Spred

I think 'Spred' as a cute wee friendship is great, but no Spike and Fred getting together! That would just be wrong! 😛

And I don't know about "Spred" as the official ship name though. It just sounds strange. What about Frike? Well, that sounds strange, too. Nevermind...

Spred... Spread... haha.. could sound wrong... (sw)
I would have loved for them to have one of those flings that ended in them deciding to be friends. Spike could have loosened her up a bit I think and it would have been great to see the fiery, passionate side of Fred. It could have been a hell of an episode. I like Spuffy because I also like to see Spike get what he wants but Fred is an interesting and wonderful character that could have been good for him. But...alas...it all worked out because Spike would have gone more ballistic when she died. He's already suffered that torment.

Spike/Fred would fade real quick. They have no chemistry with each other. Another pair of disaster ready to happen. It would be boring and totally pointless to the story. It's like watching Fred/Gunn all over again. Spike's better off with Drusilla or Buffy.

Airam agrees: I thought Fred and Gunn had AMAZING chemistry.

I have to disagree big time on the Fred/Gunn relationship. First time I watched it when it first aired, never like them pairing off. Hated it. They had no chemistry at all and took way too long for it too end. That was four or five years ago.

Recently, I watched all 5 seasons. I forgot about almost everything: the characters, plot lines, relationships, etc., etc. Everything was clean slate. After watching, I still don't like Fred/Gunn relationship. The chemistry was still flat and took way too long to end.

Gunn was just a roadblock between WES and FRED. I dislike Gunn's character, but you know what, he was way better with either Anne or Gwen.

Yes I know YOU feel that way, its a valid opinion. But I feel so strongly that their chemistry rocked, I felt compelled to state it :)

Gunn and Anne would have been great.

I agree, although I did LIKE Gunn. I just felt he wasn't right for Fred. But it was nice to see that side of his character. :)

Couldn't agree more. I think they had wonderful chemistry, and as a one-ep fling, it would probably have worked out excellently... but I really can't see them "happening" over the long term; one or both of them would have had to change too much in character to make it work out to last.

Add to that, of course, the "been there, done that"-ness of Spike's love dying (assuming we would have got HITW being Spred instead of Fresley), and the fact that AS5 was, if anything, already too Spike-heavy with him pretty much taking over the show the moment he enterd the cast - I think it's obvious why Joss chose not to go into that direction.

I'm all about the Fresley but I would have liked Spred as an 'Opps! a spell has happened' sort of pairing. Like in Something Blue with Spike and Buffy, as it would have been adorable. But, don't think it would actually work.

Now Spillyria on the other hand... 😀

Awh, I love Spred... (And Spillyria, and Fresley, and Wilah, and Frangel...)

I think it could've worked out. In S5, Fred was a strong, confident young woman. She definitely was tough enough to keep Spike under control, especially mentally. She was a sweetheart, but she was no longer a push-over. She could hold her own, and Spike would've been really dear to her.

But what I don't like about it is it would've made both of them too sweet, which after a while would've gotten boring to watch. Plus, Fred was completely in love with Wes.

But, say that Fred didn't die. When Wes DID die in S5, in S6 she could've gone on some crazy out of control rampage with an uncanny similarity to Spuffy S6. Now THAT, my friends, would've been fun. 😀 Not to mention, the year after that they could really fall in love, then Fred will die for him... (Spike dies for his lovers too much) 😀

I definitely thought so. Spike grew quickly attached to her because of how much she was willing to help him become corporeal 😀
Even though I'm hardcore Fresley, it wouldn't been nice to see them together 🙂

Interesting how so many replies say, "Spred would have been great! SO much better than Spuffy!" when Spuffy was not part of the question at all. Very interesting.

Anyway, I think they were adorable, but as WA so eloquently put it, Spike wants and loves Buffy. For him, I don't think there will ever truly be anyone else.
