It's not just you. The companies KNOW it provokes exactly that kind of response. That's why they do it. The force of inertia is surprisingly powerful. Just keeping doing whatever it is you're doing. Companies can't outright force you to do what they want...but they sure as hell can be as much of a pain in the ass as possible if you don't!I'd wager that many people like me (bipolar and obsessive compulsive) are better off not having "complete" control of our television viewing 24/7. In other words, commercials force us to take a break because sometimes we just CAN'T hit the pause button. 😅 We see that little countdown message ("...next episode in 10, 9, 8, 7...") on the screen and we KNOW that we can stop it...but we just don't. Even if we need to sleep, or study, or whatever. A power greater than us overtakes our rational thinking....
Look at Amazon or Google. Even search results aren't really search results anymore. They intentionally made results super large so only 1 or 2 results fit on screen at a time and you need ungodly amounts of scrolling to see the stuff lower down. Why? So that people get fed up of scrolling, don't look down and see organic search results, and instead click on what Amazon/Google want you to click on, usually sponsored results/ads. Even the ads used to be clearly marked as ads, but they gradually made it less and less noticeable so that now the sponsored results look nearly identical to genuine results. It's all psychological manipulation and very scummy business practices to make more money without providing real value--in fact decreasing value to customers.
