Summer Glau as Wonder Woman?

I don't agree with the newest poll by Film.com which names Summer Glau as the 2nd best choice to play Wonder Woman. Summer's great, but I don't think she has the build to play Wonder Woman, petite is a far cry from Amazon.

Other pseudo-Whedonverse picks I've heard are Cobie Smulders (HIMYM) and Emily Deschanel (Bones). I love them both, but I have a hard time seeing either in the role. Now Joss himself was the one who named Cobie as a top pick for the role, but honestly, I think it might be too big a departure for her. Wonder Woman has this amazonian intensity which is vastly different from anything I've ever seen from her.

And I just couldn't see Emily in the role. The only actress that comes to my mind that could pull of the role would be Olivia Wilde, she'd just have to gain a few pounds (rather than grow a few inches as Summer would). Even Olivia would be a stretch, but she's the only one who I could see remotely believably in the role...

No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, a world of NO. Wonder Woman is a WOMAN with HIPS, not some little twig. It's just wrong. Can you imagine her in the (iconic, not the new one) Wonder Woman costume? She'd look ridiculous.
Although no other actress who I'd believe as WW comes to mind right now either. Gina Torres would come close and (with a big maybe) Maggie Gyllenhaal.

I don't think Maggie's right for it, and Gina's a little too old, assuming they're going the Batman Begins/origin story route. Physically, I agree with Joss that Cobie's physically pretty perfect for the role. I'm just a little skeptical about her acting ability since in her 5 years on HIMYM, she's the only one who has never gotten a chance to really shine dramatically. I'd guess there's a reason for that... I do love her in that show though.

I think that Summer would make an excellent Wonder Woman, if she were portrayed as Diana would have been in her early 20's. The Amazons were warriors, pretty much the equivalent of champion martial artists, gymnasts, or track and field athletes, none of whom could in any way be considered voluptuous or full figured. I know how WW is drawn in the comics, and I know what Lynda Carter looked like in the costume, and neither one ever impressed me as what the real Wonder Woman, if she existed, would actually look like. Portraying her as more athletic and less statuesque seems like a pretty good idea to me, and, with the exception of Spiderman, none of the other movie/TV superheroes look that much like the actors portraying them. Why should Wonder Woman be any different?
 
Summer would have the physical stuff Wonder Women could do, down perfectly, but yeah she's to small for the role.

Cobie is interesting, she does have the right look, but I agree with BVF I haven't seen her acting ability outside of HIMYM and I'm not sure if she could pull it off, if she could I think she'd be a good choice.

But having said that, I like Summers acting. So I would much prefer they pick someone that can act rather then how close they look to the character.

She's to old for the part but I think the one who plays the "baddie" in Ugly Betty, Wilhelmina Slater, would have been perfect for the part (IF she were younger)

Wow, you're right! Vanessa Williams would be great! Because of her age, maybe she could play another amazon...
I'd love to see her as Wonder Woman! I think Summer could pull it off beautifully.
 
I don't see Summer working. She doesn't look the part at all and frankly, even though she's not a bad actress by any means, I don't think she's nearly as talented as people make her out to be (which I know is blasphemy amongst Whedon nerds but you'll just have to deal with it).

Cobie definitely looks the part and I could see her pulling it off. Another suggestion I really like is the girl who plays Kahlan from Legend of the Seeker.

I don't think Summer would be able to pull it off at all. She's just too small.
I think someone like Jessica Biel could pull off the look, but I don't know about her acting skills... If she were a little younger, I'd totally suggest Rachel Shelley, who played Helena on "The L Word":

I can't see Summer playing the role either to be honest. I would LOVE to see Cobie as WW though! She has the physical attributes down and I think she could pull off the acting.
 
I honestly wouldn't mind Cobie as WW, but as much as I like Summer I think she's too small for the role...
As for Emily, well, we all have seen her in the costume:

I think Summer is too skinny too. And I think Cobie can pull it off. Maybe she doesn't act much, but she can try. Still, I wanna see Summer in the movie as other roles. 😀
 
wow, I can't imagine either Summer, Emily or Cobie as Wonder Woman. I don't really think either is a fit for most reasons already stated in previous posts. And though I think she's the closest in looks the thought of Cobie in a lead role makes me cringe. I just can't imagine she's good enough for that.

Is that purely based on HIMYM or is there something else that I haven't seen her in?

It's mostly based on HIMYM, I just think she's dreadful a not small portion of the time. But then I didn't care for her when I saw her on The L Word and Tru Calling either.

It might just be me, I just think she's incredibly bland. there's nothing interesting about her, in fact they could exchange her for any brunette walking down the street and I probably wouldn't notice.

I actually like Cobie a lot as Robin. The only reason that I tend to doubt her acting ability is that I can't imagine the HIMYM writers think too highly of her. Neil & Josh get to show a lot of emotions pretty much every week. And Alyson has gotten to play everything from the Russian Stripper to the fiance madly in love but still not ready to give up her freedom. And Jason has had some juicy stories, especially since he's achieved star status in Hollywood.

So the only explanation I can think of to justify Cobie's 5 year-long star role, and few if any big scenes over 100+ episodes, is the writers have little faith in her as an actress...

If I knew how she was in her recent Off-Broadway run, I could probably have a more informed opinion...
