Star Trek-Phase II

I've never heard of ST: Phase 2, never heard of any of the main principal actors, nor any of the guest or recurring actors -- with the exception of the original ST actors and Denise Crosby from ST:TNG.

I'm going to watch an episode or two online and see what it's like...

Ok, I like the computer graphics for the ships and the special effects. The uniforms, sets, sound effects etc are all very, very good - authentic even. The usage of old cast members in the two episodes I watched were well implemented - as were the scripts but, and there has to be a but - I don't like the crop of actors being used.

I suppose that's mainly due to the fact that I'm used to the original cast of ST. Given time I suppose they'd grow on me, but Spock's facial features, his chin and those false ears don't endear me to his character. The actor playing Kirk just doesn't do it for me -- the character just isn't the same. Scotty's voice isn't right, neither is the actor. I could go on about the rest of the actors, but I won't - as even though I've mentioned three characters already, I really haven't watched enough to comment on the rest.

Overall I'd say it's probably not a bad show - the quality when streamed to my Firefox browser was excellent, no stutters, nothing. I'll give this 7/10 for now and after watching the remaining episodes will probably re-review this thread and update that score, but for now it stands.
 
Yeah, the unfamiliar actors in the old roles are a bit, heck a LOT, strange, and Spock was probably the worst looking of the lot. The sets, costumes, and special effects, though, were a real surprise to me, as well as the fact that people from the old show were even involved in it.
 
From what I've read they changed the actor who played Spock - the replacement is the brother of the guy who plays Spock in the latest movie (Sylar from Heroes brother) - can't remember his name right now and too tired to go check.
 
I bought the book years ago and hunted down more content for it online, I can't say I've been that interested in it though and I prefer the Motion Picture Era we got for Trek (mostly for the expanded content over the years).

I heard a fan group was moving from emulating TOS to PII. Nice to see them going ahead with it, but I'm more interested in another group doing their own version of TAS based on another ship, they have that down perfectly, PII never had a style of its own.
