New Questions to ponder....

1. What's your top "tearjerker" Spike/Buffy moment?

2. Do you think the reason Spike didn't tell Buffy he was alive is because it would diminish the significance of his sacrifice, or is there another reason?

3. Was Spike/Buffy your first Buffy-centric ship, or did you ship something else before it (Buffy/Angel, Buffy/Xander, Buffy/Riley, Spike/Drusilla, Spike/Harmony etc)? What about Spike? Did you ever ship him with anyone other than Buffy?

4. How do you feel about Buffy's "Does it have to mean anything?" in "End of Days"?

Answer all or any - Add new questions too!

1. What's your top "tearjerker" Spike/Buffy moment? Oh geez. That's a toughie. If I had to pick one, I think it would be their last scene together in Chosen. It still gets me everytime. 🙁 Their scene together in Touched, with Spike expressing his love and then seeing them cuddle, comes in a close second.

2. Do you think the reason Spike didn't tell Buffy he was alive is because it would diminish the significance of his sacrifice, or is there another reason?

I think that's part of the reason, but I also think he was just scared. Spike had never felt that close with someone and he was terrified of what that could mean and even lead to. I think he even felt a closer connection with Buffy in the Hellmouth, when their hands interlocked. And he was shocked that he could feel that close with someone, especially with Buffy. So, I think he didn't want to spoil that feeling. He knew Buffy loved him, but based on everything with Angel, he had doubts. So, I think he wanted Buffy to always remember him as a hero and champion, who sacrificed his life for her and the world.

Regrettably, Spuffy was not my first Buffy-centric ship. I started watching Buffy from the beginning and did board the Bangel ship (I wasn't on the BB at the time). I jumped ship though in s3, when Bangel got too annoying for me. I never got on board with Buffy/Riley. I think for a while in s1, I was onboard the Buffy/Xander ship, but then I felt bad for Willow because she liked him (and I was that girl in HS who had a crush on her best guy friend, but he didn't notice). So, that ship for me didn't last long.

With Spike, I never shipped Spike/Harmony. I did ship Spike/Drusilla, even well into s5 with "Crush." I wasn't 100% onboard with Spuffy yet. I liked them together, but didn't see them as a couple. So, I absolutely loved that scene in "Crush" when Spike and Drusilla walk into the Bronze together (and still do). It seems like "old times!" Then, "Intervention" happened, which is like the perfect episode name for those who weren't on board yet with Spuffy. Stage an intervention and get their minds straight, lol! 😀 That last scene really got me and from there, I started to board the Spuffy ship 😀 "After Life" sealed the deal for me and from there, I was completely sailing Spuffy. 😀

4. How do you feel about Buffy's "Does it have to mean anything?" in "End of Days"?

I always felt that Buffy honestly didn't know what it meant when she said she was there with Spike. After Spike asks, "What does that mean," she says she doesn't know. And it seemed like she really didn't know. She knew she felt something, but wasn't exactly sure what or how strong. I think to avoid any further discussion of it, so she could maybe sort out her feelings, she said that line. I think Spike recognized that, which is why he said it didn't have to mean anything, at least "not right now."

Here's a new question...

What's your biggest pet peeve against those who don't like Spuffy? But, be respectful 🙂

For me, I just don't understand when people say Buffy didn't romantically love Spike. It's all there, especially in s7 🙂

when you talk about stage an intervention, made me laugh lol
My Answers...

1. What's your top "tearjerker" Spike/Buffy moment?
I always, without fail cry in Beneath You, the church scene, even though I've seen that episode like a million times. I love it - Buffy's reaction just get's me every time. I love it.

2. Do you think the reason Spike didn't tell Buffy he was alive is because it would diminish the significance of his sacrifice, or is there another reason?

Some people have great issues with the fact that Spike did not contact Buffy in season five of Angel - prior to the comic I used to theorise that he had contacted her, I had this whole theory that made sense (to me at least) but then I did this big analysis of Angel and it actually began to make a lot of sense that he didn't contact her so yeah, now I totally buy the reasoning given by the series. Plus, they had to make some reason why Spike would stay in LA didn't they - he was part of the cast and all and could hardly be popping off to Europe at the drop of a hat to catch up with the Buffster whenever he felt like it. And it has given us so much fun with al the "does she know, doesn't she know" debating that has been going on for the last three years. Can't wait for the next issue of the comic so that we can finally get some answers!!!!

I was a mild Bangel at the time of original airing but that was mainly because they were the only choice. But it ended the day Angel left town - I never mourned his departure or longed for them to get back together or anything like that. Spike I never really shipped with anyone. I liked Dru but thought she was incredibly fickle so was quite happy to hear that they had broken up in Lovers Walk.

4. How do you feel about Buffy's "Does it have to mean anything?" in "End of Days"?

I never really had a problem with it (again, I've read others who do) but I can sort of empathise with her confusion and I don't think she's being glib or being a bitch or anything like that. I thik she really did feel something special with Spike the night before but has bigger, more pressing matters to deal with that prohibit close analysis of what that meant...at that particular moment.

5. What's your biggest pet peeve against those who don't like Spuffy? But, be respectful

Each to their own I suppose . . . but yes, I hate it when season seven and even the positive aspects of season six (Yes, there ARE some positive aspects!!) get dismissed as unimportant or ignored because of the problematic aspects of season six.

StarSlayer
Totally agree about there being some positive aspects in s6, which tend to get ignored!
1: What's your top "tearjerker" Spike/Buffy moment?

Its hard to choose just one moment but i'll go with when Buffy cuts away the bonds in "Showtime". When he realizes its her, the look on his face combined with the look on Buffy, i just love that moment. I'am screaming inside he knows its not "The First", he was right "She Will Come". Magical moment.

2: Do you think the reason Spike didn't tell Buffy he was alive is because it would diminish the significance of his sacrifice, or is there another reason?

I think that pretty much hits the nail on the head. Maybe also he was scared to how she would react after seeing him alive after he saying "I Love you".

3: Was Spike/Buffy your first Buffy-centric ship, or did you ship something else before it (Buffy/Angel, Buffy/Xander, Buffy/Riley, Spike/Drusilla, Spike/Harmony etc)? What about Spike? Did you ever ship him with anyone other than Buffy?

Self confessed huge Bangel fan here and i still am. I think a major reason i like both Bangel and Spuffy is because Buffy's involved in both relationships. Both relationships deliver scenes which are so touching to watch and the chemistry within the relationships unfold brillantly on screen. Being a fan of both Angel and Spike adds to why i ship both.

Briley gave me enjoyment aswell. Not in the same bracket as Bangel or Spuffy though but i did not hate the ship by any means. Spike and Dru made me laugh and i think they complimented each other well but in my mind Spike loves Buffy a hell of a lot more.

For comic value Spike and Harmony was ok but i never took their relationship seriously.

4: How do you feel about Buffy's "Does it have to mean anything?" in "End of Days"?

I've never really thought about it. It didn't bother me if i'am honest.

5: What's your biggest pet peeve against those who don't like Spuffy? But, be respectful

I don't see what is not to like. My main grievance is probably when people say Spuffy consumed too much screen time in season 7. For me anytime i saw Spuffy in season 7 the dynamic was always so interesting and i loved seeing their story develop during that season. It was so entertaining and the idea that Spike turned ino a love sick puppy well wasn't he exactly like that with Dru and his jealousy with her and Angelus?

Good point. And I agree. When people say Spike turned into a "love sick puppy," or got Buffy-whipped, I'm like "really?" Did you not hear his speech about love in "Lover's Walk?" He's love's bitch 😀 He also tries to protect and stick up for the woman he loves. What's wrong with that?

Have you guys heard Love the Way You Lie by Eminem and Rihanna? I'm not at all an Eminem fan (or Rihanna, for that matter), but I can't get over this song. It's a really honest, heartbreaking take on a destructive relationship. I think it fits really well for Spike and Buffy in S6. I looked for Spuffy videos with this song, but unfortunately I didn't find any I really liked. I can just imagine the song paired with some of their rougher fights, like the one in Dead Things. Here's a link to the actual music video. It's incredibly well done; it features Megan Fox and Dominic Monaghan (from Lord of the Rings and Lost). The song is explicit, and the video is violent (though not more than we saw on BTVS), but it's really very good.

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uelHwf8o7_U]Here[/ame]

My favorite lyrics are:

"Yesterday is over, it's a different day,
Sound like broken records playing over,
But you promised her,
Next time you'll show restraint
You don't get another chance."

"Now I know we said things, did things that we didn't mean,
And we fall back into the same pattern, same routine,
But your temper's just as bad as mine is, you're the same as me,
When it comes to love, you're just as blinded."

Maybe our relationship isn't as crazy as it seems,
Maybe that's what happens when a tornado meets a volcano,
All I know is I love you too much to walk away."

Thoughts? Does the song remind anyone else of Buffy/Spike in Season 6?

Oh my gosh, yes! I've heard that song before (it's always on the radio), but never saw the music video yet. So, thanks for posting it.

And yes. The song definitely reminds me of Spuffy in s6, especially in those lyrics you pointed out. I also like these lyrics too.

"We're runnin' right back, here we go again
So insane, cause when it's going good, it's going great
I'm superman with the wind in his back, she's Lois Lane
But when it's bad it's awful, I feel so ashamed, I snap
Whose that dude? I don't even know his name
I laid hands on her
I never stoop so low again
I guess I don't know my own strength"

You're welcome! Those lyrics are definitely fitting too.
1. What's your top "tearjerker" Spike/Buffy moment?

The end of Intervention. I don't know why, but I cried the first time I saw it and I tear up every time since. Maybe I'm just so happy Spuffy became a reality. But I think it's also because that was when Spike's crush stopped being just a funny gag and became love. And Buffy saw that and appreciated it and it just gets my heart every time.

2. Do you think the reason Spike didn't tell Buffy he was alive is because it would diminish the significance of his sacrifice, or is there another reason?

I think it's because he was afraid of what would happen next. Would Buffy have moved on? Would they be able to have a relationship? Would there be room in Buffy's life for him? Would he still feel the same way? Would they have the same bond? Would Angel get in the way? All these little fears nagged at him and why risk that when the man she thought of when she thought of him was the guy sacrificing himself to save her and save the world because of the strength she gave him. He liked that image of himself and liked Buffy having that image. He didn't want to risk bringing a new, not so good image.

I still ship Bangel (hides under desk). They're my 5th favorite ship. I don't love them nearly as much as I love Spuffy, but they're in my heart. I also ship Fuffy hardcore. Spuffy's still my number 1, though. I actually didn't ship Spike with anyone. I'll do Spangel or Spander, but they're spots 8&9.

5. What's your biggest pet peeve against those who don't like Spuffy? But, be respectful
/QUOTE]

"It's too violent and dysfunctional." That's exactly why it works. Why it's real. And why it makes it so much more beautiful that they can get past it all. I just wish people saw that.

No matter how many people try to deny it, it is real ;-) Good point!
Thoughts? Does the song remind anyone else of Buffy/Spike in Season 6?

I agree, Kelsey, this is an excellent song.
I've gone back and forth on if I'm a fan of Eminem's or not. One one hand, there's no denying that he's an incredible artist and talented songwriter, but personally? I don't have much respect for the guy. He's sexist, and homophobic, I know he was once abusive to his ex-wife.

I was just watching this video earlier today, and yes, it definitely reminds me of Spuffy. I've love to have a nicely done fan vid to this song.

1. What's your top "tearjerker" Spike/Buffy moment?

When their hands clasp in Chosen and she says "I love you."
Also, in The Gift...the look on Spike's face when the Doctor is about to throw him over the edge. The look on his face is heartbreaking.

2. Do you think the reason Spike didn't tell Buffy he was alive is because it would diminish the significance of his sacrifice, or is there another reason?

I think he didn't tell her he was alive because he wanted her to remember him as a Hero, dying for her cause. Also, because he didn't believe she loved him, and he wanted her to move on have the life she "deserved." He didn't want her to remember him as a ghost, unable to affect anything. He wanted her to remember him as he was.

Spike and Buffy were the first couple I ever "'shipped." Thery're the couple that made me into a fangirl. They'll never be another couple I am more invested in. Yes, Spike/Buffy was my first Buffy-centric 'ship. I didn't mind her and Riley - until he cheated on her. As for Spike - I didn't like him with Drusilla, because I didn't like the way she took him for granted. I hated him with Harmony.

4. How do you feel about Buffy's "Does it have to mean anything?" in "End of Days"?

I don' like the line. It feels a bit out of character to me. It's non-committal, and it seems like she's blowing him off and being all avoidy. I would have liked to see him ask that question again and demand an honest answer.

I go back and forth being an Eminem fan too. I do like some of his songs, especially "Lose Yourself" but his personal life has made me lose respect for him.
I agree, Kelsey, this is an excellent song.

Oh, I'm not a fan. I think he's a rather classless individual, and I'm not a hugely impressed with his songs. I admit that he's talented, but it's just usually not my cup of tea. But for some reason, this song just gets me. Not because I've been in an abusive relationship, but just because it's very passionate and very honest, I guess.

I'd love to see a video! I can find a hundred Damon/Elena videos (who it doesn't really fit, IMO), but hardly any Spuffy ones. I was very sad.

So its time for New Questions and let's keep up the musical theme (Thankyou Kelsey!)

1. Thinking of the different phases of their relationship, are there any songs that remind you of Spike/Buffy?

2. Which song do you think was used to the best effect for Spike and Buffy (or Spike/Buffy) during the series?

3. Favourite song from Once more with Feeling?

4. Do you think Spike and Buffy would like each others taste in music? What about Art or Literature?

5. Is there a particular song that you think would make a great Spuffy fanvid?

Feel free to add any musically-inclined questions that occur to you 🙂

1. Thinking of the different phases of their relationship, are there any songs that remind you of Spike/Buffy?

As I said, Love The Way You Lie embodies Spuffy Season 6. I also always liked Addicted by Kelly Clarkson for that phase of their relationship. Here are some of the most relevant lyrics:

"It's like you're a drug,
It's like you're a demon I can't face down,
It's like I'm stuck,
It's like I'm running from you all the time.
And:
I'm hooked on you
I need a fix,
I can't take it,
Just one more hit,
I promise I can deal with it,
I'll handle it, quit it,
Just one more time,
Then that's it,
Just a little bit more to get me through this.

2. Which song do you think was used to the best effect for Spike and Buffy (or Spike/Buffy) during the series?
You know I.... really didn't notice which songs were used in Spuffy scenes. Strange, huh? I'm interested to see some other responses to this question.

3. Favourite song from Once more with Feeling?
Walk Through The Fire, definitely. Not just because of Spuffy, but this quote certainly shows Spike's suffering:

"The torch I bear is scorching me
And Buffy's laughing, I've no doubt,
I hope she fries, I'm free if that bitch dies!
I better help her out."

4. Do you think Spike and Buffy would like each others taste in music? What about Art or Literature?

I think Spike would relentlessly make fun of Buffy's music, and she would wrinkle her nose at his. I see Spike as being more into literature, but maybe Buffy could surprise him. He'd quote some really amazing poetry to her (because I'm convinced he knows good poetry, even if he can't write it), and she'd get all weak-kneed. Awwww.

5. Is there a particular song that you think would make a great Spuffy fanvid?
I would love to see Spuffy videos for the songs I mentioned in the first question, but I'd also love to see a lighthearted one to Lady Gaga's Monster. It's cute, and relevant! Oh, and Also Lady Gaga's song Teeth.

1. Thinking of the different phases of their relationship, are there any songs that remind you of Spike/Buffy?
Oh, well, let me just pull up my iTunes playlist here... that's not weird, right? Anywayyy... I really like the song "Right Here Waiting" by Staind.
I know I've been mistaken
But just give me a break and see the changes that I've made
I've got some imperfections
But how can you collect them all and throw them in my face

But you always find a way to keep me right here waiting
You always find the words to say to keep me right here waiting
And if you chose to walk away I'd still be right here waiting
Searching for the things to say to keep you right here waiting

2. Which song do you think was used to the best effect for Spike and Buffy (or Spike/Buffy) during the series?
Like Kelsey, no idea. I mean, I liked that Michelle Branch song played at the end of Tabula Rasa, "Goodbye to You," but I don't think it was necessarily for them, you know?

3. Favourite song from Once more with Feeling?
Rest in Peace, duuuuh! I nearly pee'd myself the first time I watched that episode. You'd think I'd be ashamed to admit this, but you know what, I'm not. It's a freakin amazing song!

4. Do you think Spike and Buffy would like each others taste in music? What about Art or Literature?
Music, no. I can't see Buffy going for Punk really. However, I'm guessing Spike, being the poet that he is, might like other types of music. I mean, where did he pull the inspiration for that tune in Rest in Peace? That, ladies and gents, was not Punk. And when I think of Buffy and music, I can't help but think that she'd be more into the Top 40, ya know? As for art, don't think Buffy would really have time to appreciate much art. Literature? Um, perhaps the classics? Gah, I'm all clever-responsed out...

5. Is there a particular song that you think would make a great Spuffy fanvid?
I think this song, "F*** Was I" by Jenny Owen Youngs works pretty darn well.

Love grows in me like a tumor,
parasites bent on devouring its host.
I'm developing my sense of humor,
till I can laugh at my heart between your teeth,
till I can laugh at my face beneath your feet.

Skillet on the stove is such a temptation,
maybe I'll be the lucky one that doesnt get burned.
What the f*** was I thinking?

and

Love tears me up like a demon.
Opens the wounds and fills them with lead,
and I'm having some trouble just breathing.
If we werent such good friends I think that I'd hate you.
If we weren't such good friends I'd wish you were dead

It may have the f word in it a few times, which, honestly, I don't mind, but it's pretty fantastic. 🙂

I have a Spuffy Playlist too :)
This is going to be tough for me... I'm not a real musically inclined person. But I'll give it my best shot!

1. Thinking of the different phases of their relationship, are there any songs that remind you of Spike/Buffy?

Katy Perry's "Hot and Cold" for s6, when Buffy's breaking up with him every other minute. I also really like Hallelujah for them in seasons 5/6... hence my sig. Oh! And A Fine Frenzy's "Almost Lover." Spike's perspective of s6.

2. Which song do you think was used to the best effect for Spike and Buffy (or Spike/Buffy) during the series?

I don't really pay attention to the songs in the background... the only one that stands out is "Goodbye to You," but mostly for the Tillow aspect.

3. Favourite song from Once more with Feeling?

"Something to Sing About" not really because of the Spuffy aspect, although that is nice. It just speaks very clearly to me. And it's catchy!

4. Do you think Spike and Buffy would like each others taste in music? What about Art or Literature?

Probably not, but not in a mean way. I see them teasing each other about it. At least with the music. I see Spike as into the hardcore stuff, while Buffy's into what's popular. I think maybe Spike could get Buffy into good literature... I can see them both really liking Wuthering Heights. I don't see either of them really having the patience for "fine art," though.

5. Is there a particular song that you think would make a great Spuffy fanvid?

I'm now really wanting to see one to "Almost Lover."

1. Thinking of the different phases of their relationship, are there any songs that remind you of Spike/Buffy?

Oh man. So many, lol! But, here's a few 🙂
-"My Life Would Suck Without You" by Kelly Clarkson
-"The Reason" by Hoobastank (from Spike's pov in S7)
-"I Never Told You" by Colbie Calliat (from Buffy's pov in S7 or even post-Chosen)

2. Which song do you think was used to the best effect for Spike and Buffy (or Spike/Buffy) during the series?

I read a thread a while ago that discussed the song that was playing when Spike first saw Buffy in the Bronze. "One Step Away" I think it was called. And the lyrics seemed to fit Spuffy well.

3. Favourite song from Once more with Feeling?

Probably "Walk Through the Fire." But, I really love them all 😀

4. Do you think Spike and Buffy would like each others taste in music? What about Art or Literature?

Maybe not at first, but Spike seems like he could get Buffy to like his taste in things. Like, she seemed pretty impressed with his taste in how he decorated his crypt. So, maybe she could get on abroad with his taste in music, art, and literature.

5. Is there a particular song that you think would make a great Spuffy fanvid?

Again, I have a bunch of them. But, there seems to be a lot of ones from Spike's pov, so I would like to see more from Buffy's pov or just about their relationship. But, I think "Beautiful Disaster" by Kelly Clarkson would be a good song choice (yes, another Kelly Clarkson, lol), or that current one called "Breathe" by Ryan Star. I like to see more videos that focus on the good in Spuffy 🙂

5. Is there a particular song that you think would make a great Spuffy fanvid?

So, I looked up that Eminem song "Love The Way You Lie" and it looks like there's quite a few vids that have been made already set to that song. Most of them are Buffy/Angel (even Buffy/Damon) but I did find one Spuffy one:

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQMOgycOcBc"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQMOgycOcBc[/ame]

And here's one that features Eric/Sookie, too (nicely done, too):

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fw8dBsoiWzI"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fw8dBsoiWzI[/ame]

What do we think? How does song fare in a fan vid?

I think the first one isn't too bad, but I honestly think more could be done. I really like the second one, even though it's short and just plays Rhianna's part. The Eric/Sookie was a nice bonus too 😀

And there's a Buffy/Angel video to this song? Weird, lol!

I think the song applies to Bangel, too, in a way. That relationship was/is dysfunctional and unhealthy as S6 Spuffy was, especially when you consider her interactions with Angelus.

S
StarSlayer
Yeah, that's true. Good point :) I guess I just see the song more fitting w/ Spuffy in s6.
Haha, I saw both of those, but I think a lot more can be done with that song. There are so many talented video-makers out there! I guess it does fit for Angel and Buffy too, but I like it better for Spuffy. Maybe just because I like Spuffy better, lol!
