Inspired by the weather summer thread, I was just curious if your film and music tastes change when it gets hotter out and the sun is shining. Do you watch summer-themed movies or listen to summer-ey music? Or do you do the complete opposite and watch winter-themed movies to cool off?

Oh God. Now you've done it. You said winter themed in a post about music. Which makes me think of Christmas music. Which makes me think of Christmas. I'm not allowed to think of Christmas this early, because apparently some people are big Scrooges. But it's only 175 days, so I'm not too early, am I?

People talk about summer music and such, but I really don't notice my tastes changing much from season to season. Okay, maybe with food or something that temperature really affects but not music. Basically, if it sounds good, I'm going to listen to it in the summer, or in the winter, or perhaps Fall. Never spring. Just kidding.

That being said, I'm on the lookout for a new CD to obsess over this summer. Wilco just had a new one come out. Haven't heard it yet, but I'm thinking it might do the trick.

Summer is the time for Gyllene Tider. Means golden times but is the name of a swedish band. After Abba probably the most loved swedish band ever. Should be 30 years since they started now. Anyway, it doesn't get more summer than this for a swede. 😀 I listen to them a lot more during summer.

And even if you might think that swedish is a difficult language it doesn't take a genius to figure out that sommartider means summertimes. 😉

You know that's actually true with me, my tastes do sort of change in the summer. Great question!

In the winter I listen to more heartfelt lyrics and ballads as far as music goes. It wouldn't be a wierd thing for my playlist to consist of "I Will Always Love You" (Huston) , "Bring Me to Life" (Evanescence) and "Travelling Soldier" (Dixie Chicks) and the lyrics would somehow end up inspiring a short story or banner. Movie-wise I tend to stick to light-hearted romantic comedies or comedies like "Hancock" or "Knocked up": stuff with a laughtrack or punchline to tell me when to think, you know? 😉

But when the summer roles around, anything that's a real "thinker" and face-pased sort of movie goes. Angels and Demons, Disturbia, Inside Man and the Illusionist are all movies that I fell in love with in the summer but tend not to watch so much in the winter. I also like based on a true story sort of movies like "The Pursuit of Happyness" or "Reign Over Me", I definitely reach for the more serious movies. Then in my summer music tastes, it's all about the beat. Upbeat tunes with fun lyrics are most of what I listen to, and I rely more on current "Top 40" hits for new music (rather than looking back in my CD Collection). A lot of Bob Marley (and Ziggy Marley) and Sublime gets played in the summer time too, it sort of goes with the "living at a beach" theme 🙂

I never even realised that before, learn something new everyday!

Bob and Sublime, respect!
I can think of one specific song that I love to listen to when it's warm out and I don't even know why.

Def Leppard's "You're so Beautiful" always makes me think of summer.

My city's primary top 40 station always puts back into the song mix Bananarama's "Cruel Summer" and DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince's "Summertime" during the summer.

Hmm right now there are two songs constantly on the radio...They'll be on througout the summer

Those were the days indeed. :D
Oh yes! There is a lot of music that reminds me of summer. I am making a summer mix that will include Malibu by Hole, Brown Eyed Girl by Van Morrison...I dunno why but they just remind me of summer!

Movies, not so much. That never really changes. I guess maybe horror films during the summer more. :]
