Spuffy #2 - General Discussion

Judging from the way that...

Spike and Buffy are finally reunited (*sigh*) and lucky him-he's discovered the source of all her problems, and it's not Angel. Now Buffy must revisit the place where love was indiscriminate, the Scoobies were formed, and Hell's mouth was closed for good.

...is worded, I would say, or more accurately HOPE, that the reunion, while not as lust-filled as the Bangel sex-a-thon, will be at least very friendly. We might even finally get a definite answer to the "I love you/No you don't, but thanks for saying it" scene's meaning. Best friend, lover, or a combination of the two? It's pretty obvious what we're all hoping for, or we wouldn't be sitting here on this back step.

Whatever the actual reunion brings, we will, for the first time, see Buffy interacting with both souled Spike AND souled Angel pretty much simultaneously, so some sort of comparison will be inevitable. Personally, I would love to see Buffy realize, and finally admit, that she is in love with both men, but simply isn't ready to share her cookies on a full time basis with either (then, of course, she would turn to Spike, wink, and whisper, "What're you doin' after the apocalypse?")

And, of course, I'm sure that we would all do the dance of joy if it could be somehow arranged for Spike to transfer back to Buffy's camp and let Angel stew in his own juices back in LA, though I seriously doubt that IDW would relinquish control of the character.

I don't know what to expect from the reunion but I'm hopeing that it will be a happy one. Like WA above, I don't think (and don't want) there will be Twangelesque sexcapades but I do think that Buffy will be genuinely floored by his re-appearance but also genuinely happy to see him again. No. Beyond happy. Ecstatic. I just want them to get a moment together to recconect and talk.

I had a random fit of Spuffy-loving today. A new girl came into cover a shift at my job today, and turns out she was a Buffy fan too! We chatted about Buffy and Spike for like an hour, lol.

I'm re-watching Season 5 for my first meta I'm attempting to write, and God, I just LOVE the two in this season. Every time I watched a scene with them I love it even more. 😉

Anywho, thanks for posting those preview pages, Tranqiility! I'm intrigued. I guess we'll have to wait it out and see what happens. When does the last issue come out again?

The next issue of Buffy (#36) is out September the 1st or 38 (long) days time. #37 is out 6th october and we do have the Riley one-shot out on August 18.

Okay, so it is a little bit quiet in the general discussion thread so how can we get things a bit more chatty in here?

#1 - don't be afraid of the general discussion thread - ANYTHING Spuffy related can go in here - especially if it will generate discussion. So before starting a new thread consider posting it in the general discussion first 🙂

#2 - The comics seem to be an area of fertile Spuffy goodness - How many of us are reading the comics? Are any of the non-readers going to pick up the coming Buffy arc because Spike will be in it? Or the new Brian Lynch series that has canonical status? What about season Nine - it seems that Spike will be reacurring in it (he will be in it more than Angel who, acording to Scott Allie will have his own things to do - that was from Slay Alive so I'm not going to link) What might that mean for Spike and Buffy?

#3 - We've discussed the season from a Spuffy perspective - what else can we do with the TV Series - Controversial questions? episode discussion? whatever you like - if you can think of one don't be afraid to post it!!

Yikes. There's so many good ones! I guess if I had to pick one for each...

From Spike to Buffy: "Every night I save you."
From Buffy to Spike: "You may not see it, but I do. I do. I believe in you, Spike."

2. Favourite snarky line from Spike to Buffy? Vice versa?

AH! Again, so many to choose just one!

3. Which of the Scoobies do you think would be the most accepting of Spike/Buffy? The least?

Hmmm, I think Willow would be the most accepting. She seemed pretty accepting of Angel, so I think she would understand Buffy again falling for another vampire. I think Xander would be the least accepting.

4. If you could rewrite one Spike/Buffy scene in the series, which would it be? What changes would you make?

I would definitely take out the AR scene. There had to be another dramatic way for Spike to come to the realization that he needed to change and get a soul...

Most: Willow. Even after he threatened her and tried to kill her, she wouldn't let him stake himself, and I can imagine her feeling sympathetic to him.
Least: Xander. Obviously.

4. If you could rewrite one Spike/Buffy scene in the series, which would it be? What changes would you make?
Chosen.

"'Bout damn time."

Not really, I wouldn't change many of their scenes. I like them all for different reasons.

From a personal perspective, having a sister who has had a couple of less than ideal boyfriends, you never really like them, even when they do change their stripes. That doubt always remains. And what makes the Buffy situation kinda poignant is that Dawn used to really like him. (Have to admit I am a bit of a sucker for 'Spike and Dawn sort it out' fanfic, although I would be a little bit surprised if it ever actually happened.)

If you could rewrite one Spike/Buffy scene in the series, which would it be? What changes would you make?
I think maybe I would re-write large chunks of As you Were "“ Just take out a couple of the really belittling things that Spike and Buffy say when Riley finds them in post-coital slumber. Spike really shouldn't call her a "˜bint' and Buffy shouldn't call him "˜stupid.

Buffy #38 Cover! - It's our Spuffy Cover!! Okay, so we didn't get a Jo Chen but I still love it - Buffy and Spike Fighting against the odds is pure awesome. I'm happy. (Though if Jo wants to give us another one in the future, I wouldn't complain!)

Most Accepting: She never seemed to have a problem with Angel and I think she likes Spike anyway. She gave him a cookie 🙂

I'd completely take away the alley scene in Dead Things or the bathroom scene in Seeing Red. Whenever I watch either one of those I wonder why the hell I ship Spuffy. Rewatch of anything in S7 reminds me 🙂

I read the comics diligently and somewhat obsessively. I'm atthe comic book store the morning they come out, lol.

And yes, I am planning on reading Lynch's series because it is canon now...I have to pick that up.

What could it mean for Spike and Buffy that Spike will have redurring status in Season 9? Hopefully only good! I can't see why Buffy being around Spike again on a regular basis could be a BAD thing. Hopefully their romance can be rekindled! How could Buffy resist? We just need Angel out of the picture...

I think Dawn would. Not Xander or Giles, and to be honest, I'm not sure about Willow.

I think I'd change the last scene in 'Chosen.' As in character as Spike's response was, it still upsets me when he says "No, you don't. But thanks for saying it." I would have rather he said, "I love you too, Buffy." 🙂

It's interesting to me that we all agree that Willow would be the most accepting. I don't know, though. I'm reminded of how she reacted when she thought Buffy was sleeping with Spike after her mother died (when, of course, it was the Buffybot). She tried to be supportive, but you could tell she was very clearly judging Buffy for it. Hell, even Tara thought she was "nuts." I guess, considering the alternatives (Giles and Xander), Willow would be the most accepting of the three...I guess my point is is that it'll all be on the surface. Deep down, she wouldn't be cool with it, I don't think.

Interesting! I choose Dawn as most accepting of Spuffy.

I believe Dawn has forgiven Spike, even though we never saw a "reconciliation" on screen. Dawn has grown up, she has perspective on the situation, and I think now she understands how complicated Spike and Buffy's relationship was back then. I think at the end of the day, Dawn wants Buffy happy. if Buffy were to accept Spike back into her life, forgive him for everything that happened between them, I think Dawn would too. As usual, I don't think we're giving Dawn enough credit. I think she'd surprise us.

Agreed. Buffy and Spike are written wildly OOC in that episode. Actually, I could do without that episode existing at all.

Nice answers. Although, as horrible as it was, I wouldn't want to erase Seeing Red. We needed that episode. The AR was the catalyst that inspired Spike to make a change, and to fight for his soul, so he could be the kind of man Buffy deserved. It was intergral to his journey.

Also, regarding Xander, I think he'd surprise us with how accepting he'd be of Spuffy. Sure, he's make a fuss, and lecture Buffy, and he'd worry about the decision she was making...but I think, at this point, it's Angel that's on Xander's hate list - not Spike. Xander has changed a lot. He's become a lot more tolerant, a lot more mature, and alot more understanding. He and Spike are never going to be best buds, but I think since the Hellmouth closed Xander has gained a respect for Spike he didn't have before. As for the AR, I'm not sure what his opinion is on that now, but he knows Spike has a soul now, so maybe that colors his opinion differently of Spike. At the end of the day, Xander wants Buffy happy. If Buffy were to tell Xander Spike made her happy, he'd accept it. I know he would. 🙂

Lol, yeah. I sometimes wish Spike didn't hold his pride and just said he loved her back, maybe not to worry as well. But, then I think if it happened that way, Spuffy would have turned into Bangel. And one of the reasons why I love Spuffy so much is because it is not Bangel 🙂

I would. I trust the writers enough to come up with a different way to make that happen without rape needing to come into the picture. I never, ever wanted to see that kind of thing occur in my favorite ship.

As for Xander and Dawn being accepting, I think that's true. I think Xander grew by S7, which was evidenced by the way he only complained a little when Spike had to live with him again--and by that time, Xander had every reason to hate him. He wouldn't like it, but I don't think any of the Scoobies would really like it.

As for Dawn, I can see her making up with Spike off-screen, but I can also see her holding a grudge. I relate to the latter, because I hate a few guys who've done my friends wrong, even after my friends themselves have forgiven them. It's a sister/friend thing, I think, to hold onto that. I could see them eventually making up, though, with how much both characters have grown.

I have no doubt that Dawn and Willow wouldn't have taken too long to accept their relationship and the same could be said of Tara. Xander would have taken a lot more time because of what transpired in season 6 whilst i think Giles would never have accepted the relationship or perhaps it may have taken him instead of a month, a good year to feel comfortable with it.

It wasn't to Buffy, It was to the first but I think My Favourite has to be "She believes in me." It just makes my heart...I don't know how to explain the feeling I get when I hear that line it's just so...I adore it.

There are way too many to choose from So I'm gonnahave to choose all of them because I can't decide.

I definitely thought Tara would accept them, without a doubt she was so sweet with Buffy and then She was obviously fine with it because of her Jokes towards Spike about his 'Cramp' at Buffy's Party. I will always be sure that the least excepting would be Xander, then again Dawn probably wouldn't be too thrilled either.

4. If you could rewrite one Spike/Buffy scene in the series, which would it be? What changes would you make?

I already rewrote it. One of my First fics was re-doing the First Morning after, I made Buffy less of a Bitch and Spike less defensive. But I'd definitely choose the beating in Dead Things, It should never have come to that and I do hate how Buffy was in Season 6 with a passion because of how she treated Spike, You don't do that to someone when...You know what I'm stopping this rant before it starts.
