For Iceland.

There has been 1,200 reported earthquakes in the last 24 hours, all of them small ones.
Since the end of October there have been 23,000 very minor ones.
Are they building up for a larger one or will there be a large volcano?
 
I thought you were going to say something about the store.

Emergency declared: Iceland is out of pizza!
 
The number of reported earthquakes has dropped, there has only been 2,000 in the last 48 hours. Iceland is apparently on a volcano watch.

Iceland is in a bad spot at the moment. All indicators show that one of the nastier volcanoes (cant begin to spell its name) is about to erupt. Suburbs of Reykyavik have been evacuated. Now everyone is in a holding pattern. From my experience with CA wildfires - waiting just SUCKS!!!!!
 
From what I have read, it's not expected that this eruption will cause much disruption beyond the immediate area, and I hope not too much damage even there. People may remember the eruption of Eyjafjallajokull (I love that name!), which caused problems with air travel world wide in 2010. An Icelandic eruption in the late 1700's caused lower temperatures and ruined crops in Europe for several years. So they can be severe!
 
I know natural disasters are common, and volcanos due erupt at some point, but it seems those disaster scenarios just keep getting more and more frequent these past years...
 
If you watch the migration of the north magnetic pole, which moves at 45 km per year away from Canada and toward Siberia. The speed was up to 55 km per year until recently. This has to affect tectonic plate movement. It is no surprise that something would happen after the undersea volcanoes east of Japan and the Philippines went active again and gave us another El Nino year. Each movement brings about another and the earthquake cycle that started in 1936 and accelerated in 1958 is going to continue.

Pole movement may be the reason for global warming rather than human effects. After all, we are still not up to the temperatures from 1000 years ago when Norse settlers in Greenland grew crops of rye. You can't do that now - it's too cold.

Feel free to to ascribe to any deeper meaning but when I read that I instantly thought of the I Ching.
when the Way turns back all things turn back with it. Turning back is how the Way moves.
 
ERUPTION!!!!!

The Icelandic volcano the I cannot pronounce (nor spell apparently) ERUPTED last night!!!

The good news - LOTS of awesome pictures & videos of Lava shooting into the sky & a blood red sky & apocalyptic landsapes.

The GREAT news - NO CASUALTIES OR DAMAGE REPORTED. No guarantees this great news will contine.

The Bad news - huge amounts of toxic gases released. Large areas off limits.

So....things seem to be going as good as could be expected. Icelanders know how to deal. Many tourists are signing up. No flight disruptions (so far).
 
That was a long time between evacuation and eruption. This thread was started Nov. 11th! I'm glad people didn't sneak back for a view like they did with Mt. St. Helen. Dozens then got caught in the explosion and ashfall.
 
You know what would be weird?

If, after all the evacuees suffering, Iceland made money off all the tourists coming to see the eruptions and lava flows.

Watched CNN, the visuals really are awesome.
