stars and charities

ok so i was thinking about this today and i wanted your opionions(sp)

why do stars do charity events?

I think most of them do it because they believe in the cause...

Most of the time I think celebrities do charities because somebody they know has been through a certain experience or has died from some disease... otherwise they probably wouldn't bother. But there are a rare few that are so touched by a cause that they know they are doing good and what they're doing to help people feels right. Angelina Jolie comes to mind. She knows that she has all this money that she couldn't possibly need or even want... so she makes it useful for people who need it - and she loves what it does for others.

I think all of the above. Sure they believe (or at least some do) that what they are campaigning for is good. But next to that, whatever way you turn it, it IS good publicity, and their manager WILL like that. I believe most are true to the cause, but there are definatly also stars that just do it for the fame!

I think it depends on the celebrity. Most do it because they care about the cause. For instance Ewan McGregor goes to great length to help out CHAS (Childrens Hospice Association Scotland). They build hospices's for terminally ill children. Ewan was gutted one year when he couldnt make it to a conference so did a video link with them and they asked him to come and cook them all breakfast. And true to his word he came over and made it (and burnt it) he did a charity premiere of the latest star wars movie and all the proceeds go towards CHAS. Its really a big thing up here.

I think they just want to give something back.

i think that...some stars may just do it for the publicity...but i think that most of em are really genuine about the cause they choose to back...i mean most people if they had the money....would give back to the community...and enrich it...
