Would this desensitize or trivialize suicide? After the ‘refreshed’ and ‘liberated’ feeling passes and the 'students' are feeling suicidal again would they think that the mock suicide wasn't all that bad and actually serve as encouragement for the real thing?

Here’s a pretty bleak fact: South Korea’s suicide rate is the highest in the developed world. So in order to help its citizens to overcome suicidal thinking, the Seoul Hyowon Healing Centre is holding a ‘death experience’ school where suicidal adults come to receive very unconventional therapy.

The adults at this healing centre are asked to write their own wills, say goodbye to their family and friends, and undergo a mock funeral, all in the hope that these drastic measures will teach them about the pain that they will cause their loved ones via suicide.

‘Students’ even go as far as climbing into specially-made coffins during class and having them locked for ten minutes as the ‘Korean angel of death’ enters the room.

After 10 glorious minutes spent inside a wooden coffin, students of the centre are said to emerge feeling ‘refreshed’ and ‘liberated’ from their problems.

The head of the centre, Jeong Yong-mun (who happens to be a former funeral company employee) says these kind of ‘therapies’ encourage suicidal people to ‘accept the difficulties in their lives as a necessary part of life‘.
