Then you're basically suggesting, not one single issue featuring everyone, but a group of interrelated issues, featuring various assorted characters, all operating in the same time line.
Nope, I'm not. Like I said, I'd like one issue per month following everyone (pretty much exactly what
Buffy Season Eight currently is). So we'd have exactly what we have now, and an additional 3-4 canon issues per month.
The main difference from what we now have would be that they are all simply published by the same company (Dark Horse, hopefully). I obviously misunderstood. That might work, but without "Joss looking over (all the writers') shoulders, or at least having significant input and control over the entire thing, regardless of the skills of the writers involved, quite a few people, myself included, wouldn't consider that to be canon, therefore not actually any more part of the actual Buffyverse that some of the better quality fan fiction.
Nope, that's not what I said. All I said was someone like Brian Lynch would be able to churn out pages without Joss standing over his shoulder. Meaning, Joss maps out the beginning outline in the writers room, and reviews the arcs before printing.
Your "fanfiction" comment might hold a drop of water if that wasn't how Joss produced the canon
Angel: After the Fall, Buffy Season 6, Buffy Season 7, Angel Season 1, Angel Season 2, Angel Season 3, Angel Season 4, and
Angel Season 5.
The main reason that I know this format would work from a storytelling POV, is that
Buffy Season Eight #5-9 could have easily been published under a "Faith" title, but instead we stopped seeing the Buffy character as a lead for half of a year.
Then
Buffy Season Eight #21-25 could have been published under a "Scoobies" title instead of cutting the pace and appearances of the Buffy character for half of a year.
And as I also said, the single character of "Batman" currently sees more than 5 titles, with:
Batman
Batman And Robin
Superman Batman
The Return of Bruce Wayne
Detective Comics
Batman Streets of Gotham
Batman the Brave and the Bold
Batman Confidential
Justice League of America
All being current books starring or at least featuring him. I see no reason why the entire
Buffyverse couldn't produce
half as many stories as the single character of Batman.
