I've noticed alot more Star Trek chatter on the boards recently (probably in relation to the movie, its in peoples heads) and I was wondering what series people liked.

Star Trek
I didn't actually see this until I was about 17. I love it but because its not my first, I find that it has dated pretty badly. Have you seen that fight scene with the Gorn recently? Blooming terrible.
Still its stories and its heart and soul are great.
City on the edge of Forever is great to watch, if a little hokey.

Star Trek: The Next Generation
This was my first Star Trek. I absolutely loved this. Picard is magnificent as the Captain. Data is one of my favourite Trek characters period. I had the BIGGEST crush on Dr Beverley Crusher but the only character that pissed me off more than Wesley was Deanna. How could someone so boring have been born from Lwaxanna?
Ohhh I also must give credit to Q - what a wonderful character.
Sadly the first couple of seasons are dated BUT once you get to Best of Both Worlds, it picks up.
BoBW by the way is probably my favourite 2-parter of any TV show ever

Star Trek: Deep Space 9
On first viewings alone I would have argued that Voyager was my favourite series BUT now with hindsight, constant repeatage and DVD, I think that DS9 takes it for me. Its just a remarkable idea for Star Trek PLUS it finally gave Chief O'Brien the starring role he deserved. It also gave us another two of my all time favourite Trek Characters - Quark and Garrack. Garrack steals every single episode he is in.

Star Trek: Voyager
I do love Voyager. I have a few favourite characters from Trek that at best equal 2nd place but my absolute favourite character in the history of the verse - EMH Mark 1 aka The Doctor.
He was just a wonderful character and Robert Picardo was great.
B'Elanna was fiesty (adult crush on her) and I don't mind admitting, Janeway could have ordered me to do anything.
I liked Seven of Nine but she never became a favourite for me.
The Year of Hell, seeing the crew fighting and not winning has to be a favourite too.

Star Trek: Enterprise
It took my second viewing of this for me to begin to like it.
It wasn't bad the first time, it was just a little annoying. I mean OK it was back to basics BUT when you've had a collective 30 years of transporter technology, you don't care too much that they don't have it.
I did like Phlox though and Archer was pretty decent.

Star Trek: Movies
I'm not gonna mention them all because, well there are too many.
I didn't like The Motion Picture BUT I did like Wrath of Kahn, Search for Spock and Voyage Home.
I will say though, my absolute favourite Trek Movie was First Contact. Brilliant.

So, what do you guys thing?

If you could make a crew up using characters from the shows, who would you do?
I'll post mine in a bit.

Edit:

If you're gonna vote at least say which one and why!

OK, my ideal crew

Captain - Picard. It was close between him and Janeway BUT I chose him because Stewart is a Yorkshire man.
First Officer - Sulu. I think he would make a great 'Number 1' and my love for him and George Takei has only risen because of his stint in the Jungle.
Conn - Cmdr Data. I could sit and watch him all day, especially if he is trying to whistle 'Pop goes the weasle'.
Science Officer - Seven of Nine. Do you NEED to ask why?
Security - Odo. He is a wonderful character.
Doctor - EMH Mark 1 The Doctor...umm, duh.
Nurse - Chapel - the original and best🙂
Chief Engineer - 'Trip' Tucker. Not only is he Human BUT he actually brings people down to earth.
Chief In charge of Transporters - Chief Miles O'Brien...you need an O'Brien on your ship!!!
Barkeep - Guinan for her sage advice.

ANd what vessel. Well as much as I love the Enterprise, I would have to pick Voyager - it just looks sexier.

I grew up watching the original Star Trek with my 'rents. Gotta luve William Shatner. I like the fact that it looks dated, the stories are the best, I love all the characters.

I seen every episode of TOS, TAS, TNG, DS9, VGR and ENT, all 10 films and read loads of the books and played nearly every game.

I started out watching TNG when I was little and discovered TOS through repeats and watching the movies randomly, watching everything that after that.

But overall TOS/TAS and the early movies are my favourite, followed by TNG, DS9 and the later movies. The two newest series were just...laughable at times and to me are really not great.

And don't get me started on this supposed "prequel" because I have no idea whats going on with that thing. The only thing I like so far is the Kelvin, shes simple, and pretty. The rest *shrugs*.

Okay, first of all, lovely thread.

Then....is there seriously any question which Star Trek is my favourite? 😉

I've seen most of them (although I barely recall anything from Deep Space Nine and the Original Serien, but I kNOW I watched them at some point, but it's jsut so long ago.

TNG I appreciate, but it's never been my favourite. Oh, but funny story. You mentioned Deanna, counsellor Deanna Troi. Picard always called her counsellor (which is her work title), and for some odd reason my Dad thought that was her actual first name 😛 See, that's what yu get when you dub German but leave all these fancy English job titles, haha.

The movies I haven't seen that much from, mostly the TNG ones, and there the First Contact one was outstanding, while the last one was just plain boring.

Enterprise I've only seen a few episodes from, but it did look promising. I might watch taht next properly.

And now my absolute favourite.....Voyager 😀 Come on, I gre up with that show. It started airing in Germany when I was about 6, and from then on I already watched it. The characters and everything had a deep impact on my childhood. Like, I totally used to have a childhood crush on Tom Paris (he's still cute), idolized Seven of Nine, wanted to be like B'Elanna....and oh, in my young years I was already a total shipper of the Torres/paris relationship 😛 Seriously, I remember that one specific day when I was like 10 years old and excitedly telling one of my friends (who had no idea about star trek) how Tom and B'Elanna got together, the whole story with them adrift in space and everything 😛 See, that's dedication. Voyager is like the one show I constantly watched, fom childhood on til now. Everything else I watched before I was about 13 is meh now, but not Voyager. And that's really great how such a show can stay with you over all these years. And it was also quite educational. Not one of these shows that made violence look good or anything.

Did you just copy/paste what you wrote on my wall about Voyager?

Her voice was sexy!!!!!

I must say, I prefered the relaxed hairstyles for all the ladies from season 3.

B'Elanna looks better with curls, Kes (though annoying) looked better with long hair and Janeway was far sexier with her hair down rather than up.

Ohh and in the Hirogen 2 parter set in WW2, how sexy was Seven of Nine as a Lounge Singer!!!

didn't B'Elanna have the curls in s6?
why thank you (i adore you even more) i mention her voice to most people and they scream in horror at how horrid it sounded.. well she's awesome.

i do love all star trek (enterprise not so much and i found that harder to watch)

and i can always see why the fan love for seven of nine (not so much myself... but i can certainly see why)

I'm a sucker for dominant but feminine women. Janeway has balls of steel BUT never loses her femininity - even in her Action Movie episode, Microcosm where she runs around the ship fighting giant Buglies wearing only a vest...hot!

I like Seven and she was hot when she let her hair down but I wasn't big on her AS Seven of Nine - the outfit was just obvious and too much. Having said that I wouldn't kick her out of bed for farting!

Jean Luc - the thinking woman's crumpet (along with Jeff Goldblum, but that's another story.) He was the best captain no doubt. The most authoritative, respected and rational Starfleet officer. Loved him. You are right, Deanna was a drip and the whole Riker thing got on my nerves. Lwaxana kicked ass. She was funny, eccentric, vibrant. Loved and hated Q simultaneously, but if you were omnipotent and could cause a bit of trouble when you got bored, you would be too. Could have slapped Wesley silly.

What is it the Peggster says about Star Trek films?
"It's inevitable, just as night follows day, sure as eggs is eggs, just like every odd-numbered Star Trek movie is shit.'' I am in full agreement, but as a fellow Bristol alum, I would be!

Not entirely convinced I agree.

While the worst episodes have been odd numbers I do like some of them

Apparently given out too much rep in the last 24 hours - which is a first - but my gosh, I've only repped about 15 people!!!

Anyway I wanted to say I agree and have Picard Love too.

I should probably mention I've been watching all of the TOS movies this past couple of weeks lol, and spent half the morning playing Encounters on the PS2...

I watched Undiscovered Country night before last, I really wish one of the actresses to portray Saavik come back as planned, as much as it would have been a character assassination I would rather it had been her than Valeris, she just didn't seem right.

And Kirk's little 'Hitler' rejoinder to the Klingons showing off of their Shakespeare, classic.

Yeah, mind you its the only time, other than Mannequin, when I have been able to watch Kim Cattrall and not vomit.

I find the end of UC a little hokey but generally its fine.

I love the autographed ending too.

I'm a Voyager fan! I saw Generations when it came out, but wasn't too impressed. I saw First Contact when it came out also and I was blown away. But 1998 is when I first started watching tv and my brother mentioned there was a Star Trek show and I had no idea it was a tv show. I watched it (5th season) and I loved it.

TOS can be good at times, campy at other times. I haven't seen that many TNG or DS9 episodes. I never liked the Enterprise's characters, but the plots of the 1st season were good, so I watched the first season, but then the plots sucked in the second season, so I stopped watching.

Watched Voyager when it came out. Seen every Voyager ep, every TOS ep, and most of Next Gen. Seen first two seasons of DS9, hate Kira and Sisko and Quark. Well, I hate Ferengi in general. 😉

Favourite ships would be the classic Enterprise (No bloody A, B, C or D), the Enterprise E, and the Voyager. Voyager's especially beautiful. 😉

My favourite is TOS, then Voyager, then Next Gen (discounting things such as Encounter at Farpoint... fell asleep during that 😉), then DS9. I've seen some Enterprise, and hated every minute of it.

Bored by Motion Picture, Loved TWOK, Was okay with SFS, Loved VH, Hated FF, Loved UC, Liked G, Loved FC, Liked I, Liked N.

I'll have to think about the crew, but I do know the engineer will be Scotty. 😉
