Buffy referring to Spike as her "dark place" puts me in mind of the balcony scene when Spike tells her that she "belongs here in the dark" with him. Not necessarily the most romantic moment in the Spuffy relationship, but certainly one of the most sensual and least destructive. I find it encouraging that she would still fantasize about that
As for the destroyed Scythe, it may be symbolic of the Slayer army and the entire Slayer line. We know because of the power of the Scythe in Season 7, the Slayer line was altered drastically with the formation of the Slayer army. We also know that, according to what the insane Watcher said, and the historical records from Fray's time seemed to confirm, the Slayer line ended, or at least was temporarily stopped, after the final great battle in what has been affirmed as Buffy's lifetime. It seems perfectly logical to me that the Scythe would actually BE the source of sustained power for the Slayer army and line, and therefore that army and line are destroyed together, to be both once more reborn in Fray's time.
As an aside to that, I would actually see it making more sense if, while the Shadow Men were responsible for creating the first Slayer, it was actually the Guardians who actually perpetuated the line just as they created the Scythe, making both line and weapon interdependent. In other words, as long as there was a possible need for the Scythe, there would be a Slayer capable of wielding it, and as long as there was a Slayer, the Scythe would always be there, ready to be used. I somehow doubt that the Shadow Men saw any need for the Slayer to have an automatic successor, planning instead to simply create a new one from scratch if the need arose.
