What do people think of this film?

I just saw it, and it certainly wasn't bad, but it did feel more like a cheesy 1990s film than a contemporary one.

It certainly suffered from PR issues as I'd never heard of the film until now, and it's starring SMG & Alec Baldwin, two household names, and two of my favorite actors.
 
I kept track of the film while it was in the making (because I read the book years ago) and I think it's sad that they changed the title because it probably lost them a big audience (those who have read the book - Girl's Guide to Fishing and Hunting)

I like it fine, it's decent.
But not so much more than that. It doesn't really leave an impression, like there's something missing from it.

Sarah's cute as a button though.
Just not sure it's worth the buck buying it (which I did), chances are one isn't going to die to re-watch this so I would recommend people to rent it first instead.
 
I bought it too, what a load of CRAP. I was so dissapointed, i only wanted to see Smg ^.^
I think this is one of her worst movies ever. ;(
 
Not my fav Sarah movie, but not too bad. I loved her job there, and her hair, and about the plot.. well it wasn't that interesting, but I didn't fall asleep while watching it.
 
I saw the movie before I got really into Buffy, but SMG was still my favorite actress so I had high expectations. The film kinda let me down, but I remember loving drunk Sarah. 😛
 
yeah, I think Sarah really carries this movie. She makes it worth watching, the rest is just kind of ... meh

I love Sarah, but Alec was just as good, imo.

Some of the supporting cast was pretty bad though. Her family & coworkers just weren't believable as real people...
 
I completely understand why she signed on for this film even though I didn't particularly like it. Sarah is from New York and so is her character and the film takes place there. Sarah collects first edition books and her character is a book editor and loves books. Sarah was once asked to describe the kind of romantic partner she is attacted to and she said something like "I don't want to say *talent whore*" and goes on to say that she is drawn to someone that is good at a certain art and it is dangerous since you might fall for their talent instead of them and her character in SB ends up falling for a guy that is successful and worldly only to realize that he also has all of these bad qualities that she doesn't need in her life. Sarah considers herself to be fairly reserved and is often referred to as professional and her character is the same way (though Sarah has more confidence).

I noticed that Sarah likes to do movies that were based on books. I Know What You Did Last Summer. Cruel Intentions. Surburban Girl. Veronika Decides to Die.

Her character is not from NYC 😉

Personally, I think her character was drawn to Archie 99.999% because of his age. I mean, the entire film was about her father issues. In this case, it's almost the opposite of Buffy, because instead of an absentee father and somewhat overbearing mother, she has loving parents who gloss over the bad in her life. She's trying to hold onto her childhood by maintaining a father-figure to guide her through life. The final scene has her deciding to be her own confidant adult for the first time in her life, being a woman, rather than the girl behind the man.

I agree that his age played a factor but it wasn't really his physical age that did it. It was his sucess and experience and maturity. Everything she felt she lacked. She wanted into that next stage in her life but didn't know how to get there on her own. She was making her boyfriend/lover into her mentor/father figure.

It does take place in NYC, but her character had just moved there within the past few years 🙂

I liked it, SMG in leather pants is always good. Interesting to compare Alec Baldwins character to whom he now plays on 30 Rock

If you have the DVD be sure to listen to the directors commentary, he never watched Buffy and when SMG warns him over the fans/press when they're location shooting he doesn't take it seriously. His mistake:smile3:
