They are in talks of bringing the Twilight series to the small screen. Oh yeah!

From The Hollywood Reporter:

Sinead Daly, whose credits include Tell Me Lies, The Walking Dead: World Beyond, Raised by Wolves, Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency and The Get Down, is attached to write the script for Twilight. Sources say Daly is working with Lionsgate TV to determine what the specific take on Twilight will be and if it will be a remake of Meyer’s books or a different offshoot.

The timing of the Twilight series comes as HBO Max recently confirmed that it was in early development of a Harry Potter television adaptation with plans for a decade-long run.
 
I'm not familiar with Twilight beyond pop culture osmosis, and what I do know, doesn't suggest it was very deep. Can anyone provide guidance if a decade of material exists?

The decade length run they mention is for the new Harry Potter series. I can't imagine Twilight last for 10 years. Probably half of that. But yeah, if they wanted I am sure they could easily do a ten-year Twilight run. They would have to deviate and fill-in some of the book backstories but... they'll do that anyway.

That about sums up the movies. The novels are much better. I enjoyed those (up until the last one, couldn't get into that)

Wow, the "golden age of TV" is really over! Say what you will of Twilight, it was a popular movie series that ended only 12 years ago. Same with the Harry Potter movies. This likely makes the producers think TV series will be popular, too, and probably they will be. But the fact that they're reaching back only a little over a decade to series that people still remember well seems to speak to the bankruptcy of new ideas in TV scripting.

You should see Angel: Eternity before seeing the first movie (that is if you choose this dark path). You'll see A LOT of parallels, just with an actress rather than a high school girl. Edward and Angel even have similar hairstyles. I know the author says it's from a dream she had, but I swear it's from the dream she had over that Angel ep that she found frustrating (like how the Angel ep ended rather than Beauty taming the Beast), and thinking of how she'd like to rewrite it to fit unwholesome fantasies. (It's also claimed 50 Shades of Grey came from this series as fanfiction.)

I've read the first book. I'm grudgingly impressed at how generic they make her. She doesn't use Google, she uses "my favorite search engine." A lot of things like that which they couldn't get away with in the movies. (Though I did enjoy a few descriptive parts featuring Washington state in the book, made me miss the area.)

It's not just teen girls (and it was an 12-year-old who got me to read the first book, loaning me her own copy), but also middle aged. I think they were called Twi-moms. Many had the temerity of openly lusting after Jacob's abs while condemning Miley Cyrus for "using sex to sell" despite that she's the same age as the actor who played Jacob then (makes me wonder how many twi-moms are married and/or have sons, perhaps encouraging him to bring his jock friends home...). They were more worried about the bad example Miley was making for their daughters rather than their own bad example.

Someone who worked in a prison holding the hardcore offenders also said it was popular among the inmates there. I can see why. Always talking about killing people and being real controlling, and Bella is like, "More, please." So she'd be into them (at least if they have tight abs like Edward and/or can make her immortal.)

Oh! I just remembered this classic that splices the first movie with Buffy...

I don't know, maybe it'll be a revival for vampires on TV.

The Vampire Diaries were really popular... and those were not much like the books they were based on, so a Twilight show would probably also stray from the source material. Maybe it'll be a chance for them to change things up and adress some of the problems people see in the movies/books.
 
There is so much Harry Potter and Twilight fanfic, they probably wouldn't have to write an original script for 10 years if they just suck some of that stuff up!

Hopefully next Bella is more book/Mormon Bella and they dont go down the Vampire Diaries whiney Elana road. The no sex before marriage thing would be unusual in this tv age. What other bits would they have to update to fit the cultural norms of tv today? It'd be interesting to see if they aim at preteen as they havent had the exposure yet.

There are so many little spin offs they could do within it. The family unit the author used is such an easy setting for adventures. Alice and Jasper have more story to flesh out especially if they dont stick to strict book canon. More of Carlisles life before he began the family. Even Renesmes existence, although I'd expect that to be a s5 thing once the rest has played out.

The diamond skin could certainly be improved. And what about pack dynamics? Isnt the Alpha theory debunked now (at least that what all the insta dog trainers say).

Oooh now I will be looking for better Bellas 😀 yay!
 
Do we really need another re-telling of a love triangle so terrible that it's resolved when when of the guys ends up falling for the main character's baby daughter?

I'd argue we never needed that in the first place. I'd also go further and add that somebody putting that in a movie wants me to delete and reboot the entire universe in hopes that something like that isn't ever repeated.

Re: Ten Years; I'm sure every major novel "franchise" of the last thirty years is in talks right now for an epic prestige television series. Just like how every finale was divided into two parts. My guess is, someone grabbed the rights before someone else could, without thinking if the story truly merited an epic, or even if it still appealed to... Anyone?

The Alpha thing is somewhat weird. So, when you put a group of dogs in a room together, the most aggressive dog/wolf takes over and forms a canine dominance hierarchy. However, in the wild, wolves live in clans, where the alpha is the father, the matriarch is the mother, and the pack is largely their pups. So, the system doesn't really reflect how wolves live in the wild. The commentariate took this to mean, the entire theory of alpha dog was debunked. It wasn't. Doggie daycares still separate big dogs from little dogs, and most people in the modern world don't live in patriarchies. So, it seems likely to be true in certain circumstances, just not true in the state of nature for canines.

I somehow missed this. I remember seeing a vid on the dogs of Chernobyl. Some dogs were ostracized, but it felt more like a "mean girls" thing that was more passive aggressive (though the outcasts moved out of the way fast enough) than vicious.

The "alpha male" assumption turned out to be inaccurate, as admitted by the guy who first described it, and yet it's not totally false, either, and complicated in other ways. Documentaries on wolves introduced to Yosemite explore this where you learn the REAL leaders are the crows who train them from pups, essentially having domesticated them in a presumably similar way our prehistoric ancestors once domesticated dogs. 😱

But "alpha" dynamics are clearly at work in the packs, and yet it's not like what most people imagine (and it seemed the lone wolf was getting more action than any alpha male to the point that observers named that wolf Casanova).

But then Raven/Crow IS a frequent spirit/god of various tribes, including in the Pacific Northwest...finally, the religion of native american werewolves can be explored! Nothing can go wrong there...😛

I vaguely recall a fanfic I read over 10 years ago where Edward and Jacob run off together to be gay lovers, and commiserating on how much they hated whiny, too stupid to live Bella, and glad to be away from her clingy, manipulative ways. Still better than the actual story. It helped that I imagined a girl riot (with confrontations of "Did YOU write this!?") as from Mean Girls once the fanfic spread to high school (or even middle school) girls. 😀

I wonder how the hearing of thoughts and demands from the Alpha will work out, and if they would involve more females in the tv series. Besides Leah.

There was heaps of Jacob/Edward fic back in the twitard days. I didnt read any of them, if any were gay, it was definitely Jasper.


Actually I'd prefer if it was set after the movies. Its all new territory there, and they avoid the issues around Renesme and Jacob all together.
 
I'm not a fan of Twilight so I wouldn't tune, in but I will admit it would work as a miniseries. And it would be interesting to see other actors in those roles other than Stewart and Pattinson.
