I wouldn't say this was one of the better seasons, in my opinion. Too much screentime eaten up by annoying Potentials I didn't care about, and a lot of the longtime regulars really could have used a little more to do. And "Chosen" is all right, but it really pales in comparison to a lot of the mere season finales and Angel's finale was quite a bit better.
Season 6 is my favorite season, so I have no room to argue the merits of a good season, lol, but S7 is still high on my list, although, I do agree with Revolver and the too much Potential screentime problem.
I think the reason no one ever took to the Potentials was because, for the most part, they were set up to be throw away characters, to be killed off if and when it was called for by the script, so not a lot of effort was put into developing their individual characters, with the exceptions of Kennedy, Rona and Amanda. But because of this and the fact that they were given so much screentime, no one felt emotionally attatched to them. We didn't know where they'd come from, what they had to go through to get there, how long they'd known they were Potentials, or how they felt about being potentially the next Slayer in line. So we were left thinking 'why should we care about these girls? They're sucking away all the Xander/Spike/Anya/Dawn/insert-character-name-here time.'

I think 7 was a great season. I didn't mind the potentials, i didn't care about them as individuals but i thought the whole story surrounding them wasn't too bad. Loved the Spike v Wood arc. Faith and Andrew was good too. The last 6 eps, with Caleb were the season highlight and imo as good as any run of eps on Btvs.

I agree with these points: the Potentials did seem to take up an awful amount of screentime, leaving no room for the rest, particularly poor Xander. Apart from the whole 'having-one's-eye-popped-out-by-a-deranged-preacher' thing, he didn't really have much of an impact on the season.
However, saying that, I did like the season, and it's probably my third favourite after 3 and 2 (ah, the good years!). I like how it jumped into the season arc right from the first eppy: I wasn't too keen on the arc first time round, but after re-watching, it just gets better and better. There are some pretty decent stand-out episodes (although not as much as other seasons) - CWDP, Storyteller and Chosen are my personal faves.
Plus, it has Andrew, and I LOVE that guy!

I liked the season very much.
The idea of bringing the first evil back as the biggest bad was great. Introducing the potentials also gave an impression of how set the world is if one Slayer dies. And Spike. Souled Spike was great. Although mostly in the first half of the season. Him being all crazy and broken was a lovely sight. Gave me the feeling how important your soul is. Your soul is apparantly also your little Jeminy Cricket.

Despite all the potential screen time, I think this season, after 2 & 3, was one the best. The show went back to have a mythical kind of feel to it which is what I loved so much about the first 3 seasons, and what I felt was lacking in 4,5 & 6. The Turok-Han was a great way to go back to vampires being a big enemy, as normal vamps wouldn't be such a big threat after Adam, Glory etc.
I'm not a huge fan of this season. The action was good, and I love that Faith comes back to fight the final battle. I just think that this season left a lot of unanswered questions. It also killed off some good characters in rather pathetic ways *cough*Anya*cough*.

Yes, she was totally over looked and when Xander found out all he could say was ''That's my girl''. She deserved more than that for a main character.

Season 7 I felt was a good rap up to the series. I loved that Buffy gave her slayer powers to all the potential slayers, although I was a little disappointed when I didn't them =(...oh well. Season 7 is like fourth on my list as far as favorites.

Aside from Kennedy, they really didn't do much with them and so it was kinda of a waste I thought. I felt like the writers could have done something more with.

Final battle scenes and score alone...yup, pretty much the BEST season for that. I crank my sound system for S7!
Character development- not so much (primarily to do with the introduction of 30 new girls)
Story line- Started out extremely strong, very excited. Then got bogged down with the explanation. The end was enough to redeem it for sure but the characters (aside from Buffy and Spike) certainly suffered.

I liked Season 7 but it wasn't my favorite season. I agree that there was too much screentime given to some of the Potentials, and even Spike, for my taste. I thought the final season should have had more to do with the core Scoobies; the ones who started it all. I did think their little scene at the beginning of "Chosen", walking their separate ways in the school was VERY cool though. 🙂

I enjoyed this season as well. It got pretty epic at the end there and the music was pretty good. The only drawback for me was Kennedy. She just got on my nerves which is really rare for me actually, in a Joss show at any rate.
Also, remember that scene with the dungeons and dragons?
