I don't know if anyone has mentioned this but heres something in Buffy that I found really annoying in the first few seasons :
WHY do all the "big bads" have only one goal : KILL THE SLAYER in almost every episode? and whats more- they always go ALONE to defeat her so they can have all the glory. but stupid much!? if they went in groups, they'd have WAY more of a chance. Buffy always beats them. Havn't they learned anything?
what do you think?

Every villain in the world is stupid (ok, not really but kind of). They try to take on their nemisis on their own, or keep them alive and telling them their grand plan so the "hero" can save the day later on. Just the way is works.

Actually, Angelus was the only Big Bad to have it in for Buffy. The Masters main goal was to rise, he would have had the same goal wether Buffy was there or not. The Mayor just wanted his ascention. Glory just wanted her key. Buffys the one that finds out about what her enemies are up to then goes after them, not the other way about. Angelus though, he's the only one ever to actually make Buffy the focus of his evil. The 'ending the world' thing just an oppertunity that arose and he took advantage. I suppose the Trio went after Buffy too, but id class them as supporting big bads(as Willow was the true big bad)
On Angel though, His Big bads tend to Actually specifically go after Angel(W&H, Darla, Holtz, and Jasmine was directly tied up in his life)

^^ true, but I don't just mean the BIG big bads. I mean the demons in every single episode.

I think its for rep. Look at Spike in School hard, he just wanted to kill Buffy so he could boast about it.

Well I think one feature that comes with being evil is over-estimating your own powers. So I'm pretty sure every single one of those demons Buffy ever fought thought they stood a real chance against the slayer or could even easily win.
And to WHY they go after Buffy: Well she is in the way of pretty much every evil plan and the villains know that. I'm guessing they want to be on the safe side with their plans and so to ensure safety, getting Buffy away is crucial. Then there's of course also the factor of killing a slayer. The big bads maybe didn't care about that, but the smaller bad guys sure as hell did. That's what every demon wants, prove how strong they are by killing a slayer. Just look at Spike and what a boost reputation-wise his killing slayers gave him.
