Spuffy #4 - General Discussion

Here we go guys, A shiney new thread for our Spuffy discussions!

In our previous thread topic under discussion was #37 and inparticular reactions to Buffy calling Spike her "Dark Place"

Also being discussed is the fact that Spike is absent from the final cover (#40) and what this might mean for Spike's future or indeed, the possibility that he is the betrayer.

Keep the Spuffy chat going - remember anything spuffy-related can be bought up in this thread, so...post away 🙂

Well the non-Spuffy fans I saw thought that "Dark Place" was pretty insignificant when compared to space-fraking and 'bestus-best-day' and 'you're the love of my life' *shrugs* Who cares? we like what we like. And some people will never admit that Buffy loved/s Spike

Very true 🙂 And, that's not Spuffy anyway. As much as I would love Buffy to tell Spike he's the love of her life, I don't need that to validate her feelings for him. For me, actions speak louder than words. The fact that she's daydreaming about Spike, even after that whole thing with Angel just shows that Angel doesn't have her whole heart 🙂

you know I completly agree. I mean i am more of a Bangel fan but as the show progressed and now I am reading the comments you can clearly see Angel DOES NOT hold all of Buffy's heart. Spike is in there, and he always will be.

Ok now I am here not to just put my insight on the above but to call all spuffy fans and ask for their help. Ok so I am trying to make some Spuffy banners seeing that is the most popular ship around here but I am lost on inspiration. Any Spuffy fans wanna help out and name some best Spuffy scenes I could use and maybe some lyrics that fit them. Just something to help me express the spuffy love, I am lost right now 🙁

I'm thinking maybe something along the lines of "used to be mortal enemies, now lovers". Not this quote exactly, just something that says that message. And you can put pictures of them then, and them now (or later than the then).

I meant to make a few banners with the lyrcis from Love The Way You Lie by Eminem, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. Some of the most applicable ones for me are:


"Sound like broken records playing over, but you promised her."

"Your temper's just as bad is mine is, you're the same as me, when it comes to love you're just as blinded."

"Maybe that's what happens when a tornado meets a volcano."

"All I know is I love you too much to walk away."

And then of course the chorus, which I like a lot for them. As for images, I pictured scenes from one of Buffy and Spike's fights for a lot of them, maybe the one in the house where they eventually get it on. For the chorus ("just gonna stand there and watch me burn") you could use screencaps of when he hangs on the cross after he tells her he has a soul.

For Banners you can find awesome Spuffy scenes in Becoming part 2, Something Blue, Superstar, The Gift, Afterlife, Once More With Feeling, Tabula Rasa, Smashed, Hell's Bells, Beneath You, Showtime, Touched and Chosen (just to get you started 🙂)

What I like about Spuffy is that it's non-traditional. It's not stereotypical romance and it is built on an evolving relationship that is never static. You can't have expectations with Spuffy because it always defies them!

Is anyone else slightly perturbed that Buffy refers to Spike as her "dark place"? I adore Spuffy to death and I'm so glad for those Spuffy-friendly panels, but I can't help being irritated that she says that. It implies that she's using him, and I think for most of Season 7, it was clear (to me, anyway) that the relationship was not one-sided anymore. IDK...I just wish she could see him more as a partner than just a "dark place".

See, I didn't see calling Spike her "dark place" as a bad thing, but actually a good thing. She first tells him that he was the guy she told things to that she wasn't suppose to. In other words, she said things to him that she really shouldn't be talking about or even questioning because she is the slayer. When I read that, I thought of "Touched," and how she told him things, like her fears and doubts, because she wasn't comfortable telling them to anyone else. That's what I get when Buffy refers to Spike as her "dark place." As a strong, heroic woman, she still questions herself and her abilities, but she feels comfortable around Spike to tell him these things.

Like StarSlayer said it, I see this line as a good thing me too ! I really don't think that we have to take it in a negative way. Scott Allie speaks about it very well in the recent CBR Interview :

Different people certainly have different ideas about the relationship between Buffy and Spike, but to me this thing about him being her dark place feels very consistent. That seems to be a very unchanging aspect of their relationship. She could share things with him that she couldn't share with anybody else in part because she knew she wouldn't be judged. And it's not just that he's "the bad boy." There's a real level of understanding between the two of them.

That's exactly how I understand this line ♥ And Scott Allie surprised me in a really good way.

I really love all the Spuffy panels in #37 🙂

I think you guys are turning me around! I mean, I love that she recognizes the understanding between them and embraces it. I so get that, and it warms my shipper heart. But at the same time, I also want her to acknowledge that he's more than just a dark place. I'll take all the Spuffy I can get from Joss & Co (the so very little they give, anyway!) but somehow I don't see the whole 'Dark Place' sentiment translating well into a happy Spuffy endgame. Then again, maybe I'm just way too cynical about all of this...I'm definitely super suspicious of Joss right now too!

IDK if I'm even saying all this right- feel free to ignore, lol. It's probably just my cynical self getting in the way of enjoying some good canon Spuffy. 😉

🙂 well my favorite thing about Spuffy is,Spikes love for Buffy. I mean Spike shows Buffy in so many ways he'd do anything for Buffy. He fell for her without a soul, and went and got one to prove his love to her. As I said I am more of a Bangel fan but to me I cain't deny I see it as spike shows his love for Buffy in so many more ways, and he sacraficed himself to save her and her world. Spikes Love for Buffy is pure and true and that's what I love about their relationship.

I may open this up to the BB, but I wanted to see what other Spuffies thought first 🙂 I've been reading a lot around the BB lately that although Spike loved Buffy, he's better off without her and should find someone else who treats him better.

Now, as a die-hard Spuffie, I completely disagree with that. Regardless of how Buffy treated him in the past, she was still the woman that inspired him to change and fight for the good side. If anything, he deserves her more after getting his soul and saving the world in "Chosen." Yes, Buffy didn't expressly state her feelings for him until the 11th hour, but she didn't dismiss him after he came back in s7. She helped him, made him strong again, and so on. I guess I just don't see anyone else better suited for Spike than Buffy, and anyone else better suited for Buffy than Spike 🙂

So, what do you guys think? Even if you're a Spuffie, do you think Spike is better suited for someone else?
