Storm Doris is ripping through here at the moment.....Don't know what the official wind speeds are but its lashing the trees around something wild.
Not seen any trees come down as yet (I live on the edge of a wood on top of a hill) but it must be causing damage.....It's been blowing like this since last night......

At least it's dry here....What is it like up North....You've got snow blizzards as well up in Scotland I believe?

We've had some sleet. It's a bit nippy but not too windy. Storm Doris has nothing on Hurricane Bawbag.

The radio is telling people to avoid one of the main routes as the petrol station roof is coming off.

It has settled down a bit here now, but it has been rough most of the day. Am taking a chance and walking to the cinema in a bit, so we'll see how it goes...😀

Guess it took a while to make it further south. We've had the storm here since early evening. It's dying down now though.

When I lived in the UK the house I was in had views of 7 or 8 miles to Dartmoor, the winds could batter the house the other way. At one stage the scaffolding planks were held against the walls of the house. The winds were Force 9 hurricane, and trees had no problem with the wind.

Trouble is, every time a tree comes down in a wooded area it exposes the trees behind to the brunt of the next storm. An extreme example of this was a wood near us where the forestry Commission decided to replace a conifer wood with something befitting typical English woodland.....so they cut down all the conifers, just leaving a few old oaks, & planted new saplings.....next big storm ripped out all the oaks, brining them all down as they were no longer sheltered by the connifers......
You would have thought the Forestry Commission of all people would have expected this.....?

Last Watcher: Yeah, the main part of the storm hit northern UK. Down here in the South we just got the edge of it...as did you when it hit mainland Europe....

If what you in South England got was only the edge...what did we get and how bad was your North? 😱 Middle of Germany West and East got up to 110 km/h wind. While people in South Bavaria spend the day with sunshine, go figure. Didn't hit the very north of the country either. Lucky SOBs.

I'm technically part of the South, which is weird as I'm actually in the Midlands!

Things were very windy and on Wednesday we had sleet as well as the rain and windy, but it all calmed down last night, and in amongst the rain it was bright and sunny.

I heard on the news that a woman in Wolverhampton died because of the storm, and a lot of trees went down, blocking roads, glad I didn't have to drive anywhere.

I'm in the North of England and I was out working in the storm yestereday evening. Nearly got blown off my feet a few times, and the rain was very heavy. Part of my job is climbing in the backs of lorries and it wasn't safe opening the doors. So we sat in the office drinking tea, thanks Storm Doris 🙂

I heard on the news that a woman in Wolverhampton died because of the storm, and a lot of trees went down, blocking roads, glad I didn't have to drive anywhere.

There was a lorry driver killed in London too. Seems his truck was blown off the road & he hit a lamp post.
