Spuffies only: Do you see chemistry in Bangel?

I think this little scene in Ted is an underrated gem. Angel is really charming and the advice he gives to Buffy is so good. The episode Ted annoys me, because it starts out as an episode about dealing with the fact that your parents may get together with other people, but then it does a flip halfway through.
And in Amends, where DB probably gives his best performance as Angel, and their natural chemistry is most evident.
David brings his A game in Amends, but damn it, so does Sarah. It baffles me that she failed. I mean, Angel would have died had it not been for the snow. Sarah's transitions from anger to teary vulnerability are so extreme and so masterly. "What about me?" I would have melted in her arms.

Reason # 137 for hating Angel: Did not follow Buffy inside in Amends after Buffy gave heart wrenching speech.

Yes I never understood that either. Angel would have killed himself despite everything Buffy said and did. She begged him. She often begged him I thought, which actually put me off their relationship. But the acting was fine and nuanced and they were so beautiful walking hand in hand through the snow

I was happy in some way it acknowledged the movie

Okay, I didn`t know that. I never watched the movie, tbh. I don`t think Angel did either, so my Point still stands. He wanted to say something nice to her......

The leather jacket is awesome. Doesn`t go with the dress in Prophecy Girl, though. The dress in itself isn`t bad, by the way. Drusilla would look gorgeous in it. But Buffy ? Come on - that dress does nothing for her.

I honestly don't recall the Bangel storylines. I last watched the early episodes about 6 months ago so I'm more than happy to put this down to my advancing years. 🙁 I'm sure there's chemistry - as other folk describe it, it all sounds very...nice. 🙂

This is how I feel about Bangel. It probably made me feel good in the short term but its effects didn't last for long.

By way of comparison, this is how I feel about Spuffy - I don't know what it is - what it does - where it starts - or where it stops. It might explode or fizzle out - but it's exciting.

Stop being so damn clever :)
Another Bangel moment is in Lovers Walk, when Buffy challenges Angel to say he doesn't love her. That is so sad and painful. I will have to watch Amends now as you have mentioned it as a Bangel moment. Also the last dance at the Prom then when he leaves at the end of Grad Day 2.
All milestone moments for them both.

That was great. It bothers me a little bit, because it means I cannot blame the breakup entirely on Angel 😛 But I guess when Spike tells you you are in trouble, you better believe it.

The scene in Surprise is probably the exception, because it's where it works that it's over the top. I love that scene; I was referring to the more everyday conversational scenes if that makes sense. Though I've never really been a fan of the tai chi. I don't really understand its point or why it's great.

I always take that scene to show the metaphor/symbolism that they cannot achieve balance in their relationship - neither can stop their feelings and love or sexual desire for one another. This same theme, IMO, is even more emphasized in IWRY. The first thing they do is forget about being mature or Balanced and instead cannot get into their sexual encounter fast enough. Same theme happens at the grave yard scene for Joyce's death - what is so often ignored by some fans of the B&A love relationship is the continuous sexual conflict that they would have to live with without Angel's soul being anchored. They want to have a full lovers relationship and that includes the expression of that love with full range sexual intercourse.

Regarding their chemistry - no question for me that they have it in their earlier seasons - how could they not with the intensity of their love and SMG was very much invested in their love story - she is still to this day if we go by her public statements.

The important element for me is not to even compare the two relationship on the idea of "parity or best" - the relationship are so totally different in every way. What is inescapable to me is that the Angel/Angelus factor always cast a huge shadow over the relationship between Buffy and Spike. It is not until the ending of the series and when Buffy is able to understand and have a different perspective on Spike and his life as a human and vampire and her own life that she can think, feel and accept a transformed relationship with him. For me that time is firmly established when she gives him the strength to keep fighting against the mind control of the First Evil with her comment about having seen the monster in him and that Spike kept fighting against it.

I've never been a big fan of the Buffy-Angel relationship it was, IMO, very damaging to her but they sure did have some great love chemistry moments they closer the got to their fateful sexual consummation event they more intense their make out sessions became.

Rarely does sparks fly as wildly as when Buffy and Spike share the screen together. However, how do we feel about the relationship that came before? Personally, I think there are some really great Bangel moments. Unlike James and Sara, David is a inconsistent actor at best, but when he is good, he can be really good.

How does the rest of you feel? Did Bangel have any chemistry at all?

Yeah, I'd agree Buffy and Angel had chemistry, for a while. However, the chemistry she has with Spike is stronger and has sustained over the years, while whatever connection had had with Angel is long gone.

They had chemistry but it was largely at times Buffy chasing Angel which annoyed me at times.
But they're a good ship but I will always love Spuffy more

That's the main problem I have with Buffy/Angel, Buffy always seemed to be running after him. He wouldn't even ask her for coffee until Willow shouted at him lol. I know Angel loved her, but that was symbolic to me that he couldn't 'show' his love, either with coffee or sexually. They talked love, all that 'I want to die when you kiss me' nonsense, but it never seemed to be in the action, and when it was, Angel vanished and Buffy got Angelus

And actions do speak louder then words. Bangel was a good ship but they had a lot of flaws & Angel seemed to always make the decisions for the relationship. He left her. He's the one who decides when he comes back. He's the one who decided to wipe her memory in IWRY. Spike let Buffy & him be equal partners.

Spike had always seemed more human than Angel and that probably affected the chemistry positively. Angel seems more vampirish to me. When We first see spike he's already feeling human emotion towards Dru. Even the judge could see they were different. Maybe angelus made dru so crazy that she kept part of her humanity and passed or taught it to soike? So the fact that spike like food and dancing and reading makes the chemistry between him and Buffy feel more real.

And that's a big reason why I love Spuffy. Spike loved her since Season 5. He admitted it and felt it several times. Angelus could not love Buffy or any human. All he inflicted was hurt on her. Again Spike is not perfect without a soul but he does show many caring moments that Spuffy fans love throughout S2 - S6 when he doesn't have a soul.
I don't think any Bangel ships Buffy & Angelus lol

I don't think it was Dru cuz even Harmony was way more human after turning than Angelus. So Angelus was a little more troubled than other vampires

Angel was as connected to his human self as all other vampires are imo. It is just that his personal issues, Liam's, revolved around the expectations of his father and the social restrictions of a Catholic upbringing. Both of which he both fell to the pressure of (staying at home) and tried to reject (his whoring/drinking). As a vampire his response is to reject human emotions which tie you, bonds with others and to seek freedom/travel (it was this freedom that Darla seduced him with the promise of after all). But he also in some complexity of contradiction also wants to make a name for himself, to be 'the worst'. It seems quite human to me, especially in that sense. Wanting to turn from the expectations of others whilst also wanting to prove them wrong (that he would become something). I think the verse is consistent personally on how a vampire is connected to their human past, they are just individuals with their own issues hanging over and their own motivations spurring their responses to the demon inclusion. Angel delights in the freedom from guilt as a soulless vampire and broods in response to all he has done when souled. Makes perfect sense to me when considering Liam.

Harmony was a shallow selfish person as a human and the removal of her soul and inclusion of a demon made less clear difference than it does for most who are killed/sired. Kralik and the Gorch Brothers didn't change as much as normal either by all accounts. The difference between them and Harmony is that they were already physically violent psychotic killers, or predisposed to violence if they hadn't already got a body count. Harmony had only viciously attacked without care verbally that we saw.
