Spuffies--Do You Like Angel?

You know, as I keep on watching the show, I kind of like Angel less and less. I love him of course; after all, I usually see the Buffyverse through Cordy-Colored glasses, but... I dunno, I just find his character to be kind of boring. Angelus is way cooler. 😀

I'm definitely more Spuffy then Bangel, but I'm definitely more Spangel then Spuffy... SO. Yes I like Angel. Mostly.

Sometimes he's a little to righteous for my liking, and I probably would have liked to see him cut loose a little bit more. That's why I like him and Spike together so much. Spike tends to bring out an extra piece of life in Angel that noone else can.

So yeah, I don't know if my opinion is valid here, even though I do love Spike and Buffy together.

It's valid. ;) Many spuffies love Spangel. :D
I love Angel. 🙂 He's so adorable when he's goofy. I like him on BtVS and AtS, but he tends to be too serious and gloomy on BtVS. On his own show, he smiles more, jokes more, be silly with his friends more, I guess this is the key word "friends". He didn't have friends in Sunnydale, which was why he didn't smile a lot. His only friend was Buffy. 🙁

And B because Joss Whedon said hed trash them if he had the chance to do a movie. So he obviously doesnt care about them that much.

He will never do the movie, that's why he said it. And if he doesn't care about the comics, why start them in the first place? Why write issues and why decide to do a Season Nine?

We don't really know the whole story with Angel yet. In the Riley issue, they'll show us how Angel became Twilight -or something to do with Angel and Twilight and then when the last arc comes -which Joss is writing - we'll know more about the whole story.

He said it because he meant it. I'm not saying he doesn't care about the comics but if the chance arrived to do a movie or even a TV revival, he'll erase the comics without reservation.
even before spike came along I was never a huge angel fan.

too much of the 'do the right thing because it's the right thing' for me.

I think I like him more once he leaves buffy for L.A. then I ever did when he was on buffy.

I'm both for Bangel and Spuffy, but I really dislike Angel right now and I have since Season 8 happened, and I agree with Joan. Angel following Buffy around after all that's happen to him is ridiculous, and the whole point of the show Angel was to show that he wasn't just Buffy's boyfriend! But now, Angel is ruined and unfortunately there's nothing anyone can do about it or at least now. Sorry, but I'm just Anti-Angel right now, and it's a shame because I used to like him when he was a hero.

Even though I sometimes read a few comics and consider them cannon, I'm going to pretend that the ones with Angel don't exist.

comcs ARE cannon. least BTVS ones are. I believe the newer angel ones are not?

Well I know its canon but It doesnt mean I have to accept it I just ignore it. I dont like how its written, I think theyre Out of Character. I think its badly written, which for something Whedon related to me is unnacceptable. The only arc I even found interesting was Faiths, theyre the only ones I'm willing to waste my money on. The Twilight thing just infuriates me maybe later ill read them but right now I just could care less what happens next because its not going to be anything good.

I totally dig Angel. The only times I don't like him are when he's with Buffy. They both annoy the crap out of me when they're together. Individually, I like Angel a lot. And I love Angelus too.

Exactly how I feel too. I absolutely love Angel as a character, but not when he's with Buffy. For me, especially in BtVS s3, his character took a complete 180 and not in a good way. They never balanced each other after that. As much as I tried to see the good and understand his feelings, I just couldn't, and I will analyze anything for hours, lol!

I also love Angel much more on his own show. We get to see sides of him (both good and bad) that were never explored on BtVS. And he's a pretty complex character, so I'm glad we got to see his story develop more in detail.

I can't really speak for the comics, since I've only read summaries. But, from what I've read, I hope Angel gets back on track, if it's not too late.

Connor Holtz agrees: He said it because he meant it. I'm not saying he doesn't care about the comics but if the chance arrived to do a movie or even a TV revival, he'll erase the comics without reservation.

He'll never make a movie. He knows it and we know it. Besides, I'd like to read his comment to make judgment first because I forgot it and usually his words get twisted around.

Besides, if he wasn't interested in these comics, why make them in the first place? He'll dismiss them as canon after a lot of fans paid for them and were invested in them? That's such an assholic move on his part. And he'll anger a lot of his fans.

If Joss would ever make a movie, it'll be far in the future because all the actors look too old to play twenty-something year old characters. So maybe in their late thirties, and if that happened, there'll be no need to mention events from the show or the comics because so many years had passed and the Scoobies went through a lot between the comics and the movie.

Him being an a** really wouldnt surprise me I could totally see him doing that.
When Angel was on Buffy, I didn't like or hate him. He was the mysterious vampire guy that hung around alleyways and talked all cryptic. I couldn't form an opinion on such a flat character. When he got his own show, we got to see him with a real personality and traits. He smiled more and developed human relationships. Then he was reveled as a closet Manilow fan, and well I loved the dude. But after all this Twilight mess... I don't know if I'll ever see him the same way again.

At first I liked him because he was watching Buffy's back... but then it seemed like he didn't develop. The relationship developed, but Angel did not.

On AtS I found myself getting really irritated with his famous bruiting. It was like, there comes a time when you just gotta suck it up and deal rather than bruiting and sulking. That's why I loved it when Connor was a baby, because all of the sudden Angel was happy and active rather than angry/sad and bruiting and sulking all of the time.

I liked Angel on BtVS, I loved him on AtS and I'm very baffled by the comics. I guess by the end of the season 8 I'll be able to give a more definite answer.

I felt the same way him being Buffy's love interest got old to me especially after this many re-watches.

I didn't find him to bruiting on Angel actually I thought he joked a lot more and had some healthy relationships. I agree when baby Connor came in it was so sweet to see his happiness. Like Elmo above said it was also great to see him sing some Manilow.

I didn't think that Angel did that much on his time on Buffy, but I love Angel (the show). I'm a definite Spuffy, but Angel isn't bad. I like him. Spike's just better.

At the begining I wasn't sure. I had already seen some of Season 6 and was straight away recruited by the Spuffies and I knew, when I started watching Season 1, that Buffy and Angel became a couple so I just wasn't sure about him. But he grew on me like many characters do. I'm not sure exactly the attraction but he just seems a really good character to me.

Sometimes I have come across Angel and Edward Cullen comparisons. Now, I can't STAND to bring Edward into this because it makes me cringe but I figured I wanted to mention it. People say that Angel is boring sometimes but if you want boring go look at Cullen. Angel has more of a personality and while he does brood and mope a lot that's just part of his character. He has a right. He has lived for over 200 years and has a soul so we can cut him some slack here.

Though personally, I do like him as Angelus better. As someone evil you really start to see something interesting in him. He doesn't constantly brood, instead he tortures and kills people. Call me insane and sick but I like watching him do that. It adds something in it for me and I just find him amusing that way. He's less boring and develops layers. That's why I love the episode where he and Buffy trick Faith into believing he's lost his soul. I loved watching him 'play' his bad self.

Now, nobody think bad of me, I haven't actually seen his solo show. Maybe he's less boring on that that...which would make him majorly interesting. I've just heard some things that are strange. The whole him and Darla having a kid and the Cangel paring. But it does sound interesting, I'll have to check it out.

Overall, I do love Angel in a strange way.

Don't worry, I agree. Angelus is WAY more amusing than Angel :D

You should check out Angel that is when I really fell in love with his character. Don't worry the Cangel and Darla will make sense when you watch.
As a Bangel, this question was specifically not directed at me, but I have another turn on it. I love Buffy and Angel together, but I don't always love Angel. I thought the writing of his character in AtS was a bit inconsistent. I love Angel when he's broody, which I think is why I love him with Buffy - so much puppy dog eyes. *melts* Goofy Angel, who shows up at random intervals on AtS, tends to annoy me.

So I guess there's more than one way to skin a cat.

I like Angel... on Angel. Not on Buffy. He annoys the crap out of me on Buffy. (Which is the same way I am about Cordy. Hate her on Buffy, don't mind her on Angel.)

But like many others, I prefer him as Angelus.

Yup, I'm a Spuffy. And yup, I like Angel. A whole heck of a lot, actually. I liked him on BTVS well enough, (I actually ship Bangel in the high school years a *little* bit) but on ATS I love him. It probably helps that I also ship the hell out of Cangel, but I just love that he's very selfless (usually), funny (when he wants to be), still slightly morally ambiguous (think S2 and S5 of ATS!) but still very, very heroic. I love that he accepts the work he has to do, that he's willing to lay down his life for others, and the dynamic that he has with Cordy, Wes, Gunn, Spike, and Fred. He's also pretty adorkable sometimes- LOL forever @ his love for ballet in Waiting in the Wings and at Daddy!Angel. 🙂

I dislike Bangel, but that's really not related to my love for Spuffy. It's certainly not related to any dislike for Angel. I don't ship based on what I don't like. That just doesn't make any sense to me. I just honestly don't like the ship as a whole.

On a side note, my two OTPs are Spike/Buffy and Cordy/Angel. Sister ships, anyone? 😉

Wanted to add that Angel in the comics is just so OOC I can't even process it right now. I'm definitely not counting Season Eight (as of yet, anyway) when I say that I like Angel.

I love your post! lol Spuffy Cangel ftw! lol
I love both Angel and Angelus, though the latter is a lot more entertaining than the former.

I used to not care one way or the other about Angel much on Buffy's show. He was okay, he was good looking and I liked the chemistry between him and Buffy (and the angst and all that, too). I loved the idea of a vampire with a soul having to make up for his past and so on.

But I think as soon as he got his own series, he became a much more interesting character because he was no longer in Buffy's shadow anymore, so to speak, and it was no longer only about the relationship between the two of them but it was about his journey for the redemption of his own soul.
