Spuffybot...love it, hate it, let's talk about it

I love Buffybot. I found her hilarious. As a character.

If we instead look to the reasons he had Warren make her things look a whole lot different. Can I understand Spikes reasoning/feelings that led to it being made? Absolutely. I think most do. It does not make it any less creepy. It happening in a tv-show/fantasy makes it feel more ok though. Imagine it being possible in real life and it would be a different thing. Still there's gonna be people feeling/being lonely "wanting" something like it anyway. A mix between Buffybot and Scarlett Johanssons character in Her sounds ok to me. In fantasy.

I wonder if people would do that just to have some illusion of time with someone they lost - someone who died. I mean, people spend tens of thousands of dollars to get pets cloned.

I do think that portraying the Buffybot as displaying such childlike innocence, considering what her primary function was supposed to be could be seen as a bit disturbing, though.

But that's how Spike sees his ideal Buffy - not childlike and innocent, but open and loving. Kinda like Buffy before Angelus, without her various traumas. I really think he was making a bot that gave his Buffy less pain in her life. Her primary function was to love him, to be the idealized perfect Buffy. Sex was part of that, but so was sparring and slaying, and even talking.

I felt absolutely sick and horrified watching the bot get torn apart. It's one of the hardest things for me to watch on the show.

Yeah - that freaks me out too.

She didn't act that creeped out. And I really think she could have gotten the truth out of Spike, and I believe she knew it too. She wanted to find out what happened ,yes, and she did think it would be easier with the bot and that she would likely get a more candid response, but I have no doubt she knew she could get him to talk.

She thought he was a creep with a weird obsession, yes, and HE WAS...but she kept him around and let him hang around, and made use of him. If she really thought he was dangerous and creepy she wouldn't have. She could have staked him at any point, or simply ran him off and scared him enough to make him stay away. She felt confident that she could control him if she needed to.

Torture would yield what she wanted to hear, and she knew that.
As for the controlling Spike, you remind me of Angel constantly saying "I can handle Spike" and then physically moving him. I do agree - had Spike not shown such shame at being discovered then it would have been way different.

dunno...she looks pretty much creeped out when she encounters the bot.

She seemed even more creeped out that her friends didn't realize this was a robot.

Buffy probably concluded that Joyce was right, Spike is extremely unstable and he'd developed a dangerous obsession, and the wise and healty thing is to keep her distance from him.

Yeah - and then Joyce and Willow send her off to talk to Spike - alone - in his crypt. Now that creeps me out!

I'm not sure I'm comfortable with the creation the Buffybot. It doesn't matter if it's a sex-bot or a companion-bot, the matter of fact is that it resembles someone who exists. Someone who has the right to be offended and angry about it. Buffy clearly didn't look okay or pleased by the Buffy-bot.

Truth - in reality it would be freakin terrifying.
I can hear Buffy saying "Ewww". No wait, that's me lol. So I guess they're for more than being a passenger in the carpool lane?

I think that if you're going to spend as much for your new "friend" as you would for a good used car. you're going to expect a bit more versatility than just sitting silently net to uou in a moving car. More "bang for your buck," so to speak.

I guess I was thinking more about the bot as she was at the beginning of Season 6, after Willow had supposedly removed all the R, NC-17, and XXX programming from her system. Since the original program was Warren's version of "Nympho," with a few Buffy characteristics tossed in, that wouldn't leave a whole lot left to work with.

the things you learn on the boards.....very educational.

so I'm not the only one who noticed that? Buffy was disgusted Spike made it but not creeped out, I don't think those are the same thing. I would have been way creeped out if I found out someone made a bot of me, she just didn't seem that way.

Yeah - and then Joyce and Willow send her off to talk to Spike - alone - in his crypt. Now that creeps me out!

Hello! again, I'm not the only one who noticed that? yeah, I get the she IS the Slayer and could have taken him on...but come on gals, offer some moral and practical support. If you care and are worried don't let her walk into that alone, let the creepy stalker guy know that her friends are on to him and she's got back up. Even if she is the Slayer, heck she deserves to have her peeps stand with her.

I agree. It's creepy, and I'm uncomfortable with it. I don't think she was pleased by it, but she wasn't nearly as brassed off as I would have been. To be fair, when she found out there was zero time to address it and by the time there was he had proven he wasn't 100% reprehensible. STILL,

And please remember I love Spike to a bloody fault but Buffy's behavior while not in any way reprehensible is just plain weird. Even if Spike proved that his feelings for her are not entirely depraved, she still actually goes to the man who created a sex bot of her (she has no idea that it has other aspects to it) and not only doesn't give him a stern talking to, she KISSES him.

WT* Buffy?

I know that 99,9% of Spuffy fans think that kiss is the sweetest thing ever, but I think that she was messing with the mind of a guy who she knows has feelings for her, and she says she has zero feelings for and is disgusted by and has made a sex toy that looks like her, and she strolls in and KISSES him. Yeah, not the behavior of a woman who is totally disgusted and creeped out by him and wants him to cease existing and never to entertain any idea that she might have feelings for him. If someone can explain that to me in a convincing manner I will send you a box of chocolates.

I've had a stalker. He meant well, he fancied himself in love with me, he even did some very nice sweet things for me and helped me out in a pinch, but...my kissing him would have been the cruelest and stupidest way to "thank him". That's nutso behavior and the idea that...well, if he gets out of hand I can beat him up doesn't make it any less nutso.

So, either Buffy had feelings for him on some level, or she's a freaky sadist, insane or stupid. She is neither of the last three.

If someone made a bot in my image I'd probably be flattered. And then I'd report them to the police for being a crazy person, because if I'm the image of perfection, you've got some serious problems and should be detained.

That's why Spuffy is so perfect for each other, equally messed up. Also, perhaps Buffy was a little bit flattered that Spike wanted a buffybot. Grossed out sure but maybe kind of feeling appreciated and wanted too? We women are complicated at the best of times, and slayers seem to have more inner turmoil than the rest of us. 🙂 Buffy deals with gross stuff everyday, this probably barely registered with her. She seemed more grossed out feeding Spike warmed up blood in mug in the bathtub.

that's the vibe I get, she's disgusted but...maybe sort of flattered to. Someone used this analogy lately (sorry, I don't recall who so I can't give credit, but kudos to you if you're reading this)

It's like when a cat leaves dead mice with their heads cut off at your doorstep. GROSS...but they're cats and that's how they show they care. Spike is a majorly messed up vamp who's idea of wooing Dru is to torture her till she loves him again....he want to be a man, he wants to be romantic to Buffy, he can't so he makes a bot...maybe she gets that in his world, that's a compliment. Like he thought chaining her up till she professed feelings was going to work. Maybe shes like "that's just Spike".

And Xander is jealous If he was a guy who was standing up for his friend's honor, he'd have destroyed that bot the minute he found out what it was.

Dead mice - I love it!

If someone made a bot of me - I'd leave it home to do all the work, and I'd sneak off to Jamaica...😀

oh yeah, forget the crazy vampire sex.....sneaking off to Jamaica to escape work beats that every time!

I think I'd prefer the crazy vampire sex.....!! Not knocking Jamaica, but hello! Spike! Naked! Sexy time!

And rightly she should be, since this isn't the first time that "Buffy" has acted completely out of character (remember the body swap with Faith?) and they have wrongly assumed that it's the real Buffy doing all this stuff. Now, granted, they are pretty sure that Faith's locked safely away, and Buffy hasn't been nibbling on any band candy lately, but, still, someone in the group should have caught on more quickly.

I don't think she was flattered, she just developed a high tolerance concerning Spike... the main factor being that he was a vampire, and not a man. And right after the whole bot thing, Spike did something that, for Buffy, was huge: he protected her *child* (the monks did a hell of a job bonding Dawn to the Slayer). And as Spike was talking to the bot, Buffy knew he was being totally honest about it - and the whole Buffybot affair was forgotten.

OMG...the trouble I'd be in if my stuffed characters could talk...they know all my secrets. Spider-man and Appa could sink me.
