Stranger Things Season 5 Spoiler Discussion

The most notable thing about the documentary is they didn't have the finale written when they started shooting .

Some keen-eyed viewer noticed that they had chatGPT open on a laptop ready to go, presumably to help with the dialogue? 🤣

I read an article that stated the documentary showed they literally were writing the finale as they were filming the finale. Set designers didn't know what to do, or what to prepare for in the normative advance that other limited series shows usually get. And now, seeing the ending... it makes sense why it ended the way it did because they truly didn't know how they wanted to end.

The Duffers never really planned from season to season so this wasn't a terribly great shock, but I saw that a lot of their writing process was really childish and ill thought-out. They really need to self-sensor more, they came across as very shallow.

My advice; do your best to forget about it and go and watch something else.

I also just read an article today that said GOT writer George RR Martin has called "Winds of Winter" (book 6 of 7 in his series) is low on his priority list. LOW? You've been stringing fans along for 15 years. But it ties back to what I said earlier in that these writers more often then not go into something with a GREAT concept and no ending in mind. And that's what hurts these series.

George is getting older and has a severe weight problem, plus he gets increasingly grumpy by fans 'obsessing' over him finishing GoT, he seems to very much enjoy doing other things so odds are that he dies before he finishes.
I partly blame his new publishers, the old ones kept his books from becoming too bloated, plus he sawn how the show's ending was received so he maybe doesn't want to go down that route, but can't decide how to finish any other way.

Weirdly the documentary leaked weeks ago on Youtube . I waited til it released on Netflix , just so I didn't have to maybe watch it twice .

I've come away from Stranger Things really enjoying the characters , though their endings were all a little safe for my tastes .

The actual mythology of ST is pretty simple . They just never tell us the details. Half the suspense is never knowing what is going on . In my opinion , it's not an especially fertile landscape either . Most the popular fantasy verses could generate elevator pitch ideas forever . Can't say that about ST . Fan fiction must be hard !

I haven't seen the documentary but I heard they said they had the ending plotted out but hadn't finished the script yet- I don't think it's that uncommon, I was always really impressed about the way Buffy season 3 was technically written as it went given that when they were writing the beginning of that season they hadn't planned for Faith/The Mayor to be the big bad.
