Spuffy Fic Recs #2

Since I figured out how to load fanfics on my Kindle, I've been reading a lot more fic than usual lately. I'm actually quite embarrassed by the sheer volume of fic I've read over the last month or so - if I made a list you'd think it was a reading list for half a year or something lol.

Anyway, I've been re-reading Niamh's series, 'Origins', an epic, very long set of stories. I'd recommend if you haven't already read, it's an interesting take on a post-resurrection fic.

Oooh, how do you load fanfic on a Kindle? I'd love to be able to do that on mine. 🙂

Actually, don't worry, I'll just Google it. 🙂

I'll answer anyway 🙂

There's several ways that I use, as not all of them work all of the time. First is a bookmarklet called Tinderizer, if you google that, you should find the site that lets you set it up. Then it's simply a case of clicking the bookmarklet on the 'view all' or 'print' page of a fic. Some sites, like Elysian Fields, doesn't process the conversion because of the age restrictions on mature fics, so if that happens I usually copy/paste the printable page to a document, create a PDF, then convert and load the story to my Kindle using the ebook program Calibre, which is a free download.

There's also Readability, which does the same thing as Tinderizer.

My fic-reading has increased significantly since I worked out how to load to my Kindle though, just a warning!

This is seriously one of the most awesome pieces of information that I have encountered in recent history!!!

My very first kindle is on it's way to my house in about 3 days. Should get it about a week after that.

I already read a completely ridiculous amount of fic and I'm sure this will just add to that but I'm even more excited about it now!

Thank you so, so much!!!!! 🙂

Ahhhhhhhh!

There is a new chappie of Dust up, in case anyone is interested. I know I am!

*goes to read

Edit: Yeah, that was awesome. And I'm kinda starting to wonder how awesome it would be if she wrote a William fic. I think my brain would melt from super amazingness that that would create.

Alright. My Desert Island Spuffy fics.

Dreamscape by Holly

I'm pretty sure she's taken it off of her site, but if you ask her for a copy she will probably send you one.
Anyway, this was seriously, the first Spike & Buffy fic that I ever read and there was absolutely no turning back after that. I read everything she wrote after that I've loved almost everything she's done. But I'd have to take this one, since as my first, it has such a special spot in my heart. 🙂

Dust by KnifeEdge

Yeah, for reals, it's not even done yet and I'd take it. I love where it's going and it always leaves me with a lot to think about. I would actually take it over West of the Moon, East of the Sun even though I really love that one too.

Tailored Encounters by I'm_Bloody_English

Yup. There's my guilty pleasure fic. All Human AU in which Spike is an . . . escort. And I love it. So there! 🙂

Forward to Time Past by Unbridled Brunette

Hey. I need some William in my life too. And this is pretty epic.

Boys Like Him by thatotherperv

Yeah and here we are at guilty pleasure part 2. It's set in the 50's and it's an all human AU. Buffy's the typical good girl and Spike's a greaser. It's just cute. And a good time.

Over the last few days I've been reading some of the newer fics posted to Elysian Fields. It's great that we're still getting such awesome stories from new writers. Most of these are WIPs, but definitely worth following. Those that I've not put a link to are the higher rated ones, but they're all on EF.

Distress Signals by PeaceHeather

After angering a demon who wants something from him that he can't give, Spike is left helpless and pretty nearly hopeless too. How can he expect rescue when everyone he knows has either died or thinks he's still dead himself?

This one is great, disturbing and dark but a really interesting read, hurt/comfort (though it's mostly hurt so far!)

Oh, Mr Wright by Angellia

Buffy is a free spirited traveller, Will is a stuck up fireman. When Buffy comes home for a family crisis, their worlds clash in all the best possible ways.

Fun all-human fic with lots of banter and sexiness.

The Way to a Man's Heart by Dorian's Kitten

Summary: What's a good girl to do when she's set her sights on a bad boy? One word answer: Bake.

Only a couple of chapters so far but this looks to be another fun all-human, where Buffy is the one doing the pursuing for once.

Leading the Blind by BloodEnvy

Season Five. Riley's just left town, and when Spike is gravely injured saving Buffy's life on a nightly patrol, he needs help. Buffy, indebted, takes the wounded Spike into her care. An angsty romance.

An interesting premise and promising start.

If you forgive me all this by Isha_rose

It starts with a betrayal- and not the one that you were expecting.

Spike’s been tossed around by the Slayer too many times to count, but this time she’s gone too far. Her ritual of self-congratulatory humiliation has made him a laughing stock, and it’s the final straw. They’ve never been friends, but she’s forgotten that they are enemies.

No more of it.

But then the Slayer is shot, and the culprit is a freckle-faced eleven year old boy with a vendetta and wide, wet eyes. He’s an unlikely villain and the Scoobies can’t face interrogating him so Spike is tempted in to play Bad Cop while the Slayer lies unconscious in a hospital bed.

“To forgive is an act of compassion. It's not done because people deserve it, it's done because they need it.”

Very intriguing fic that is a slow-release of answers and a nicely progressive Spuffy relationship.

Treading Water by aphasia

S6. Love, lust, loss, slapstick by the sea, monsters & moral quandaries.

This one's nice and completed, a fun post-resurrection fic with a great monster mystery.

Hello, everybody 🙂

I'm pretty much into fanfiction and I've saved a lot of links this and the last thread provided me with, but there are two things I'd like to know about (if someone would like to help me):

1. What does it mean that a story is/has "fluff"?

2. What rating are stories allowed to be when linked? Why are some ratings not allowed?

Hey, Marril96! Welcome to the thread!

According to FanHistory Wiki

http://www.fanhistory.com/wiki/Fluff

"Fluff" a piece of fan fiction that is light and fun to read, something which leaves the reader with a "warm and fuzzy" feeling.

The ratings this boards allows - G, PG, PG-13. Stories with stronger ratings can be mentioned but can't be linked. It's a precation because some of the members of the board are minors.

Okay, thank you very much for the explanations 😀 I wasn't sure about the ratings thing since here in Croatia we have different ratings 😀

So T rating is allowed, but nothing above it (that's the ratings on ff.net)? Just asking to be sure 🙂

Anyways, here are two fics I'm currently reading (both are from ff.net, but wonderfully written):

1. Blood Bound by DreamsofSpike

Rating: M

Summary: Early Season Four, Giles finds an ancient ritual that might solve their problem of what to do about recently chipped but notsoharmless William the Bloody...but Buffy gets more than she bargained for in the process...

My thoughts: It's a great story. The writing is amazing and detailed, but I must warn you: it contains some stuff younger readers wouldn't find comfortable reading about (I'm saying this even though I'm 15, but I've always been a weirdo, so yeah...)

2. Bruises by hulettwyo

Rating: M

Summary: All human/AU William is the new kid at Sunnydale High. Buffy is the cheerleader that watches him from afar and notices that not all is well in William's world.

My thoughts: I really like this one. It deals with some serious domestic abuse, bullies, fitting in and such. People sensitive about abuse shouldn't read this.

Just one more thing I have to say - none of the summaries is mine. They all belong to the authors who wrote the respective fics. I just copied it here. No credit goes to me.

Joan the Vampire Slayer
Joan the Vampire Slayer
Thanks for the recs!
New Chapters of My Elizabeth by Puddinhead are up (not sure on the NC-17 Linking rules so I didn't link it)

Looking for some good fic or meta from season 9 if anyone knows of any... I'll be sure to give a heads up if I come across some myself... looking at many hours on a bus this spring break and would love to fill up the old kindle 😀 (any good fic really)
