One of those absurd occurrences in life that always puzzled..or sometimes amused..me.

How does someone get to a point that they think killing themselves is a solution?

Do you know someone that has killed themself, because I'm all ears!
Well not really, that would be odd, imagine just being all ears. People could talk your ear off, and you'd still have hundreds spare.

I remember a girl in high school offing herself because some guy rejected her.... Apparently he was weelly mean with his rejection and that prompted the girl to fling herself in front of a train. By way of a failed car attempt first.. It was car, one mile walk/crawl, train! Bam! That's dedication!

So I called up the Captain
Please bring me my wine
He said
We haven't had that spirit here since 1969

I knew someone who comitted suicide. I didn't know her well, but one day she went to the top of the cliffs and threw herself off them, leaving her bag at the top for some reason. That's how she was found, after being missing for days. She has a sister who I still see around.
I always wondered why, but it's hard to understand exactly why people do these things. Have you ever felt like you'd never have anything to look forward to again, or like there's no way out of your fears? Whatever personal problems these people have, they must reach a state that is past that, and they view death as a release. I guess people who commit suicide are no longer daunted by death, and are more afraid of living.

i know a boy (not personally) that tried to kill himself but he used a chain so it didnt work. he did that when i was in like 8th grade and he's still in a coma. his parents wont take him off life support

My local train station is a suicide hotspot. Theres been 2 in the last couple of months (That counts as a hotspot). I've never known anyone who has, although quite a few people I know talk about it, some 'say' they have attempted or contemplated it, but most people I know are attention seeking bullshitters. Araminta Tyler I think summed up the reasons that I feel cause people to commit suicide. They must feel that their life royally sucks and that death would ultimately be better.

Fiver, although you say the girl offed herself because a guy rejected her. I'm sure there were MANY other factors that pushed her over the edge, maybe that guy was just the last straw. (another factor probably being mental problems)

yes, he was a acquaintance, me ex ex knew him better, he was a nice lad,had a laugh with him round the green ( place were people meet up have lunch) ha... called paul a ginger bastard too to make me feel better... was shocked when i heard.... was a lovley lad....

I may regret posting this, but to respond most honestly I have to say that I know what it takes to want to do something like that for many reasons. I have both known personally individuals who succeeded in killing themselves (friends, family, and one individual who was neither, but still someone that I cared for) and unfortunately been in a place in which I thought that it was a viable option for myself.
It comes slowly from a place of utter dispair. Where the world is bad for you in the most global sense and there is no forseable end to your sorrow. You feel weak and you are. The idea of breathing another breath and feeling the way that it feels to be devoid of hope is so unbearable that you are certain that ceasing to exist would be better.
Please don't think that I am saying that this is an acceptable option. It isn't. It isn't strong. Living is strong. I don't even know if this makes sense but its words and they are mine.

my teacher told me today that her friends sister killed herself by hanging herself and my teachers friend is now in an institution after seeing her sister hanging from a rope... I think suicide is really selfish.... harm is not the solution, you arent only hurting yourself... but other people.

I have two different friends who has tried to commit suicide, and I don't think that there is an easy answere to this question, 'cause there can be different reasons and its not very easy to understand from an outsiders perspective.. The first one of my friends really wanted to kill herself, she described it as she had no where else to go and that nothing could be worse than what she was feeling. When she woke up in the hospital the first thing she though was that she was disappointed that she did not succed. This was many years ago though, and she has recovered from this and all..
The other friends attempt was more of a cry for help really, or so she said. She just felt really desperate. She did try to kill herself, but somewhere her subconscious made her choose a way that didn't succed.

I think you guys should read 'The Bell Jar' by Sylvia Plath if you want a better understanding of suicide. It's all about a fictional character, but it's also autobiographical, and she killed herself after it was published.

It might be selfish but when you get to that point, you dont care about being selfish. You just want out.

so true
Obviously it there can be many different reasons for people to feel like they "have to" kill themselves.. and ok I honestly don't really want to talk about that. I've never had a friend who has committed suicide, but two of my best friends (at different times and for very different reasons) tried to.. I only ever really talked to one of them about it, but yea, I guess she just had been really really depressed for a very long time etc. ...

Well, my paternal granddad hanged himself (my dad was the lucky one that discovered the body"”he was like 6 or 7 at the time). It was during the Depression and he had many reasons to be depressed, apparently.

Not to diminish people's responsibility for their own actions, but I do think that genetics and brain chemistry is at least one factor among many. I've got two bipolar sisters. One can't hold a full-time job. The other's ex just offed himself with pills six months back. Ugh. Don't even want to go into it. It's tough. There is apparently a link to depression, suicide and brain chemistry. People with unusually low serotonin levels.

People who kill themselves simply aren't being rational, obviously. Biology's a factor, personality, a dysfunctional, messed up culture perhaps...

Stress causes physical depression for a lot of people. Whether it's a bad breakup, or moving to a new city, death of a loved one...

Wouldn't it be cool to get into the mind of a person just as they are about to kill themselves. What a dark little place it must be.

What was it Glory said.."all I see is six billion lunatics looking for the fastest ride out." Seems like death is the ultimate freedom, and some people take the express train to get there. Before you board the train, sign here :sign:

You know......Glory's comment on the human psyche was spot on, imo.
I remember reading an article a year ago about a father that killed himself on his daughters 5th Birthday, The party was downstairs and he went upstairs and show himself!!!
