You asked what changed my mind. I'm not usually one for long responses, and this is one of my longer ones. If I'm replyign to Gun Gnome33's inquiry in the wrong place, feel free to move it if you are an administrator.

I think I used to ship Bangel because I loved seasons 2 and 3, and since Angel was such a pivotal part. I was always more nostalgiac in rewatches with Bangel as opposed to Spuffy. But after some thinking, I came out to thinking that Spike and Buffy were all about the passion between them, and I foudn their relationship so touching. So even while I found the Bangel story arcs pretty entertaining, while I was reflecting on Spike's journey and what Buffy and Spike had, I began to favor them. I also loved the lack of uneccesary drama inbetween them(Bangel had way too much drama), and how somethign just felt fresh and "right". Also, as a little extra note, Buffy's last five words of dialogue were: "Spike", "I love you", and "Spike" in Chosen.

This is basically how it happened for me, too! And I totally agree.

What caught my attention was the description of our couple: "By the time Spike & Buffy got together, it felt like a convenient plot device. The two never shared much sexual chemistry before but the writers made a valiant effort to make it work."

The introduction was written by stuff writer Jessica Kroeber - but her opinion didn't influence the results of the poll.

That would seem to be at odds with the fact that there were quite a few Spuffy shippers as far back as mid Season 5, and some even as far back as their first scene together in the Bronze. James Marsters himself has always said that, from the very first, he played Spike as though his character had a strong attraction for Buffy, far beyond the normal hunter/prey, Slayer/vampire relationship. Maybe the writers were the first to NOTICE what was going on, but that only shows that the Spuffy relationship was simply THERE. It never needed to be "created" by writers, directors, or producers.

Personally, I never saw a single episode before "Once More With Feeling," and I could immediately pick up on the fire blazing between the two characters.

[MENTION=6758]white avenger[/MENTION] - in hindsight, all the scenes in School Hard work as a foreshadowing of Buffy and Spike's journey throughout the show. I watched BtVS since the beginning and I first took notice in School Hard and I think I started to regard them as a possible couple since Becoming 2. Their scenes in that episode are pure gold.
