Strong Female Characters

Naturally...she totally has a public persona and that's why she's famous...the chick is an absolute manipulative genius. I aspire to follow in her footsteps.

it's the fact people detest her and can't stop talking about her that keep her in the limelight and the gossip rags, so I'm sure she has no problem with it either. The day everyone starts liking her, her star fades...that day will never come, though. There's too many poor, ugly chicks around to keep the hate alive...god bless them...😀

Again, its the same with our Jordan.
You have Gossips who only print stuff to bitch about her and bitch that she is famous for nothing.

I'm no fan of any of them but then I don't go out of my way to read about them either.

Having said that, if Genetic Opera is as good as I hope it will be then I'll probably be a convert to the House of Paris.

BOO! Don't convert! Resist I say, resist!
I haven't had a chance to see the film yet either...but have you seen any of the clips she's in? She's not gonna be taking home Academy Awards anytime soon but she's good in her role...mostly because it's not too far removed from her own personality.

I have two

Buffy Summers- I really don't think I need to explain why Buffy was, and I think in a way, continues to be a strong female rolemodel for me but if I had to say anything it is her inner-strenght and conviction that resonated with me the most. I wanted to be a strong woman like her, I wanted to have the belief in myself regardless of what everyone else and the world threw at me. I wanted to do the impossible like she did all the time. In my own ways I have done and continue to do all of those things and I credit that to Buffy Summers, for setting me on my way.

Christina Aguilera- Some might laugh or scoff at this but this women is a real life amazon who no matter what remains true to who she is. At litterally every stage of her life she has been knocked down and torn apart but she kept going because she knew there was something more, new that you did not have to settle for the life she was given, that she could create her own. I cannot stress how much I admire that, how much I strive for that.

Something to strive for karma. Everyone should strive for something at least once in their lives.

Susan Sarandon doesn't deserve any awards for her role in Rocky Horror BUT she is magnificent.

I have seen the clips though - that movie looks like its going to be a favourite.

Musical - Good
Organ harvesting - Good
Head - Good...as in Anthony Stewart!!!
Brightman - GOOD

I tried to give her music career a chance, guilty secret...i did not hate it, sound staged as it was- it was not bad!.

Paris is famous for doing nothing...good. Is that brilliance/ Do youthink she's just out raising hell or do you thing she has a motive behid it?

As rich as she is, does she really care? Her dollars aren't made by fame anyway as much as her giggles are made from her fame, I'd wager.

I think the media hunts her because her parents are rich; that somewhere a lot of poor slobs say..."I might not be worth millions but at leats my daughter ain't sucking *ahem* on the internet like that tramp."

I think some build themselves up off of others shortcomings; her being under a microscope has only appliffied hers and unjustly so...

That actually makes me angry, that peple think like that and let class envy infatuate and infuriate to that degree. I dunno though. Maybe i don't know what i'm talking about and am just legit in missing her real appeal. I think she's smarter than she lets on...much smarter. oddly thats no comfort.

If she was anyone else like say flavor flav, or sebation bach...who would care? She is the perfect example of rich people having problems too, and she has become a living soap opera. She doesn't deserve that, no one does.

Maybe because she can live through that circus, she is in fact a strong female role? I wish her well.

People have come up with some real good ones like Lilah and Sarah Connor etc that I definately agree with. Im gonna throw in Ripley (Sigorney Weaver's character from the Alien movies) I think she deserves a mention.

Ellen Ripley is a wonderful example of a strong female character {applause}, she's also one of my favourites.
Ok, I just have to backtrack for awhile here to discuss my feelings about Paris.

I love her because she has grasped the exact moment that post modernity was cool and played up to it. She has managed to both get an audience that loves her because of the part she is 'playing' and she has also managed to make money and fame out of it. She is both respected for being dumb and aspired to for it. I love it. I love what she has managed to do in the media crazy world we live in.

Moving on.

Buffy is probably the only character in television that I find to be a strong female character. I can't think of any others that I truly look up to.

There are many in movies and books, but very few in television. I question why this is?

Because a strong female character (epecially as the lead) challenges the patriarchal views of media.

I have one that no-one's mentioned. But that's probably because only four or so people on the Boards have seen the program.

Effy Stonem from the British series Skins. She's just a 15 year old girl who refuses to speak. Instead she listens, and is the single most insightful character in the series. She watches as her brother gets twisted into a life and persona that she knows he does not want, and can do nothing until she throws herself to the wolves to save him. Only, less metaphory, and more heroin-y. Her story is fantastic, and even better, it's severely underplayed - none of the characters know the extent of what she did, and that's fine with her. Even more remarkably, the audience is kept from knowing unless they do that extra bit of digging to find out - she sets out her motivation in a seemingly unrelated fable that she tells to the camera (the most lines she got in the entire first series), but this was only available as a secret episode online.

She was such an interesting character that was slowly revealed by the creators through unconventional means - no dialogue, presenting her as being extremely flawed and selfish on the show, but showing through online media (facebook, secret episodes), fourth wall breaking, etc. And then in the second series she goes on to quetly drag her brother back onto his feet, hold her family together, and put everyone back together without their knowledge. Let's just ignore the freaky incestuous Effy=Elizabeth=Imaginary!Beth who sleeps with Tony. Cause that just got weird.

Ok, you can all go back to talking about characters you know now.

Skins? Never heard of it... goes to check it out.
And there I was thinking it was your conscience!!!

I never run out of karma... Does this mean I'm not rad like you?

No it just means I went on a spree - it won't happen again. Also, you're my first new rep after the imposed ban
You know if Genetic Opera is that good Randi, you'll come with😛

You reminded me of this YouTube - Make Me Smile (Video)

Because of the resist🙂

Bullcrap I will! You would think with all that money she has the woman could at least afford food to eat! Walking skeletons are not sexy. Give me curves anyday! Ok that sounds kinda gay....but a woman with some nice soft curves and that hourglass shape is much more appealing than a woman that has the body of a boy!
Same problem I have with SMG from about S4 onwards....

Plus, I'm a smart chick, remember? Ditzy blondes are just annoying.

No one's gonna know what I'm talking about but I loved the female characters on the show "So Weird"...all of them were very strong in their own ways.

And Scully from The X-Files. 🙂
