It seems like this attempt at succession is pretty similar to the last one America had. The Fed wants to tell the states what they can and can't do (beyond the scope of the constitution, ie the code that says what they can and cannot control), and the states don't want to hear it. Last time it was about the right of the fed or the states to say if you can have slaves (and obviously other stuff), now its about who has the right to say you need healthcare (and obviously again, other stuff).

As an outsider, (I live in Australia). I think the whole situation is very funny. The people that signed the petition, I take it they are all Romney supporters.

Actually, from what I've read, they're protesting the entire electoral system, not just who was elected. Of course, there obviously are a large number of Romney supporters there too.

Like I said, I expect these petitions are more steam-venting than any real desire to break up the union. Right now, you could probably get 700,000 Americans to sign a document declaring that Obama is secretly a Sith Lord who eats babies at all three meals.

I WANT to be able to find this funny, but it really disturbs me. I don't think my view of politics will ever be the same after a research report I did in college in the 90's on hate groups in the US. With how they wax and wane in direct corellation with which party is in the White House I am literally terrified. I can't manage to see all of this vitriol without really contemplating how much of it is related to the color of Obama's skin. There ARE legitimate things to complain about regarding him, but so much of what comes up all over is irrational at best, and blatantly racist at worst.
I'm confused about people being upset about the electoral college, though, since he won both the college and popular majority? Maybe I'm missing something?

If they are, the electoral votes just represent what the state has voted on. It just speeds things up. Obama won the electoral votes and the popular vote.
I must say, I haven't heard as much in a few days. However, I haven't really heard that it was in regards to the electoral college but in a disliking of how the federal government has handling things. In some sort of vague disappointing way. I am sure we haven't seen the last petition following an election..😎
