So I was wondering, anyone else watches/used to watch Star Trek?

I practically grew up with it. My Dad used to watch the original Series so I've seen a few episodes of it (though I don't remember much of it), my brother used to watch TNG really hardcore (he claims his interest for physics was rooted there) which I only watched when I was already a little older. We also watched DS9 (and TNG) when I was in elementary school and I'm pretty sure I've seen a lot of episodes but there I really don't remember ANYTHING. The new enterprise I barely ever watched, maybe a total of 5 episodes.
But my favourite was always Voyager. It started airing when I was only 6 years old and ever since that I've watched it. I'm pretty sure I didn't really get it until I was at least 9 but I still enjoyed it and definitely had my favourite characters.

The best episodes were probably all that involved the Borg or time traveling, though there were also other great episodes. I think my favourite is 'Shattered' from s7 of Voy.

So what are everyone's thoughts on Star Trek?

I was around for the original series. My mother, of all people, got me started watching. She always thought Spock was the sexiest thing on TV. (I've always wondered what she would have thought of Buffy's two vamp boyfriends, which one she would've chosen. She always liked her men tall and dark, so she would have probably done the unspeakable and chosen Ol' Broody over Spike.

Somewhere among my old vinyls I've got a 33 1/3 of "Mr Spock's Music From Outer Space," and an autographed two record set by Shatner. I even saw Roddenberry live on stage in Atlanta when he was still trying to get the first movie made. God, I feel old!

I was bordering on hardcore trekkie during TNG, also liked most of DS9 (both of those series I've got complete on VHS, so, yes, there Trek even has the advantage over Buffy in my video closet...). Data goes toe-to-toe with Willow as my favorite TV character, ever.

I've also seen all the classic eps (except "Patterns of Force", which to this date never aired in Germany) at least once, but only really liked Spock and Scotty there, and I've seen most of Voyager and have it taped-from-TV till around S3 or 4, but felt disappointed by the series as I came to consider only the Doc and Seven (and Tuvok, from time to time) to be really interesting characters and couldn't bear Janeway's "here's the moral of the ep in two minutes ranting" at the end of way to many shows...
Of "Enterprise", I only watched a handful of eps, couldn't relate to it much and was Trekkie enough to go nuts over all the continuity thrown out of the window.

While I do enjoy most of the subsequent Trek series', I'll always be faithful to the original. It was probably the first sci-fi I was ever introduced to as a kid, and it kicked some. Still does.

And come on, tell me it isn't a hoot watching Captain Kirk macking on female aliens. 😛😛😛

While I do enjoy most of the subsequent Trek series', I'll always be faithful to the original. It was probably the first sci-fi I was ever introduced to as a kid, and it kicked some. Still does.

Just as luck would have it, we're currently cleaning out one of our closets, and I found some of my old Star Trek stuff: the Hallmark Christmas ornaments of the original and Next Generation "Enterprises," the space shuttle with Spock's voice Holiday message, the Klingon Bird of Prey, and, last but not least, a "U S S Enterprise" shaped telephone (folks used to give me all this stuff all of the time).

Did anybody ever hear Leonard Nimoy sing "The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins?" It came out literally DECADES before the movies were made.

Maybe that's why I like Voyager so much. It wasn't the first Star Trek show I had seen, but it was really new when we first watched it and I came to grow up with everything. I mean, really, I remember having a crush on Tom Paris in elementary school and later admiring 7of9.


And funnily enough, Kirk and the females is close to the only thing I remember from the original series as I've seen it as a child. Well and there was this one episode I've seen when i was about 5. I don't know why this one in particular, but it's the only one I really remember, like, plot wise (not only flashes). In this episode the Enterprise crew was on a planet where everyone who reached a certain age got this strange disease and died (after becoming really ugly and going crazy). Well, and I remember one of the women of the Enterprise complaining to Kirk about her formerly so pretty legs and how she was suffering from the disease. Well they (or the doctor, forgot his name) then found an antidote and cured everyone.


And what, there are Enterprise shaped phones??!?

Hey White Avenger, remember the Animated Series?

That one got utterly, utterly ruined in German synch. They didn't give Jack for what the eps were really about and tried to make it into cheapass comedy... Imagine Kirk sitting on the bridge telling lame jokes to the crew (in the total shots not even minding that another char's head was making talky movements when "Kirk spoke"). I kid you not, it's sad but true. Sitting through more than 5 minutes of that is pure torture.

Remember the first inter-racial kiss ever shown on TV? Kirk kissed Uhura. I remember reading somewhere that Roddenberry never was happy about the way he had to do it, though. He said that there wasn't any romance involved in it. Aliens took control of their bodies and MADE them kiss. Roddenberry wanted it to be more like a man kissing a woman SHOULD be, but the sensors wouldn't allow it. That was also why Vulcans did the finger touching thing instead of kissing. The sensors wouldn't allow inter-SPECIES kissing, either.

My parents were both into the original series (my mum especially), but really I only ever got into Voyager (although I did watch quite a bit TNG over the years). I could never sit through the original shows (although I did quite enjoy one episode when I think Warf and a few other crewmates ended up on the original Enterprise... think it "took place" during the show with the tribbles? I think that's what they were called!). I wasn't a huge fan of DS9 or Enterprise either, I guess coming from Voyager I found them somewhat lame in comparison (always was waiting for them to encounter to Kazan or Species 8472 :silly: ).

Think I liked TNG because of the characters, primarily. Think all of the actors really did an awesome job with their roles, and the show was just something that you could always be entertained by. Voyager was just that much better-- you watch enough of it and you feel almost like you're in the show. And I thought the whole storyline with them being in the Delta Quad. was a really neat twist. Somewhat dissapointed that we never got a Voyager Movie mind you, was really upset when I found out the 2009 flick was taking place in the Kirk era. I suppose that we found out basically what could happen in the series finale anyway, but all the same I would have liked to see the crew together one last time. They really were a tight-knit group it seemed.

Favourite episodes were probably the ones (like SS) that involved time travel. Really liked the finale, the one with Kess (when she comes back for the last time) and the one with Seven of Nine on the timeship. And I really like the episode when the crew is all asleep too, that was pretty cool (or oooh! The WW2 episode! 😀).

If I had to pick one? Seven's time travel episode, no question 🙂

Deep Space Nine is by far my favorite series. I loved how the characters developed and the arcing storyline. Not every episode being a one off, I never liked one off, one off, one off. For me long epic story lines are what's worth watching. DS9 had alot of that. Enterprise I actually liked alot. The only Trek series I don't love, is Voyager. Hated Jayneway, everything else seemed to fall apart for me around that. Only reason I'd go watch it all a second time would be for the other characters. To me Jayneway could have gotten nearly every single person back to safety day one. Since that didn't happen every decision she made was bad. haha. Anyways. I love Star Trek and Voyager wasn't half bad, but DS9 is the best series Star Trek had to offer.

Oh my yes, been a big Trek fan for many years now. If anyone wants to chat (at length haha) I don't mind. Bare in mind I like TOS more than the rest and tend to be a technobabbler.
