Time for a Spunky new Spuffy thread!

These are our current questions:

1. Thinking of the different phases of their relationship, are there any songs that remind you of Spike/Buffy?

2. Which song do you think was used to the best effect for Spike and Buffy (or Spike/Buffy) during the series?

3. Favourite song from Once more with Feeling?

4. Do you think Spike and Buffy would like each others taste in music? What about Art or Literature?

5. Is there a particular song that you think would make a great Spuffy fanvid?

Feel free to answer these question or bring in any Spuffy-related topic to keep the discussion going.

Spuffy Forever!!

I forgot to mention this on the other Spuffy discussion thread, but I got into my first Spuffy and Bangel debate with one of my friends the other day, lol! I told her I got hooked on Buffy and she was thrilled because she was always a fan. But then, we found out that we differed when it came to Spuffy and Bangel 😀 We're still friends though 🙂

So, here's a question, since I'm still relatively new to Buffy...

Do Spuffies find that they tend to defend Spuffy more so than finding people who support them? For me, it really doesn't matter. I'll always defend Spuffy to the end 🙂

I still haven't decided which I want to ship(i might just do both lol) but I always find myself defending Spuffy and trying to explain to the others just how their relationship works. I've actually never met someone not on the net that was a Spuffy fan, which both saddens me and surprises me.

A lot of my friends love Spike to the death, but would rather kill themselves than see him with Buffy. Then I find myself yelling at them because they just don't understand!!! lol

I think I may just end up shipping Spuffy

1. Thinking of the different phases of their relationship, are there any songs that remind you of Spike/Buffy?

I always think of that song Smack My B*tch Up. I know it's a horrible thing to think of, but I just can't help myself.

Also, All Time Low - Six Feet Under The Stars

Some of the lyrics in particular that remind me of Spuffy:

Pass me another bottle, honey
The Jager's so sweet
But if it keeps you around then I'm down
^Always makes me think of Life Serial with Buffy pulling the funny faces at the booze, and Spikes little smile to her.

I'll take you out though I'm hardly worth your time
In the cold you look so fierce, but I'm warm enough
Because the tension's like a fire

Fall in the grave I've been digging myself
But there's room for two
Six feet under the stars

I should have known better than to call you out
(On a night like this, a night like this)
If not for you, I know I'd tear this place to the ground
(But I'm alright like this, alright like this)
I'm gonna roll the dice before you sober up and get gone
(I'm always in over my head)

It's a song I love as well, so it seems fitting!

2. Which song do you think was used to the best effect for Spike and Buffy (or Spike/Buffy) during the series?

As I have said before, I'm not overly a fan of any of the compositions used throughout the series, so none! I wish they had have used better stuff...

3. Favourite song from Once more with Feeling?
I really wish they had punked up Spikes song more. It sounded a little lacklustre for my liking. Especially considering Spike apparantly likes The Sex Pistols and The Ramones. It would have been much more fun to see a punk number in there. They could have had him playing guitar as well. One of those funny moments where it just appears out of nowhere and Spike gets a 'where did that come from?' look on his face. There could have been a funny reference later on in the episode to when Spike and Buffy said they played in a band together.

4. Do you think Spike and Buffy would like each others taste in music? What about Art or Literature?
I can picture Buffy liking some of the punk stuff. She would probably like stuff like poppier stuff like The Buzzcocks. I don't think Spike would like the dancey stuff that Buffy is into though! I have never really thought about what type of art either of them would be interested in. Although I seem to recall Buffy having a Lichtenstein photo frame in one episode, and I can imagine Spike liking pop art. Maybe they could travel to London together and go to TATE modern gallery, and then travel up to Manchester to watch some football together. I reckon Spike would like Camden, maybe they can stay there together!

5. Is there a particular song that you think would make a great Spuffy fanvid?

Spiderbait, Sunshine on my Window.

Would be awesome because it mixes up the heavy with the gentle. Would be great to cut between their fight scenes and their tender scenes. If only I knew how to make fanvids!

1. Thinking of the different phases of their relationship, are there any songs that remind you of Spike/Buffy?

This is my Spuffy playlist from my iTunes account:

I think I love you by the Partridge Family
Tempted by Duran Duran
Bizarre Love triangle - Frente (or New Order but the Frente version has a better atmosphere for Spuffy)
Torn - Natalie Imbruglia
Wicked Game Chris Issack
The lengths - the Black Keys
Here you come Again by Frente (or Dolly Parton, see previous explanation)
All these things that i have done - the Killers
Contra - Vampire Weekend
Somewhere only we know - Keane
night of my life - Damien Leith
Unforgettable Fire - U2
1000 miles - Vanessa Carleton
Love is the end - Keane

It sort of follows Spuffy through their many incarnations from Out of My Mind through to Chosen (and beyond).

2. Which song do you think was used to the best effect for Spike and Buffy (or Spike/Buffy) during the series?
Out of this World by Bush was fantastic - Buffy, Spike and the door. That song added so much mood to the scene. I love it.

3. Favourite song from Once more with Feeling?
Give me something to sing about is my favourite song from OMWF. It is a great song and I like how Spike comes in a stops Buffy from dancing till she burns. I also like Anya and Xander's song a lot.

4. Do you think Spike and Buffy would like each others taste in music? What about Art or Literature?
No. Probably not. I think she'd be into more popular stuff than him. I mean, come on - Wind beneath my Wings? really? He is right to mock her 😉 But then, she didn't like Cher's Believe so that wins her some credit. The thing with Spike is that I think he's probably fairly eclectic in his taste in music. There is this from the shooting script of Smashed:

Spike moves about the room. Organized. Preparing.

From a chest of drawers, he pulls out a stun gun, fires it a couple times to make sure it works. Sets in on a table.

From a trunk at the foot of the bed, he brings out a coil of rope, pulling it tight. Puts it on the table, too.

He rustles some more in the trunk, reveals a set of chains. And a handful of padlocks. And a pair of handcuffs. On the table.

He rummages through a stack of records, finds just what he's looking for: an LP of Roxy Music's Avalon. He pops it on a dusty old turntable.

He lights some candles, sets a bouquet of flowers in a vase, sprinkles rose petals on the bed. He looks around, taking in his handiwork, then lets out a long, contented sigh.

SPIKE
There. All ready.

So...who knows.
Not sure about Books and Art - I just think they'd end up watching a lot of television together.

5. Is there a particular song that you think would make a great Spuffy fanvid?

I made one for I Think I love You but it got deleted from youtube and I can't find the disk where i burrnt it so one day I would like to make that again or a big long epic spuffy vid to Love is the End because it is a big long epic song 🙂 I haven't made a vid in ages...

Do Spuffies find that they tend to defend Spuffy more so than finding people who support them?
Well number 1 - I avoid fights about ships. We're not gonna change their minds, they're not gonna change ours. I find the fanatical shippers (in both camps) very cringy when they really let loose. Number 2 - I mostly hang out in places that are Spuffy friendly - here, Buffy Forums and LJ so I can just be in Spuffy utopia and never have to worry about defending the ship. There are more of us Spuffies around than you think...

That's good to know. I did feel alone with my love for Spuffy until finding the BB 🙂 I also try and avoid shipping wars as well, especially on the internet because those can get pretty nasty. But, if someone starts one, I won't hesitate to jump in and defend Spuffy 😉

Same here, lol! I guess we can just see and understand the beauty behind the beast better than they can 🙂

Ok, so this is kind of irrelevant, but I watched Showtime the other day and I absolutely loved the scene where Buffy goes to save Spike, and he lets out that little growl when he touches her shoulder or something. It's so adorable! Spuffy love for the win!

The only song I've come across so far that I can associate with Spuffy is My Life Would Suck Without You. But now I'm on a mission to find more!

And I feel so happy to finally post something in the Spuffy thread! 🙂 I've been trying to finish S7 first. Almost there. Only 4 more eps to go. And I'm sad to think I'll have finished Buffy! I don't want it to ever end!

And, today at least, my favourite song from OMWF is I'll Never Tell, although it changes frequently.

AH, the last 3 episodes have amazing Spuffy moments! Hurry and watch! :)
I just realized I never answered the questions lol So here you are!

1. Thinking of the different phases of their relationship, are there any songs that remind you of Spike/Buffy?

Right now the only one that reminds me of their relationship is Eminem/Rihanna's Love the Way You Lie. It's too early in the am for me to think of any more lol But I will come back and add some.

2. Which song do you think was used to the best effect for Spike and Buffy (or Spike/Buffy) during the series?

I wasn't too fond of the music they added on their scenes, so I just made up my own 🙂

3. Favourite song from Once more with Feeling?

This is such a hard question to answer!!! I really can't decide between 'Rest In Peace', 'Going Through the Motions', under Your Spell', 'I've Got a Theory', and 'I'll Never Tell'

4. Do you think Spike and Buffy would like each others taste in music? What about Art or Literature?

I think there is a 50/50 chance. Music, yes. Art and Literature, maybe not.

5. Is there a particular song that you think would make a great Spuffy fanvid?

ummm hard to say right now. it's too early for me to decide. So far I really like 'Love the Way You Lie'.

One week to go untill Spike and Buffy reunite!! (and I don't mean that in a mushy space-frakking kind of way). I am so excited! Who is going to buy the comic? The board will down when the issue comes out but the moment it is up again I will be in here to discuss the event. God, I hope we are not disappointed. . . maybe I have my hopes up too high. 😉

I haven't read or bought any of the comics, but I'm getting that one ;-)
1. Thinking of the different phases of their relationship, are there any songs that remind you of Spike/Buffy?

Oh man, there are tons of songs where I get flashes of specific Spuffy scenes. The one I've always related to their relationship is Gavin DeGraw's "We Belong Together". If you read the lyrics, there are certain words and phrases that just fit their relationship perfectly, oh yeah and the main one of course: we belong together. 😛

2. Which song do you think was used to the best effect for Spike and Buffy (or Spike/Buffy) during the series?

Definitely the piece at the end of "Chosen", when their hands clasped in all the burning passion and fiery love. It annoys me to no end that in all the seasons we see Spuffy develop, they never get their own musical piece! Seriously. Does anybody else here think that a piece composed entirely for Spuffy would have been amazing? Especially if done by the great Christophe Beck!

3. Favourite song from Once more with Feeling?

"Under your spell".

4. Do you think Spike and Buffy would like each others taste in music? What about Art or Literature?

Oh man! Definitely would share some interest in music, but literature? I think Buffy secretly was a bit of a poet herself, I can see her relating to poetry so much considering her rollercoaster of a life and love-life. So, definitely could probably relate with literature. Art? No idea, but there was that one scene about Spike's crypt. Lol.

5. Is there a particular song that you think would make a great Spuffy fanvid?

I've seen just about every favorite Spuffy song of mine used in a video, so I can't pick a specific one! 🙂

I'm so stoked! This weekend I'm going to finish up the comics, get myself caught up before the next issue arrives! To be honest, I'm not really scared of being disappointed. I am nervous though, very nervous! I really hope JW keeps the spirit of Spuffy alive canonly, but we all know it'll never extinguish because of US! 😀

Yes! A Spuffy theme would have been epic!

I love this music too! If you watch the church scene in Beneath You the same music is used there too and If you listen during Smashed I notice that there are similarities between the music used in the 'bringing down the house scene' and the Chosen flamey-hands theme (I think - I'm not overly musical so I'm probably wrong...) But if that were the case then a Spuffy theme would have been around for longer than we supposed.

I went back and listened to the music at those parts and you're right. I think during that scene in Smashed, mainly when they are kissing, the music sounds similar to the music in Chosen. But the music sounds/feels more...how do I describe it...uplifting and inspiring in Chosen. Darn, I wish I knew if some of the same notes were used because it does sound like similar at some parts.

(I don't know how this could POSSIBLY qualify as a spoiler, considering the coverage that it has gotten on every even vaguely Buffy oriented site on the web, but just in case...)

WARNING!! SPOILERS FOR ISSUE # 36. STOP NOW OR BE SPOILED FOR LIFE!!!

Okay, so maybe our chosen ship hasn't been completely sunk, but it's taken definite torpedo damage and is taking on water rapidly. Do you still think that there's hope for Spuffy, or have the metaphorical baked cookies been delivered?

Personally, I STILL believe that, despite everything that Joss has said in interviews and articles of one type or another, he wouldn't willingly alienate the Spuffies, simply because we are such a large portion of the fan base. For that reason, for as long as he ever has any thoughts whatsoever of continuing the series, Buffy will never, unless under the influence of some outside force, completely commit herself to either Spike, Angel, or anyone else.

If, as Spike once said, and I pretty much agree, the Slayer ultimately fights alone, then I believe that the same principal applies to her entire life. The Slayer is meant to be, for the most part, alone. It's a rather bleak future, but, ultimately, everyone who Buffy knows and cares about will almost certainly betray or leave her, and there will be a few who will do both. If love is the Slayers' gift, then solitude is most certainly their curse.

I don't read the comics but i'm intriqued in terms of how Buffy reacted towards Spike. Were they distant? strictly professional? What happened?

I hated Buffy's demeanor towards Spike, and her little dialogue reference to us didn't really make me smile. I'll just forget about the comics if it gets any worse. I'd much rather prefer a sort of "stalemate" to a complete "write off" just because Joss is a huge Bangel. We all see what he did with Cangel.. but it's a bit too early, I'm just holding my breath.

I know it looks bad for us Spuffies but don't lose faith! I'm going to be Miss Psyco-pep-squad and try and keep us all optimistic here. This is the Back Steps, not the place for doubting!!

Seriously, we weren't expecting a romantic reunion so why be disappointed? yes she might have been a little nicer to him and to reduce Spike's sacrifice to a 'crazy studly' stunt was cold but, I really think this is Joss deliberatly going for the ant-climax for one of the most highly anticipated moment of season 8. Epic would have been cheesy. You couldn't have epic because he'd just done that with Buffy and Angel. Plus, plenty more Buffy and Spike to come yet... And Buffy and Angel are clearly being influenced by the Twilight Glow. I mean she called him 'baby' for craps sake! Our girl clearly is not in her right mind! But seriously, the Twilight influence seems to amplify feelings and make them forget things such as the destruction of the world and little stuff like that.

Now, there has been a lot of disenchantment in the Spuffy fandom over the past couple of days (and I've been reading it all over the place because we had no Buffy Boards) but I want you all to read this:

http://2maggie2.livejournal.com/24117.html#cutid1

It will make you feel better, optimistic even 🙂

Posting this in another thread made me realise that I meant to post it here, but didn't.

It's a Shipper Manifesto written by Lirazel - and it'll just remind you of why you love Spuffy all over again. And if any people who dislike Spuffy happen to read it, perhaps they'll have a better understanding of why we love our ship.

It's anything but love at first sight. Try hate-at-first sight: two enemies squaring off in an alley, then in a darkened high school hallway. She's the Slayer, a warrior of light Chosen to destroy evil. He's a vampire, conscience-less and reveling in bloodshed. For millennia, Slayers and vampires have hated each other, hunted each other, killed each other. When they meet Buffy has already killed countless vampires, and Spike's got two Slayers under his belt.

But it's not quite that simple.
...
Somehow they can't seem to stay away from each other: they keep being drawn back together by their own choices: every time you think they have parted ways for the last time, they meet again--Spike barrels back into town to get a spell to heal his broken heart, Buffy decides she won't kill him after he's been chipped, Buffy seeks him out after her return from the dead, Spike returns to Sunnydale after his trip to Africa.

Their relationship is, as Spike says, a dance, right from the very beginning. The steps of that dance lead them into many different roles and many different ways of relating to each other, none of which are simple or easy to categorize. They're many things to each other, but what they could never be to each other is insignificant, no matter how hard they try to forget each other.
...
She sees what he can be. No one else has ever transformed himself for the better the way he has, and she sincerely believes that he can be more. It's a huge moment, in which she sees him as a person--as a good man.

And finally, between her faith and his transformation, there's room for love to grow. Not the kind they had before, which, while powerful, was also always twisted by ugliness and pain, but real, selfless, adult love.

James Thurber once said, "Love is what you've been through with someone." And whoa, have these two been through a lot.

Now that he has a soul, Spike begins to understand the meaning of all they've been through together. He understands true selflessness and goodness and he falls even more in love with Buffy than he did before--he can finally appreciate the fullness of her goodness and light. When he has hurt and betrayed her so horribly, she finds the grace and compassion to forgive him, to believe in him, to take him in, and to fight for him and bring him close to her heart. She's overflowing with love, even if she can't verbalize it. But they never really needed words anyways, so he sees it in all that she does for him.

She's strong and compassionate and selfless. She's a hell of a woman. Of course he falls in love with her all over again.
...
What they are is real. Messy and complicated but true.

Love that! Thanks for posting :D
Grrr, I want my copy of the comic to come soon, so I can see for myself what's going on with Spuffy. I know I'll still be optimistic no matter what, but I need to see the details, lol! 😀

I also noticed some of the new skins for the BB. The "Spuffy" skin is awesome, but I'm really digging the "Fool For Love" one. It resembles Spuffy too 😀

Yeah... totally digging both skins. I'm using Spuffy because I like the blue... but I'm thinking if I ever get tired of it, Fool For Love will be my first choice.
