was there. A close friendship though...It's possible

A souled Spike would never have hurt Fred!
It would been cute. But maybe I've seen Spuffy in s7 too much before ANGEL s5 so I never thought Spike and Fred flirted each other back there. ^^ By the way, I like Spillyria better. 😉

Totally think Spred could have happened....I think Spike would have treated her much like how he treated a fragile Dru...he's a tentative guy, he gives girls what they want (hehehe...seriously) He looked after Dru, gave Buffy and aspect she needed to move on, even if it didn't work out for him in the end, and then was the hero when she needed him to be as well....I would think the only girl he really didn't treat well was Harmony.

It would have been sweet....though, yes....Spillyria would be hotter 😉

I also saw that there was *something* going on there. I thought it was cute, and a bit of a pity that in the end she went for lame-ass Wesley (Okay, he's not lame, at all. But he is lame compared to Spike. But that's just my opinion ^^) I'd go as far as to say that Spred, although I would still, by miles, prefer Spuffy or Sprusilla, might have saved Fred's character in my eyes. I didn't really like her that much. It would have been interesting to see what side of her would come out if she were dating a formerly evil vampire. Right now, I can't see her standing up to Spike, which, like Perny, I think he needs (his two great loves both had some pair of balls). But who knows. She already bent some rules to help him, right?

I don't know, I think Fred might have surprised everyone... Remember how she yelled at the people in the lab when they weren't working fast enough to find the cure for the little boy?? She might have had it in her... Sadly, we'll never know. 🙁
Spillyira?? Hmm.... I can see that. 😀

i love their exchanges--some of my favourite parts of season 5--but i see them more as incredibly intimate friends, not lovers. i adore fresley and i'm a die-hard spuffy, so spike and fred would have been great friends in my mind. the chemistry is there, i just don't think it's romantic chemistry.

The Spuffy people would have had a fit though.

Not all of us. I support the Spuffy relationship simply because Spike wants Buffy. He has fought for her, suffered for her, put up with the abuse of the Scoobies for her, even died fir her. He wants her, he has paid the price in pain, humiliation, and blood, therefore I want him to have her. She doesn't now and probably never will merit the kind of love, devotion, and passion that he has to offer, and I really think that in the end he would be better off with someone else. Faith comes to mind immediately, but either Fred or Illyria would do quite nicely.

Spike wants Buffy, therefore I want him to have her. But to quote my favorite Vulcan, "Sometimes having something is not as pleasurable as wanting it. It is not logical, but it is nevertheless true."

Nah. Spred (or Frike I actually like a tad more) is like the most mismatched romantic pairing I could think of... it never would have worked, or even gotten off the ground for that matter. Spike by nature is a huge flirt with practically everyone but I cannot ever see him seriously interested in her in that way. And Fred, she might have briefly crushed on him but much like her crush on Angel it would have quickly faded. Spike and Fred had a wonderfully playful and ultimately deeply caring friendship chemistry, but IMO thats all that it could ever be.

Spike/Fred would fade real quick. They have no chemistry with each other. Another pair of disaster ready to happen. It would be boring and totally pointless to the story. It's like watching Fred/Gunn all over again. Spike's better off with Drusilla or Buffy.

I thought Fred and Gunn had AMAZING chemistry.
Although the exchanges between them were super cute ("That you're worth saving" ... can you say 'aaaaawww'?), I think I would've been rather bewildered if it had actually happened. They are just such radically different people, the kind you can't see hooking up AT ALL together. I don't think Spike is even into the brainy type, just as Fred doesn't seem to have the Bad Boy thing going on.
