Stephanie Meyer - Was Twilight Plagerism??!!

Just because you can do something doesn't mean you always should do it. I'm sure no one minds constructive posts but the bandwagon of haters in every thread that even mentions Twilight is somewhat tiring.

Oh and I haven't seen it so can't comment either way. 😛
WE ARE FILLED WITH SUCH VITRIOLIC HATRED THAT NOTHING ELSE WILL DO

Yeah, well I vehemently despise Connor and the idea for the Connelia relationship, but you don't see me going into the Angel forums and CONSTANTLY badmouthing everything about those two things in every single thread the characters are mentioned in. Maybe I should, though, to get my point across about how annoying and rediculous this crap is becoming. Just because you have a right to do something doesn't mean you should do it every chance you get. I mean, I have a right to do a lot of things in the US because of the way our constitution is set up, but it doesn't mean I will for the sake of doing so. And I never said you CAN'T say how you feel; it's just that stating the exact same thing over and over again in many different threads gets tired really quickly.
No, it really is. There is a jovial aspect to the Bangel/Spuffy debate, but this one actually has upset members (I think it was HisMrs that said in the other thread that she would have to pull out of the discussion because she didn't wanna risk losing friends over it because what they saying was rather contentious). There seems to be a great divide over this with very little common ground.
Al is so right... The people here who actually like Twilight have actually been verbally attacked about it. That, in itself, and according to the rules of this board is wrong and shouldn't be allowed. I mean when someone says "If you like Twilight I have to question your intelligence" that is a slap in the face and a direct insult to the ones of us here who actually do like it, and it needs to be dealt with.
I'm just so sick of all the hate. Fine, you don't like, that is cool, but stop acting like the ones of us who DO are mentally challenged.

OH and another good point to bring up is that I am a member on a board for Twilight lovers and they don't allow this kind of bashing of other projects (like Buffy) to go on. They feel it's offensive to the fans of both, and I think the same kinds of rules should apply here.

Who knew we'd find common ground over a subject that, ironically we have a completely different opinion of - I detest the books, but I would never question your intellgence based on your liking it...I have other posts to do that with :p

Just dont go into the threads. I know you can say "but I should have the right to go into the threads I want...blah,blah" but be the bigger person.

I have all four books, read them each 10000 times. I have a "Team Jacob" t-shirt as well as a key chain (plus for my sisters I purchased tshirts, backpacks, posters - if they make it, they have it). I stood in line at 9pm until 12pm to get the dvd I could have purchased the day after (at a reasonable time) and saw the movie 7 times in theatres, one of those times by myself.

I think that gives me the right to complain about all the "Twilight hate" on these boards. But it's not going to change anyone's mind, just like they won't change my mind about the fact that I like the books.

They keep going because they get a reaction from people.

I'm trying to be the bigger person, but it's just really hard 'cause they're being so rediculous over it.
Nobody's insulted anyone other than Stephenie Meyer in this thread, which is about 'Twilight' anyway. To be honest, the most offensive turn that this particular thread has taken is "I don't think Twilight is plagiarised, because it's rubbish."

Its not that people dislike the books/film, nor is it a matter of staying out of the threads.

The last thread was started with discussion on people liking/disliking and giving reasons, then it turned into people making silly comments that finally turned into members questioning the intelligence of those that like it (FYI - not me! The questioning intelligence that is...I know, I'm shocked too!).

If you (meaning anyone) don't want to see it, don't go into the threads about Twilight. Complaining won't make people stop.

So its OK for people to actually attack members of this board (and believe me, questioning the intelligence of other members is an attack - I've had enough warnings to know that) as long as those members stay out of those threads?

I'm not buying that one.

No one should come to Buffy-Boards and have to stay out of threads, particularly threads of interest to them, because someone is attacking them.

...

Hmm, where did I say that?

I was commenting on HisMrs statement that he/she (sorry, I forgot to check!) is tired of reading the numerous comments about people bashing on Twilight and thinks that if it gets worse, that the topic should not be allowed to be discussed.

I said that if HisMrs doesn't like to read people's bashing comments on the books, to avoid the threads about the books.

I didn't condone the mis-treatment of any members at any point. The direction the thread(s) may or may not have taken are under the responsiblity of the moderators. If it got out of hand, it would have/should have been something they took care of.

HisMrs is kind of a give away to the sex of the member, don'tcha think😛

You, however, didn't direct the comment towards HisMrs, you replied to me and said 'anyone' then told 'anyone' that if they don't want to read it stay out of the threads.

This thread is proof that people don't want to discuss it properly so why should the members who want to discuss it stay out?

Why not the ones that seem to just want to attack something that alot of them admit to not reading/watching, stay out of OR better yet, just make Twilight a 'no go' topic on this forum. This isn't a place for free speech, so it doesn't change its 'Mission Statement' if we stop certain topics of discussion, especially when it so obviously upsets some members.

It probably wasn't plagerism. I mean, let's face it, if you're going to steal someone's idea, why THAT idea?

I'll bet the short story was better. Anything is better than that mediocre drivel she calls a "series."

Ok, I am so damn sick of seeing all the freakin Twilight hate on this board. WE GET IT. You hate the freaking story. NOW STOP BASHING IT OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

END OF RANT.

Well, speaking for myself, Blondie Bear and others; it's hard to resist poking fun at Twilight. It's just so easy.

In response to "If threads like this continue, I think it should be made a rule that Twilight cannot be discussed here, 'cause the same things are being posted over and over again and it's damn tired"...Well, this is sort of a unrealistic claim. Isn't that what we do on here? Discuss things over and over, argue and interpret, specualte and analyze? Also, new members join daily, and they want to get a word in, too. Nothing wrong with that. I understand your frustration (I'm assuming you're a "Twilighter") but we're all entitled to our opinions, friend 🙂

Er, sorry? I just thought it was interesting that she was geting sued. We do like to talk about current events on here. But now in light of Looking Glass' post, turns out it was all a rumor. Sorry to start something up, guys 😉

Interesting. I'm certainly not insulting your intelligence for reading Twilight. Please don't group all us whom are critical of Twilight in the same category. I read all four books. Just after careful critical thought I've come up with my own opinions on the series. That's what I do. I read things and critisize and form opinions about what I've read. All the power to you if you enjoy the series. You're awfully personally offended, don't you think?

I don't think it would be a good idea to restrict any topic on this board. Can't see that going well.

Even if that opinion is 'I question the intelligence of the people who like it'?
As far as I know, I have never cast aspirations on the intelligence of people who like Twilight. If anything I have said gave that impression, I apologize. I don't think people who like Twilight are stupid. Everyone has something they love that other people hate, and vice-versa. I personally hate ad hominem attacks and try to avoid making them. And I get just as offended when people imply that because I don't like Twilight I'm an idiot. I've seen that happen in Twilight threads, as well (and elsewhere on the net, people are receiving death threats for teasing Twilight. No lie).

I lurv you, Brit-brit!

Great post, Blondie Bear. I agree.
I would agree that saying you question the intelligence of someone only because they like Twilight is extremely rude. I don't believe I've ever said that. And if I did, I was probobly drunk and joking.

Believe me, not all the stuff I read is intellectual, by far. I LOVE reading Anne Rule true-crime novels, and really bad Western romances, which are pretty much on par with Twilight, only written in the 18th century. We all have our choice of escapist literature.

Ummmmmm - already happens here and I should know, I've had enough 'This topic isn't suitable for this forum' and the forum stills manages to run.

Well, but doesn't that usually happen with sex-related topics or when people are swearing? A subject like this wouldn't be restricted I don't think.

HisMrs is kind of a give away to the sex of the member, don'tcha think😛

Pfft, who am I to judge?

You, however, didn't direct the comment towards HisMrs, you replied to me and said 'anyone' then told 'anyone' that if they don't want to read it stay out of the threads.

Yes - stay out of the thread if you're (meaning anyone) just going to complain about people continually voicing how much they don't like the book. It's not going to change.

This thread is proof that people don't want to discuss it properly so why should the members who want to discuss it stay out?

If you (meaning anyone) are just going to complain, you're (meaning anyone) just adding to the problem.

In a perfect world, yes. But if it really does "so obviously upset some members" then why don't they just stay out of those threads?

Pfft, who am I to judge?
Aren't you the Princess of the Universe or something - if anyone can judge, I'm sure its you😛

In a perfect world, yes. But if it really does "so obviously upset some members" then why don't they just stay out of those threads?

But again, there are a few people that wish to discuss it, so when a thread opens up the few go in and start, then the naysayers come in.

Should the people who want to discuss it but don't want to get caught in the belittling comments just have their say, when the attacks start move to a new thread and start again or should they just not bother discussing it so that its not an issue?

Yes I AM personally offended. How would you feel if you said "I really like Buffy" and a LOT of people on a posting board started talking about how much they hate it and how unoriginal it is and how stupid the characters are and then someone said (AS MESKETET RA DID) "If you like Buffy I have to question your intelligence" and then other members started agreeing with that statement? I think anyone would get a little miffed over that.
Just because you happen to dislike something because it's not your idea of what's right and wrong or good in literature/film/pop culture/life does NOT give you the right to make other people feel that if they like it, something's wrong with them. And anytime Twilight gets brought up on these boards, that is what happens, no matter what direction the thread starts out in. This thread started as a mention of the fact that someone was supposedly suing Stephenie Myer for plagiarism (which is completely false, by the way, and should have been checked out before the thread was posted), and suddenly the thread becomes all about "mindless drivel" and how ignorant and unoriginal the series is. Which, by the way couldn't be farther from the truth. There is nothing else out there like Twilight, which is why I love it so much. Regardless of whether you like something or not, you should still respect the opinions of other members. I disagree with the Twilight haters, but I would never insult someone's intelligence just because they don't agree with me, or constantly rub my opinion in their face to try to make them feel bad for not agreeing with me, and that is what is going on here, and I'm not the only person who feels this way; I'm simply one of the few who has the balls to step up and say something about it.
I know I can't stop posts like this, but I feel that as part of the job, the moderators should. That's my opinion and I'm entitled to it. And it doesn't make me WRONG if you don't agree with me, so stop acting like it does. I've had a few people on this board I consider my friends post this suggestion, and that stings, but whatever. If you don't agree with me, that is fine, but it's not OK for you to disrespect me and other people like me. That is what I'm saying. And because there ARE other members who are just as offended but too shy to say anything about it, that's why I feel Twilight should be banned from being debated/discussed here, 'cause some people don't know how to show the proper respect/professionalism when doing so.

Um, I don't see where MR said that people who like Twilight are stupid. Do you think you could find that and quote it for me? Cause I looked all through the last thread and I'm not seeing it.

Aha. Well, all I can say (as others have) is that if people/topics are annoying/offending you, just stay away from those people/topics. *shrug* Or if you must read them, take a deep breath and resist the urge to start a flame war. That's what I do.
