Stupid questions you never dared to ask before

Why don't victims put up more of a fight? As soon as a vampire sinks his fangs into whatever vein is available, all struggle just stops, as though they have some sort of venom.

Also, since the most common method of killing vampires is a stake through the heart, why don't at least SOME vampires wise up and wear some sort of armor?

In a season 1 episode, the vampire trio "The three" actually did use armour, so I also wondered about that. The boring answer is as usual the plot: if vampires and slayers would behave logically the plot would soon end up in full-scaled war instead of a chosen one patrolling graveyards - no Buffy...

Perhaps it's a pride thing.
They're the EVIL UNDEAD, they're the baddest of the bad, and we know that of course they love to act big. I can't see most vamps lowering themselves to wear armor. I mean, most of the people they're up against are measly humans. Even in Sunnydale, a vampire who wore armor to protect him/herself from Buffy would be ridiculed by the others, I'd think.
So yeah, I think it has to do with pride.

They did have the occasional paying client, at least two of whom were multi-millionaires, who were both probably quite happy to pay quite large fees for Angel's unique services, and one of whom helped them lease the hotel for basically nothing. Wesley came from what was obviously a quite wealthy family, and probably had some sort of trust fund that he would have been happy to share, pretty much the same way that Giles did with Buffy in Season 6.

Thats a very good point especially with the millionaires and especially David Nabbit giving the gang a good fee for their services. But wasn't Wesley in need of cash thats why Angel offered to give him a job?

I remember the "Elite" from the Watchers Council asking Wesley why he was still in LA and they made a comment that the Council wouldn't "cough up" the fee to fly Wesley back home. To me it came across Wesley was pretty much broke and living on a very tight budget until Angel started paying him.

a few times vamps get infected (Angel by faith, Spike in Damage with the crazy slayer drugging him) and all these infections happen quite quickly, like real drugs would. But how? We know for a fact that a vamps heart does not pump, that means that blood is not flowing at all within a vampire so any drugs would only affect a localised area at best. It would take years for the drugs to travel throughout the body of a vamp, and by then do nothing. I know its a bit scientific (well not really) but it bothered me on a few occasions.

Well they shouldn't be able to bleed either then, should they? But hey, they are walking, talking corpses(!) - so even their hearts don't beat, who's to say their blood isn't flowing?

I guess we're just supposed to accept it as part of the accelerated vamp healing thing, maybe?

Ulrikke agrees: Well they shouldn't be able to bleed either then, should they? But hey, they are walking, talking corpses(!) - so even their hearts don't beat, who's to say their blood isn't flowing?
Well there would still be leakage. Their blood could be kept under pressure in the blood vessels too.

Sure. I'm not saying there wouldn't be blood at all. Just that, as far as we've seen, vampires tend to bleed the same way humans do (well, nothing indicated otherwise IIRC) and, vampires being technically dead and thus without a heartbeat, that shouldn't be possible.

As I understood it, vampires do have some sort of mystical blood flow. This allows them to bleed and for drugs and chemicals (such as alcohol) to move through their system. This, apparently, also allows them have erections.

I agree about Wesley. All indications were that he was broke. I can't imagine his father giving him money - what with how he feels about him.

But I am curious about how much money was in this bag that he took from the girl in Are You Now Or Have You Ever Been? and then finds later. Who knows? I can't remember if she says how much she took. I seem to remember something to the effect of her saying that she just threw a bunch in, or whatever. Could it have been enough to sustain them for a while? Possibly.

And I also agree about big-paying clients - they, I imagine, had a quite a few of those. We just see more screen-time for the non-payers - they're more interesting 🙂 Like the parents whose daughter had an eye on the back of her head.

Yes, but was he being given money from them? I'm not sure about that. I can also imagine Wesley not wanting to take his family's money. I think after he got fired by the Watchers Council he got pretty disillusioned with the whole thing - hence starting his own thing, "rogue demon hunting". I'm sure, like everyone else, he wanted to earn his keep and make his own money, not mooch off his parents. I got the impession, when he showed up at AI, he was homeless, with nothing but his bike and the clothes on his back. He makes no indication that he has a place to stay, and is overjoyed when Cordelia askes him to stay for dinner...like he's starving!

I've got a silly question to ask, in Fredless when Fred's parents arrived how come at first they were acting all suspicious? Or was it to throw us off and make us think there was something more sinister going on as to why Fred disappeared? Or did Fred's parents just not trust Angel Investigations because they were being all hush hush around them about the truth?

I was watching lovers walk today and Spike's driving in his car, why doesn't he ever get stopped? He's windows are all blacked up! I'm sure he'd get stopped or chased if he didn't stop and if he did stop surely the cop would try and open his door? =sunlight becuase he clearly doesn't mind driving in the day.

Maybe they did stop him, and he killed them.

Yes but he'd have to open his door! thus the sunlight would come in and dust him.....
Not necessarily he could have opened his car window covered up and yanked the police officer through. Or maybe like all the Sunnydale police, everywhere else in the world their just stupid and let Spike drive on lol.

I was just watching Halloween, and I've always been wondering, why does Ethan use a statue of Ianus to worship Khaos/Chaos? Seen as he's talking latin, I assume we're thinking in terms of the ancient Romans, however, Chaos is Greek, and it's an it, not a being. It's like what was there shortly after the Big Bang (Or before God created the earth, whatever you like) and from it the first Gods were created. I can imaine that if you're praying to something, you want something to pray to, so I can see the use of the statuette (or bust or whatever it was) but why Ianus? He's quite the opposite of Chaos:
In general, Janus was the patron of concrete and abstract beginnings, such the religion and the Gods themselves, of the world[6] and the human life[7], of new historical ages, economical enterprises. He was also the God of the home entrance (ianua), gates, bridges and covered and arcaded passages (iani).

He was frequently used to symbolize change and transitions such as the progression of past to future, of one condition to another, of one vision to another, the growing up of young people, and of one universe to another. He was also known as the figure representing time because he could see into the past with one face and into the future with the other. Hence, Janus was worshipped at the beginnings of the harvest and planting times, as well as marriages, births and other beginnings. He was representative of the middle ground between barbarity and civilization, rural country and urban cities, and youth and adulthood.
Also, we owe him the word janitor. (kudos to Wikipedia)

Finally, but that's just me being an Ancient Greek nerd (Stephen Fry would be proud), Xάος (Chaos/Khaos) did NOT mean chaos. It meant just what the Greeks assumed it was, a 'gaping void' empty, dark, but really quite orderly (derived from the word χαίνω (Chainoo/Khainoo), which means to gape, to be open etc.) Misunderstanding or misreading of Ovid (I think) resulted in it's new meaning of disorder (which, in Greek, is in fact ταραχή (Tarachè/Tarakhè))
