I've been having some problems with the PC. It seems i've picked up some spyware along the lines, and its really agressive.

I've tried ad-aware and Spyware search and destroy (something like that, it was Cordelia that gave me the link.) And they haven't helped any, they picked up the files in question, but once I deleted them and started it up again it came back.

There appears to be one file (that I know wasn't one of mine) that says it cannot be deleted as its in use.

Any ideas of what to do or some software that can help?

There seem to be a few alternatives to Ad-aware on Spychecker.com - it may be worth a look...

Perhaps other members can recommend which is best - I've only used Ad-aware myself. I take it that your copy of Ad-aware has had the latest update applied - I know it's something that I forget to do 'cos the version I have doesn't update itself automatically...

I'll check that out when i'm on the pc, and yeah I did update to the latest ad-aware.
 
I hope they work for you but my experiences with these pesky programs is to go into the dreaded registry and just remove it from there but that is tough as if you delete something you arent supposed to your computer wont boot. It comes down to a risk/reward scenario. If you are lucky enough to have the GAIN spyware installed on your machine editing the registry is easy. What operating system do you have?

I downloaded Spy Sweeper a couple of weeks ago, and it helped in getting rid of the majority of my spyware. Of course, there's the pesky ones that come bundled with other programs you download. Once you delete it, the program becomes useless. Kazaa is horrible for this. I don't know how efficient Spy Sweeper is, but it gives you a brief description of each cookie, adware, and spyware it finds on your computer, and what program it's linked to. Does the ad-aware program do this as well?...I'm not too familar with thier capabilities..
 
Before you delete the file in question hit CTRL+ALT+DEL and check if it isn't on the list of running applications or processes. If it's a in process, just hit end process, neglect the warning it gives you and then delete it.
