Still a Buffy fan 10 years from now?

I've been a fan, almost consistently since I first watched season 3 back in 1999, I think it was. The reason it sticks with you is that it has so many layers to it, there is so much to discuss and unearth by rewatching and thinking over it. There's so many directions to take the story line off in to and the characters as well are all so realistic as if they have a life of their own.

Obviously you can't just keep rewatching it constantly, but at many different stages in life there is something to learn from Buffy, and even when I get to a stage of not watching it as much I will still remember it keenly and will continue to defend it's importance to me from other people and promote its importance to other people. So definitely still a fan in ten years I think, just probably a diffent type of fan, looking at the show from a different perspective. 🙂
 
I just became a fan (2010) and I don't think I will ever stop loving the show and comics, there's so much content. For now I will re-watch my DVD's (have all of Buffy and Angel), one day I hope they will release Buffy on Blu-Ray (I don't care how much money it costs lol!) and the conventions are always something to look forward too
 
I hope so. I think it will be down to how it's handled in the next few years. If the comics continue in a season format - season 9, 10 etc. Hopefully they'll tie things together well and the show will reach a satisfactory ending. As it stands season 8 has done more damage than good to the show for me, for instance I watched season 1 of Angel recently, and I really don't like his character anymore .. so that's kind of a problem 😀. I didn't like season 6 originally either but I accept that as a necessary part of the show's history now and can enjoy it. Hopefully that will be true of season 8 as well but we'll see how future stories play out. If they get worse, I probably won't be that big of fan and will wish it had ended at season 7.
 
I've been a fan since about the time the DVDs started coming out, since I missed it the first time around. (I blame my parents.) I'm still a fan, but in a different way; I analyze a lot more than just sitting and watching.

As for 10 years from now, I hope to apostrophes I'm still a fan, because as soon as I drop 16 more pounds, I'm getting the B tattooed on the back of my neck. 😀
 
I've been a Buffy fan for only a year and a half. I would still consider myself a fan of every other show I've loved, from Star Trek: The Next Generation through Battlestar Galactica, but no other show has inspired me as much as Buffy. It's the show that got me to join message boards, make fanvids, and write fic. That probably means that it's going to have some longevity.
 
"BtVS" holds a very special place in my heart. High school was a rough time for me... While I wasn't overly unpopular or anything, I was very lonely a lot of the time. Out of my entire group of friends, I am the only one who never had a single boyfriend in school.
I fell in love with Buffy in the second season. I had seen a couple of episodes of Season 1, but it wasn't until I started watching the Willow/Xander love story unfold that I got sucked in. My heart ached for Willow 'cause I was in her shoes all through high school, and Xander reminded me so much of my best guy friend and crush that it was scary. So I started watching and haven't stopped since. After I got into the show, I realized how smart the writing was, and just how amazing and complex all the characters were and I fell in love with all of it.
The show is more than just a show for me. It's all those nights I spent in my room alone while all my other friends were out on dates or at parties my dad wouldn't let me go to. It's all those times I consoled myself from another social rejection by saying "These writers get it... I so know what that character feels right now." It's all the times I took fashion cues from the show because I didn't have a mom around to help teach me how to dress or how to look cute. It sounds really stupid, but this show seriously helped me through high school. If you took away the monster-of-the-week themes, I could totally identify with a lot of the plot and that meant a lot to me. Sad? Yeah, probably. But it was my life, so this is why the show is so important to me.

I really watched the dvd's during high school a lot everything you said is so true. You can relate to the characters so much.
I will still be a huge fan and I can say i will still re-watch. It is a show that I won't ever grow out of as I get older. I also think it will hold up well against time. The DVD's are still selling at the stores I go to.
 
I only started watching the DVDs in 2010 and I'm really sad I didn't pay more attention when it was on TV. I watched a few times, but didn't allow myself to follow it. Since I basically just started and haven't even finished the series yet, I'm pretty sure I'll be a fan in ten years. I love shows that you can relate to the characters. The only other show that has inspired me to go to message boards and write about it and meet other people who love it was a show called The O.C. It was on from 2003-2007. That show, the writers made me want to be in that environment. They made me want to watch each week to see what was coming next and they made me want to interact with others who loved it. So far, thank God for Buffy. This show gives me those same feelings and I have always been fascinated by Vampires, so that is just an added advantage for Buffy. I also am a sucker for teen soaps and dramedies. All I can say is, Buffy, where have you been all my life. The funniest thing is, when I was on theocinsider commenting on that show, there was a guy who always posted, comparing O.C. to Buffy and telling me how I should watch Buffy. I've lost touch with the guy, but he would be proud of me today, as I have finally gotten on board. If he was around today, I would just tell him, he was right. I love Buffy! I'm glad to be a part of this site.

10 years is such a long time and more things than you think will probably change during that time. Even if it's difficult to believe now. 😉 I highly doubt that I'll start hating it or anything, I'll probably still have all my Buffy/Whedon stuff but I have no idea how active fan I'll be or active at all. I haven't watched Buffy in two years but still consider myself a fan. Hanging around here sure helps a lot with that though so who knows how what happens if I ever stop coming here. For me being a fan mean that you're in some way involved in the fandom and I'm not all sure that it'll be the case in 10 years time.
 
I can say without a doubt I will still be a Buffy fan, however I don't think I will be as actively a fan as I am now. I probably won't be in forums or be constantly recording re-runs on the LoGo & Oxygen networks. I'll still have my Buffy DVDs of course and when I get sad or lonely or just plain old miss Buffystuff, I'll do a re-watch every couple of years.
 
I think even in 10 years from now, I'll still be a Buffy fan. I just don't think anything will change how I feel about the show.
 
I'm pretty steadfast. Few books/Tv-shows/movies make it into my liking but those I do like pretty much stick with me. And then I read/watch them over and over and over again...

So in 10 years - will I watch Buffy like I do now? Maybe, I don't watch it anymore like I did ten years ago (which was ALL the time) so my fan-flames have certainly cooled but that's only natural.
Will I still love it? Yes.
Will I still watch it? I do believe I'll still do re-watches then. Like I do now with Buffy, with Twin Peaks, with my favorite Disney movies or Big Business etc...

Will I be part of a fandom like this? Well who knows? I took a break from the fandom before and found my way back so I'm not ruling anything out. Only the future will tell 😀
 
On and off I've been a fan for 10-11 years or so and I think part of what made it easier for me to still be a fan is that I spent several years out watching other things. I used to belong to a little group of people who met in the back room of a pub in Leeds to watch the latest episodes but after that stopped, I haven't really had much interaction with other Buffy fans until starting here.
 
I find this an impossible question to answer.

On one hand, I haven't gone out of my way or had any real desire to watch an episode of Buffy or Angel, in years. I don't think I've managed to get past "Reptile Boy" in a re-watch in about 8 years.

The older I get, the less I care.

But on the other hand, I still ship B/A to the absolute extreme. My Buffyverse merch remains some of my most prized possessions and, if I had more money, I know I would buy more.

What I think keeps me interested is the fandom, most specifically BB. I just like coming to talk to you fine people. More and more what I discuss with you has nothing to do with the Buffyverse.

I joined BB during my first year of college, I'll be graduating from my masters in August. I fully expect to spend a significantly smaller amount of time online once that happens. So, in a way, I expect my interest in Buffy to wane even more at that point.

Despite all this I have absolutely every intention of introducing my kids to Buffy and Angel when they are old enough. Despite how I feel now, the characters got me through my teens. That is no small feat, and it won't be forgotten. I'd hope my kids could take some strength from these super human, superheroes too.

So, yes, in a lot of ways, I will be a fan in ten years. I just have serious doubts if I will be active, as I am now.

My opinion has changed on several aspects of the show. My feelings on Willow and Riley, for example. What has never changed, and never will change, believe me, is how I feel about Bangel.

I love B/A because it reflects core values I admire as a person i.e. loyalty, strength and dedication. However else I feel about the Buffyverse, B/A is literally part of who I am. All the re-watches in the world won't change that.

I'll still be a fan. I go through phases where I'm more into it than other times just due to how long it has been off the air, but I'm always a fan. I've been a fan this long, so I don't see it stopping. 🙂
 
I'll definitely still be a fan! Buffy is one of my top 3 shows, if not, my favourite show EVER. There was one time where I didn't watch either Buffy or Angel properly for a few years, I'd just watch an episode here and there if I'd caught up with all my shows and there was nothing on TV, but I've come to realise I love every episode, every character and just everything about the 'Verse.
So yeah, I'll still be a fan till the day I die. I can pretty much bet, when I'm old and in a retirement home, on a hover chair or whatever, I'll be watching Buffy or Angel on an old, run-down DVD player. 😀
 
I came into the Buffy fandom Jan. 2003 -_- just in time to see it end five months later 🙁 and I've been a fan ever since. ^-^

Seeing as I'm still a fan of shows I watched as a kid (Xena, Hercules, X-files, etc) I'm not likely to change lol so yeah Imma be a fan of the Buffster for a long time. 😀
 
I still think i will be a fan of the show but i can't see myself having the time to watch the show constantly like I did last summer, which made me a little obsessed with everything Buffy. Recently i haven't watched as much so i've posted less on this board and in general Buffy has taken a backseat.

However i know that as soon as I watch a couple of episodes i'll still love the show and have a lot of time for it. It is to good a show to me to suddenly stop being a fan.
