the first 3 star wars set the standard for state of the art special effects...effects that would revolutionize the industry...

now that 2 star wars have been unveiled...the special effects are good...but not great...not revolutionary....

as the matrix 2 comes out in a couple of weeks with even more revolutionary effects than the first...

don't you feel that george lucas didn't give star wars the revolutionary special effects treatment it deserved?? Eventhough he own Industrial Light and Magic...a top notch special effects company....

it seems like the only good decision he made was casting Natalie Portman as the Queen/Sen....cause she hella hott...
 
??? I found Epi 2 very good, and he may not have used all the same sort of special effects as seen in the Matrix, but then agian, you don't have to, he has his own style, I liked it nevertheless ... Yoda vs. that Darth Lord is going to be in my memory forever!
 
that part was the WHOLE movie...all the rest was un needed...

eventhough that scene was cool...it wasn't first starwars revolutionary or matrix revolutionary
 
No, it wasn't though I must admit, I haven't seen StarWars Episode 4 ... just 2, I know, shame on me!
 
I love star wars the new ones are alot better than the older ones just because of the technolgy used to make the new ones, i love Padme she is HOT!!!!
 
I am a huge Star Wars fan. I love the original trilogy, and I love the newer ones as well. many people I know think that the new movies are too different in the special effects department than the original movies to be liked, but really, you have to realize that since the times when the first movies were made, things have changed. George Lucas can do all of the things that he wanted to do when he was making the originals.

Now, to the topic at hand. Just because the original trilogy set new standards for special effects, that doesn't mean that the new movies have to do that as well. Lucas wants to make these movies like he's making them, deal with it. He knows what he's doing. Just sit back and enjoy the movie. It will give you some real insight into the original movies. And listen for the sutble jokes and hints he puts into the movies to foreshadow the originals. The Matrix is good, and deserves to have the spotlight now in special effects department, but don't forget, the story is more important than the effects.

the matrix storyline...only one movie long...is more complex with symbols and themes than any one of the star wars movies...by the time the third matrix movie comes out...the storyline will be twice as rich with complexities...i can go over the themes and symbols...if ya weren't observant enough to figure them out yourself...

and regarding starwars...the last movie spent like a quarter with that horrible fleshing out of annikan and padame storyline...rolling in grass meadows?? hellla gay

For just this once, this indeed was "hella gay"!

And looking at both SFX, character development, storyline, themes, subplots, themes and such ... the Matrix wins on all those fronts!
 
The fx in Ep 2 I think are revolutionary in that they arent trying to make fx anymore, the technology is so vast now that lesser fx companies can do the same the ILM did on Jurrasic Park, to look
at the purely digital format of EP 2 is to see where the future of fx is going a more blended enviornment where the cg's arent supposed to be noticeable. Take the Arena sequence is a vastly complex series of cg layers blended into one sequence that flows as if it was always there. I think that ILM is doing exactly what Lucas always intended his company to do, blend the unreal with the real so elequently that we dont even notice any major differences.

One final note great fx or bad fx your right the bottomline is the storyline, I am not ready yet to dismiss Star Wars as being less complex a story and the Matrix which only has 1 movie as being more, when they the next 2 Matrix movies come out and the final Star Wars movie comes out thats when the flood gates of debates can happen, though my money will be on Star Wars.
 
the layering of the crowd was good...but who cares...being the best in crowd technology isn't the illest special effects...

your money may be on the star wars...but i bet the matrix reloaded will break the clones $310 million mark...easily...it may even break the opening weekend record....

can anyone tell me any symbols that occur in star wars...
 
If you want to watch revolutionary special effects, watch LOTR The Two Towers. George Lucas's hamfisted destruction of the SW Universe doesn't come close.

seems like you missed the point of what I was trying to say about making fx blend completly in a movie so that it looks like its real.

I dont know about all this symbols stuff, what exactly are you looking for.

of course it will beat the Star Wars box office, so what, spiderman grossed a fortune and it was a disaster of a movie.

finally, while I agree with the earlier posting regarding LOTR as very good fx, they are but again they certainly arent anywhere near what ILM can do,
 
i'm talking about imbetted themes that make movies deep...since you conceeded that the matrix reloaded would beat star wars at the box office...the only way for star wars to compete with the matrix is in the depth category...

i don't know star wars that well...i'm looking for someone to tell me about the complex symbols about star wars...good vs evil doesn't count....if ya can't come up with any themes or symbols...maybe yall is making a shallow movie into a complex movie..,
 
Soulgasm is correct in that the first 2 are not complex there just entertainment. But watch the 4-6 ones and youll notice a lot more 'depth' especially the use of the force. But Yoda v darth lord was the best scene in any movie. And spiderman is atrocious, and i was almost sick when he climbed up to the american flag at the end.
