Summertime is here! So, what kind of stuff goes on in your town/city during the summer? Do you have any festivals or stuff like that? Here in The City Fun Forgot, we actually do have some fun on summer weekends! We have:

The Home County Folk Festival...in the central park downtown, all the hippies and hippy wannabees get together to play and listen to local folk musicans. Craftspeople crowd the area with their wares, and there are even a few folks partaking of the "divine weed"...if you get my drift...very down-home...

Balloon Fiesta/Rib Fest: These happen the same weekend, at different parks. Lots of hot air balloons launch twice daily (unless it's raining) and a local charity sponsors 12 restaurants who all bring their best rib recipes for judging and to sell to the hungry folks. Mmmmmmmm.

Blues Fest: Two days of blues bands...beer...sponsored by Labatt's...woohooo!

There are others, but what's happening in your hometown?

I'm coming home so they better get the party started!

Besides my return I don't think there is anything special happening, Uppsala is a very boring town. Perhaps a few outdoor concerts and that's it. I guess we'll just have to entertain ourselves.

Here in Västerås we just had something they called "vattendraget", with lots music and such, it was nice, I sat most of the time on teh grass enjoying the beautiful waether with my friends.. But I think that they are trying to copy the Waterfestival that was arranged in Stockholm some years ago, 'cause in all the advertisement for the festival they list all the things the two festivals and towns have in common.. don't really know why though, cause Stockholms Waterfesteival didn't go very well at all as I remember it.

My city is usually pretty good when it comes to these things, there are usually music and stuff all the time.. Except in the summer, for some reason. Anyways, I'm going to a folk music festival called Urkult, but that's not in Umeå. A really nice thing none the less.. That's like my only plans for this summer, at all, so yea...

Oh, I really want to go to Urkult, but i can't because I'm working, I'll really miss it...
Our little podunk town of Rockford has normally two really large summertime festivals...

1. Wing-ding (think of a redneck crossed with a rocker... imagine the possibilities) They play loud, rock music (We had Seether this year) but all the hillbillies show up to munch on some chicken wings.

2. On the Waterfront... this is the major event. Over labor day weekend, tons of bands, food, carnival, along the lovely, polluted (and icky) Rock River. They actually sometimes book some pretty decent bands.... (We had Sevendust one year, that was cool)

Otherwise... the only celebration I have to look for is my village's Fourth of July whopping two day celebration... yippie!

All my towns cool summer Festivals are over with. We had the Festival of the Arts June 2-4. And our towns gay pride was on the 18th. So now all there is to do is the Blues on the Mall every wednesday.

Re:

Fun in corn country? LOL...Around here everyone's got the motorcycle itch pretty bad. Last weekend there was Sturgis on the River...A bunch of bikers...motorcycles....stuff to buy, concession stands. Most weekends around here there's some kind of car show (Hot Rod, Classics, Bikes and trucks). But during the summer theres quite a bit to do in The District of The Quad Cities. It's a couple of blocks made up primarily of clubs, bars, and resturaunts. A few times each Summer they block off the steets and throw some pretty big shindigs (LOL- I said shindig!).....But around here that's about it. Nothing too spectacular.
